Octopus Dragon?

So, during the time I had off work this week for... various reasons, I did a fair bit of doodling on some nice sketch paper (rather than the stuff I pull out of the printer), and I created this kind of octopus dragon. And it looked really nice on paper, so I inked it. Normally I don't bother with ink, since my scanner's good enough to pick up pencil lines, but when I scanned in this inked octopus, I actually got nice lines that only took me a few minutes to clean up, rather than three hours. So those pens were a worthwhile purchase, I guess.

Anyway, I coloured and shaded, and the finished product is this:

It looks sorta a bit freaky, really, but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I've tentatively named him Ssarishan. I don't quite know what I'm going to do with him yet.

Cthulhu? *grins* That was my thought too; my second thought was "cuttlefish," which was probably also something about the shape of the head. And, you know, color-changing cuttlefish dragons would be pretty cool.

This guy's awesome, Shiolar - completely unique. I love the shading, too, especially on his tentacles.

Having a whole lot of difficulty creating something that looks good but isn't too ridiculously huge. The only thing I've coloured that looked even halfway decent was:

I'm not too happy with it, and I had to severely compromise on the image quality so I could upload it... Photobucket's 250k limit annoys me...

Wow, that's SO cool. I love cuttlefish/octopod creatures. I want one.

The investment of inking time and the right equipment is always worthwhile. Pencils getting cleaned up are so hard. I rarely bother coloring uninked pictures for that reason, it's too difficult to make it look nice. Outlines = very easy.

Is the Swim still open for candidates, then? I'll try send one in... or maybe two, seeing as I've coloured two...

And maybe in the future I shall adopt these out, maybe. Or just reserve them for special occasions/birthdays/etc.

The main Mirus dragon images were scanned from pencil only, but it took me a very long time to get them anywhere near good enough to colour, and far more pixel by pixel work than I really wanted. Ink most definitely rocks.

STFU!!! I'm trying!

As it stands I still don't have more than a quarter of them even scanned. Of those I do have most colored, they are the character clutch versions.

I know a good number of the links on the candidate page aren't working though, and I think a couple people are just never going to come back for them. Should i scrub the current bunch unless they're up to date link wise? Or if anyone has a current link for those that lead nowhere?

O_o'' Perhaps put a call out that candidates are due at some point, and that you'll be scrubbing non-working links after a certain time?
