Fighting dragons! Rar!

Post by hksherra »

Ok... So I've been playing around with a new dragon species lately, which I've named the Eakishi.

They started out just as an environmental thingamajig for one of the sci-fi races I'm working on for the tournament that may or may not ever happen... but now I'm kinda liking them...

Here one is!

Image

And then the image below shows more clearly their anatomy and suchness:

Image

Their wings are extensions of ribs, pretty much, which creates that shape. The thingies on their necks are actually breathing tubes... cover 'em and the dragon chokes! They have sharp long hooves that make good weapons but are bad for walking... and their tails are rudder-ish so that they don't crash and die...

Anyways, naturally they are slightly telekinetic, mostly used for flying on their windy homeworld, but through some bioengeneering... they are mightier!

They are now intelligent... ish. They range from animal-intelligence to full sentience, depending on the level of engeneering they've received. They have a predatory nature that doesn't quite fade away, though...

They wouldn't naturally "bond" unless they were synthed with bonding dragons, but if raised from an egg they would become devoted to their owner and serve them loyally in some sort of friend/companionship.

They have been bioengeneered mostly for use in fighting rings and it is a popular sport for the Waizu (the race that arose off of the same planet as 'em).

Now... um... after all that babble...

Would anyone be interested in adopting Eakishi?

I'm thinking that they could be "pets", if anyone wants a large flying cranky thing...

They could go out to "candidates", in that a candidate would raise and train the Eakishi and hopefully befriend it.

They could be bought and trained for use in fighting rings... which I'd make up rules/prizes/breeding for if folks were interested....

Heck... I'd even get my good friends the scientists to synth some hybrids up if folks want 'em to traditionally bond...

XD Silvy has expressed interest in 'em, so they're gonna appear in one form or another...

Would anyone be interested in doing any of the mentioned stuffs with 'em? I'm figuring that ones with differing levels of intelligence will be out there, so they can be anything from pet to lifemate...

They'd fit in (at least in theory for their purpose) on Zekira so yeah!

I'd definitely be interested. Tris'Hath could always use more fighters.

Mystic... just as a note... these guys wouldn't feel morally obligated to help out in a fight or anything... They could get attached to a person and they'd fight who that person told 'em too... XD But if they saw a granny getting eaten by a hydra they'd probably just cock their head and go "hm."

*giggles* Unless you bought gene-modified "nice" ones... That would be kinda amusing... ^^

One question: If they breathe through their necks, what're those nostrils for?

@ everyone: Whoo hoo! Looks like there is some interest... so I'll try to make up a batch of 'em soon!

@ Dray: XD The nice genes really would cost more money, though! Mwa ha ha ha ha!

@ Mystic: The nostrils aren't actually paired up with the respiration system, they're only for smell! O_O Sharks do it too... so I'm not just making stuff up...

And the breathing tubes were inspired by bugs... don't crickets breathe through their legs? Fun fun!

Gosh darned it... I totally want to work on these guys, instead I have to write essays... -_-

Oooh - actually those neck-nostrils are quite clever. I was just thinking, they don't all have to be taking air in or out at once, they could do it in a sequence, therefore 'never running out of air'. Or, perhaps, filtering or allowing for submersion (in sea-bound ones). The effects are really neat, if you give them the ability to breathe or supply themselves with oxygen constantly. Though I imagine the other end of those being more like gills than lungs.

..... and I'd hope they would filter the air "out" as well, because if they were merely gill-entrances the exit would make for an interesting ... extra flap... behind em... :D

Mwa ha ha ha! That is the idea!

They can breathe out through them too, and it actually makes a pretty piping sound when they want to. ^^ That is how the Waizu (resident sentient race of their homeworld) communicate... fluting! Hee hee! I figure that they also have vocal chords too, though, so they can talk regularly... but it isn't as pretty!

Also, since it is a naturally windy world and these dudes fly so much, the air pipes make it less effort to breathe, since they can just leave them open when they're doing a lot of work and the air can just get on down in there...

they'd probably be really good at distance-flying then, because their muscles wouldn't ever have to work anaerobically - there'd always be a good supply of oxygen so they wouldn't cramp very fast.

And that is exactly why they can have funny hooves and don't have to walk that often! >D

These guys are so nifty! *cuddles the Eakishi and gets bitten*
