Small and feline in both build and appearance, Chongo is immediately set apart from other mequis by his feathered wings: a mutant trait inherited from his also-winged parents. His wings are dark red with the outermost row of flight feathers being brighter red, the shades matching the alternating tabby striping of his tail. His body-fur is mostly black, though he has red ears, red spots along his back, and a white mask on his face. The short mane that crests his head and neck is a smoky grey. Also grey are his three hooves. Three, for his front left foot is a paw.

With a silently solitary father and a gleefully gregarious mother, Chongo has predictably turned out somewhere in the middle and is rather an ordinary little fellow because of it. He is the type who is contented to be alone and doesn't make a lot of noise, happy to entertain himself with whatever means are at paw (or hoof), and never seems to grow bored or impatient. When he's with friends he knows well, however, he brightens up and shows a side that is lively and eager for fun, but is not so energetic as to be considered a spaz. Unlike his mother, he is happier being a follower than a leader and never feels the desire to be the center of attention.
