Liune is a world aware of the Nexus, though not one that has native dragons of its own. It is a world where magic and wealth are closely tied, leaving extreme divisions between the rich and the poor. It is the nature of this world's poor inhabitants to hope that their child will be born with magical talents so that they may rise out of a life of poverty. One does not have to have magic to rise out of poverty, but the magical are rarely poor.

Only the rich and magical tend to have much to do with visiting other worlds of the Nexus. To the poor and the common folk, the Nexus is a fantastical concept, known yet irrelevant to their day-to-day lives.

Liune itself is inhabited only by humans, who come in a wider rainbow of colors than the peoples of Earth. They speak of their material plane of existence as the Realm, paralleled by another dimension called the Alter-Realm, which is home to magical entities known as bodhi. These immortal creatures are similar to the angels, demons, and elementals of other worlds.

The Alter-Realm is also believed to be home to the Liunian pantheon of gods, who are numerous and exist in counter-acting pairs, such as Cav the Benefactor (God of goodness) opposing and being opposed by Shob the Tyrant (God of evil).
