Just so you know, Shadow Swallow will sit in an infantile stage until I figure out what the hell is going on with my computer. Hopefully this won't take forever... and if it takes more than a week I'll change it from a different machine. (I would do so now, but I prefer not to have my files scattered about on three different machines.)

Here's the first informational sort of post - let me know if there's some else you want. ^_^

Hm. I probably don't need this anymore, because I got a lot of positive responses... however I do really want to use this as a sounding board for all of my ideas concerning the dunans, so I'm going to reopen it as such.

basically they're the "horse" animal of Ahn'Durell (the world the Ukuures and Fedras are based in) and are four limbed, but not quadrupedal. stockier versions are used as draft animals, while the slimmer ones are racers. there's also an aquatic species of dunan, though i've yet to draw any non-suck-tastic pictures of them. the aquatic dunans are really better termed amphibious, because they can both breathe air and have gills. land dunans come in long and short fur, usually with equine-esque or feline-esque coat patterns.

there's already a little bit of information on dunans up on the main site, though i plan to add more eventually. basically the way dunan adoptions would work would be like a breeding stable, on a first come first choice basis. for those of you who remember the runner stables some weyrs used to have, it's sort of like that. they'll have stats and everything. there'll also eventually be races, where the winners are determined by stats, effort put into writing for / roleplaying the dunans and their owners, and a few other factors. there'll also be shows, like equestrian dressage shows, where again roleplaying and stats will hold sway. winners of races/shows will likely birth larger litters with better stats as results, plus lovely little ribbons/prizes to show in their webpages.

Questions as are been askeded (paraphrased, mind):

~Do they fly, or run?
~~~They run. Their wings are too small to fly with, and they don't have the upper body strength required to fly.

~Are they breedable with other bipeds?
~~~Yes, provided the differences in body structure aren't too drastic.

~Do they have live births, or lay eggs?
~~~Live births, normally one or two kits at a time with the occasional three or even four from tamed dunans only.

~Are they breeding-stable only or do normal people have them?
~~~Dunans are really fairly common animals; it's like pre-car horses almost. if you don't have one, your neighbor likely does, except in the bigger cities where there wouldn't be room to keep them individually. Some people keep them exclusively for racing or showing, some use them as work animals, and most everyone rides or uses lightweight traps to get around. Cities usually have a central stable that can act as a taxi service, almost.

I am planning on having him sold/stolen/what have you once I create a character who will use him. It doesn't seem right to just have him sitting on a page and not used in a story. But I will let you know when he changes ownership, that okay? ^^;
