Seeing as grues are creatures that live in total darkness and hold an extreme fear of the light, no one can really say what one looks like. The only thing known is that they are very large, have glowing eyes, fearsome claws, and a great many sharp, vicious teeth. They are meat-eaters with insatiable appetites, their favorite foods being adventurers and enchanters. With an uncontrollable tendency to gurgle and slaver, one can often hear a grue coming, and one had best procure a light source before it arrives or else they will certainly be eaten! (And despite technically living in underground lairs, grues can get anywhere where there is no light: poor souls have been known to be devoured right out of their beds if there is no nightlight on.)

Grues are called the most evil-tempered of all creatures in the underground empire of Zork, and our grue certainly lives up to the reputation. She has devoured a great many hapless adventurers in her time, and can boast that no enchanter has ever been able to escape her (unless they happen to have a light spell, of course). As sour-tempered as any good grue ought to be, it's no surprise she's attracted a great many mates and borne a great many little grues throughout her life. She likes to "eat first and ask questions later", which means she doesn't do a lot of question-asking, but definitely gets a whole lot of eating!
