Ontaziona is morally ambiguous, prefering to follow opportunity over any sense of fairness or moral code. She's fast, talks slick, and can often get people to do what she wants without them realizing they're doing it. When she was young, she served with a group of crossbreed mages, or ampilae on her home planet of Avengaea. She worked her way through the system, figuring out how to get other mages to do what she wanted, alongside co-conspirators Frada Meridia (her caretaker) and Zedian Eyele (her peer) before they were caught using illegal fertility drugs on various offworld Avengaean clutches in order to increase the number of crossbreed Asandae in the Nexus.
They were found guilty, and exiled from Avengaea. Their research was seized and their social connections were shattered. Ontaziona began building her work up from scratch at Nidus Corona, since the United Nidusi were frontier colonies with few rules and little opinion on Avengaeans one way or the other. For many years, she worked behind the scenes to try to work more magic into asandus clutches. The purpose of all of this was the belief that crossbreeds produce stronger magical fields, can do more unexpected work with magic. The entire reason she joined the ampilae to begin with was that average Avengaeans treated crossbreeds and hybrids with some distrust or even disdain.
While she lived at Nidus Corona for many years, even having another clutch of her own, eventually she found her hands tied once again-- by humans, of all creatures, who felt that growth efforts needed to be carefully curated to balance with the ability of the Nidus to produce food. Ontaziona packed her bags and grumped all the way to Nidus Silva-- a place where humans are not necessarily unwelcome, but are certainly not going to call the shots.
Lucky she did, too, as Nidus Corona disappeared into the Drift soon after. The Drift, a non-place that seems to actively be affecting portions of the Nexus at large, sweeps into an area and renders the locale unable to interface with the rest of the Nexus. Those places coming out the other side of the drift have found themselves displaced years or even decades out of sync with the Nexus at large, and a rare few have even found themselves physically transported to unfamiliar locations. Having avoided this, Ontaziona's grumblingly begun work nearly from scratch a third time to study how magic in cross-breeds (and even powerful halfbreeds) works with Avengaean magic.
