Description: Once scrawny and malnourished from his harsh orphan life, Reketet may still be gawky as juveniles tend to be, but now there's plenty of meat on his bones and his scruffy fur is always groomed and fairly clean. As a chyrith, he looks somewhat like a canine with a few draconic features mixed in. His pelt is mostly white, though a wide line of grey swathes his spine from the back of his head to halfway down his long tail, where the grey expands to color the entire last half of it. All four of his paws are grey, with his toes black, like his tail tuft. His shoulders and thighs are each marked with six tapering black stripes, and his back is marked with five of the same. Grey, sawtoothed marks sweep down his cheeks from his eyes, which are usually half-hid under the shaggy mess of his short, white hair. His ears are black, and each bears a single silver earring: gifts from his adoptive father. Lord Cateiran couldn't sire-pierce the youth, as much as he might've wanted to, so Reketet instead got a simple pair of silver rings. While they might not be real sire piercings, as far as Reketet cares, they're as genuine as they need to be.

All chyriths have wings, though these extra limbs are usually retracted inside the body when not in use. Reketet's wings, rarely unveiled since he doesn't know how to fly, are feathered and birdlike, white with black-tipped grey flight feathers.

Reketet is also a shapeshifter, as all chyriths are, but the only other form he has learned to take is that of a human--after all, the blind can't have visual examples to go off of, and telepathic imagery can only explain so much. His human form is that of a little human boy, but all his coloration holds over from his natural shape: his skin is white, with the exact same markings in the exact same places. He also retains a shorter version of his tail, since he feels weird without it, and it also helps his balance. The clothing he assumes is nothing more than a white tank top and white shorts, and instead of shoes, his bare feet retain the footpads of his natural form.

Personality: Though once timid and easily startled, Reketet has flourished under the care of his new family, and developed into a much happier youth. He's still quiet, but in a reserved rather than a nervous way, and he is not afraid to speak with his voice anymore. He enjoys playing in the open space outside his father's den, whether by himself or with the other family cubs--when they forget to be afraid of him, anyhow. His traumatic past amazingly did not scar him as one would expect, for he is incredibly affectionate and loves to touch and be touched (cuddling up into the warm spot behind a reclined grown-up's foreleg is definitely his favorite display of affection). For all that he is blind, he is also incredibly perceptive with his other senses, and is a powerful empath as well, capable both of picking up others' emotions, and broadcasting his own.
Biography: The chyriths are only one of the many sentient races of Chytonia, being the result of a 9,500-year-old madwoman's crossbreeding experiment, but they have long been settled into a niche of being one of the planet's dominant lifeforms. They are a race of magically powerful shapeshifters, with almost two-dozen breeds and no two alike. Reketet himself had the misfortune of being born a Spirit: a hybrid of the breeds called Dream and Astral. It had long ago been prophesied that it would be one of the Spirit breed who would release the chyrith's insane creator, Suri, from the mountain prison where she was guarded and kept, and the prophecy said that after Suri was freed, she would then destroy every single one of the species she had created.

As a result, the Spirits are a fiercely persecuted breed, with most of their number slaughtered at their unfortunate births, and the survivors attacked on sight. Reketet himself had been born to a psychotic Astral mother who had borne him solely in hopes that he would be the one to unleash the mad Suri, and he lived in terror of the prediction for most of his young life--no matter how insane his mother had been, blind Reketet had been timid and shy, and the last thing he was interested in was destroying the world. His mother's insanity blinded her to her child's gentleness, however, and for three chyrith cycles he was raised in her loving but twisted ministration.

Then his mother was slaughtered when her Astral kin finally learned she'd birthed a Spirit and hunted out her hidden den, and though a spell had whisked young Reketet to safety, he'd then had to struggle to survive without his mother's dubious protection. If it hadn't been for the fact that, as a Spirit, he attracted the attentions of such incorporeal beings, he surely would have died. For six long chyrith cycles--over 100 human years--Reketet struggled to live with no one but the dead for guidance and companionship. His only bit of luck was the fact that his mother's spirit never found him, for though he had felt some measure of child's love for her, he'd never liked her, and did not miss her long.

Then, one cold winter afternoon, Reketet was discovered by an aged chyrith named Cateiran, who was Lord of the breed known as Mystic. Though he had been terrified of the old chyrith at first, as he feared all creatures he thought would kill him simply because of the prophecy attached to his breed, Cateiran's gentleness eventually won over the love-starved and lonely cub, and on that very same day, the Lord adopted young Reketet as his own. Having been gifted with a vision of the Spirit who would be the one to wake Suri, Cateiran knew that Reketet was not the destined one, and convinced his family that there was nothing to fear from the innocent youth.

Centuries-old prejudices die hard, however, and though the closest members of his adopted family give Reketet all the affection he could have ever hoped for, he has not won everyone over. He has suffered attacks, both verbal and physical, from bigoted chyriths from the very day word spread that Lord Cateiran had taken a Spirit into his care, and though his adopted family has done a peerless job of protecting him, no child should have to fear for his life when he simply goes outside to play.

The only friend Reketet has outside of Cateiran's family is Singer, another Spirit chyrith who also happens to be the Lord of the breed. Though Reketet feared Singer at first, for he feared his own breed just as much as the rest, he was soon reassured that there was no reason to fear the older Spirit, and eventually acquired Singer as a friend and mentor. Ten years of association saw Singer earn the title of "uncle", but the fact remains that Reketet is terribly lonely for a friend who doesn't fear, even subconsciously, the terrible prophecy attached to his breed.
