Appearance: |
Zafein has ash-black skin and white hair, much like his progenitors, but he isn't a pure-blooded drow. Rather, he's the offspring of ageless generations of slaves kept by a species of genie known as the Dao, working in the courts of the Sevenfold Maze of the elemental plane of Earth. He is heavily scarred-- both ritually marked, and from acts of violence, and he holds himself with barely suppressed anxiety regardless of whether he is in any danger.
Zafein takes pains to dress nicely now that he lives at the Nidus. When he was living with the Dao he was not treated well, and it's still new to be able to possess things of his own. He doesn't quite trust it yet. Zafein prefers to wear long-sleeved and legged clothing to cover the marks on his body. He can't cover his face, though he's investigating what cyborware can do to modify his scars.

Personality: |
Zafein is one of several rescuees from the Sevenfold Maze that Asherun was able to guide to safety, even though their exit into the extensive tunnel system under Nidus Descendi left everyone bemused. He's distrustful naturally, so he has had trouble integrating with the people there-- and the dragons are frightening in their mass and their ability to soar through open skies.
Still, there is something compelling about the idea of having a bonded partner who is large enough to protect him, and who is graceful and beautiful, as his own race was described as being. He started investigating the idea of becoming a novo on his own, once he'd snuck around the entirety of the explored Nidus, and then into some of the caves beyond. He's jumpy, and hasn't made a lot of friends... but he knows how to not incur the wrath of others, and folks at the Nidus have been surprisingly level-headed. Though he's spent most of his life without the ability to exercise his will, he is quickly learning to become independent, and he thirsts for something greater than bare survival.
