Once upon a Desktop, there were creatures called Oddballz. They were lovingly cared for by an entity they knew only as the Hand, and never suffered from a lack of Toyz or a want of delicious Liqui-Food and Grubz to eat. Sometimes they would misbehave and have to be punished with a bolt of snow from the Sno-Blaster, and sometimes if they were really bad they'd get the Seismo-Ball dropped on them, but for the most part they were well-behaved and were fondly pampered in turn.

In return for the Liqui-Food they were fed and the Playpen they were given to live in, the Oddballz would entertain the Hand with tricks they could do. The Oddballz were special creatures, and could do tricks far above and beyond anything a mere dog or cat could do, and they would always do what they could to keep the Hand surprised.

Ash the Skorch would breathe thunderous gouts of fire on command, and do a wonderful imitation of his hero, Godzilla. Zest the Dynaroo would sprout a propeller-hat and fly around the Playpen. Static the Zott was adept at arcing little bolts of electricity between his antennae, and sometimes would even blink Zott Code for the Hand. Every Oddballz had dozens of tricks up their sleeves, and were happy to perform them when it meant they'd get a Grubz of their favorite flavor in return.

Then, one day, as the young Oddballz played with their Toyz and stalked the delicious Grubz, the Hand let them out of their Playpen! Their eyes flew open in surprise as they were released onto the fascinating realm called the Desktop, and Mojo the Modvark even lost his, and had to chase his squeaking eyes all over the Screen before he could really see what had happened.

When Mojo had caught his eyes and put them back where they belonged, the six Oddballs looked eagerly around the new Windows that had opened up to them. One in particular caught their fancy, as they watched the Hand spend lots of time there and play with other creatures that reminded them all of Ash, but bigger and far more colorful!

The Oddballz realized they had been released to a place far grander and more complicated than their old Playpen had ever been, and as one, all agreed that a life of just performing tricks and eating Grubz would never be the same again.

And so, leaving behind their Oddballz friends who hadn't been released to the Desktop, the now-free Oddballz gathered their courage and went forth, to explore these new places to the fullest.
