Kirins Like Water - WIP

Post by Skysong »

I was listening to a song from VGMixes where one of the lines in beginning goes, "..slamming back Kirins like water." They were talking about the beer, of course, but some reason I got the image of a Kirin splashing around in the water.

And so I drew it! Working on coloring now.. please let me know what you think. Water's hard to do, I referenced mine from a photo I took in Hawaii o_o

More realistic than any water *I've* tried ^^ Excellent flowiness. I particularly like the detail texturing on the kirin's back, though.

I dunno if you can change things, but the open mouth looks a little funny... it doesn't open at the jaw-hinge, it's opening, like, halfway down the jaw... just a dinky nitpick. The perspective on the nose is way cool, though. I hate drawing noses 3/4 perspective, but you did a great job ^^

That's really pretty! Water is really hard, but that looks nice. I can't wait to see it colored!

@Xalia - Thanks! I'm definitely not looking forward to coloring the water XD;

*boing!* Wee! A Kirin! *pouncesnuggles it* It's so cute, Skysong! And good job on the water *grin* hope you can manage to get it colored.

*shifty eyes, resumes snuggling the Kirin, starts dragging it off* ... So I'm a bit Kirin-obsessed lately... ever since I was nicknamed Kirin by my friends, and then found a family-group of pretty Kirin in a shop in New Jersey and got all three. *purr, drag!*

@StarFyre - Heh, thanks ^_^; And those Kirin wouldn't happen to be Windstone sculptures, would they? I know there's a mom, dad, and baby Windstone Kirin.. they also make unicorns and dragons and such?

I do believe they are. *checks* .. ^^ Yep. I bought one of the dragons, too, cost me $109 just for the dragon, but it was worth it!

Kirin are actually oriental unicorns. I remember reading up a bit on them after seeing the Kirin family in the Windstone booklet. :P I've got two of the dragons from that collection. My goal is to get all of them.

R and L are often confused in most Asiatic languages (well, chinese and japanese habitually). What we normally call a Kirin is pronounced more like kee-lin. Same creature unless there's some new thing out there I haven't seen before. :)

Ah, okay. Thanks for clearing that up... I was a bit confused. All the books I've ever read have said ki-lin, soo....

XD random piece of information.

in korean, it's pronounced gee-rlin, the rl making that unique sound most english people have trouble pronouncing.

thats why I love languages. It's so twisted.
