Considering that and the turning away a sort of dismissal, this particular downily-furred femme would indeed approach Samber, quelling the desire to perhaps tug a sleeve for attention.

"Uhm, pardon me..." she'd begin, hoping to garner the elder one's attention.

Pen glanced at the dragonett, and then turned back to the boy and brushed herself off.

"Watch the zeroG pocket and the wires!" she shouted. The very last thing she needed was for Samber to step on the wires and get her foot caught, and then she'd tilt forward, out of the zeroG, and sort of hover, half in, half out, and it would be a big mess and the wires would get all messed up again, and it might even hurt the other coils.

Pen, she told herself, you have far to active an imagination for your own good.

"And yes, green is good. Catch my pliers when the gravity turns back on, would you? Don't let them get in the wireing." Even though she was trying to look serious, she couldn't help but leap over the strip where the coils were out, sailing gracefully across four panels to reach the control board for the power.

"Ready? ...did that work?"

There would still be a puddle of zeroG, but that couldn't be helped. It would hopefully smooth out a little, but nothing ever worked neatly with a mossing part.

OOC-
Just for the sake of reference, here's a quick sketch and scan of Poppet in formal wear. Dunno why she looks so serious though O_o;

He was surprised.

"What? You mean... a hatching? Are we...?" His unfinished question turned all eyes on him, and he forced the last word out with a gasp of breath, "...candidates?"

It sparked a nod from Samber, and the wolf-shifter gulped as he drew a small circle in the sand with his foot. Candidates. He thought about this for a moment, looking with confused eyes to the bronze dragon and the hatchling.

He then allowed a grin to curl the ends of his pale lips.

"I'm Tashi," he introduced himself to no one in particular. "Tashi Ashenblaze."

The one known as Kal nodded, welcoming Tashi into their 'circle' as another one from the group introduced themself...

(( Say hi to Tashi, everybody! :D ))

Zack slapped her hand down on her beeper, brushing a few strands of silvery-blue hair out of her eyes. Wait. Dragonets, eggs, candidates? There was a name, right, a name... Tashi! The exotic one. Right. Introductions, right, names.

"I'm Zackery Rourke O'Learn di Tulva." She stuck her hand out to Tashi, by merit of not knowing what else to do. She was currently trying to figure out whether or not the one hatchling was going to attempt a Godzilla and enforce a mass hatching and chasedown through the coridoors and through the pool of zeroG the engineer had managed to address. "Nice to meet you, all of you." She flashed a smile, baring particularly long eyeteeth.

Her tail, a good cross of feline and canine phenotypes, ticked back and forth, the same silvery-blue color as her hair. Ice-blue eyes focused on Tashi's face.

"Hi," he replied, a little startled. His own canine tail waved behind him as he blinked his violet and ice-coloured eyes, looking into hers for a moment; then he promptly realized it wasn't polite to stare. He looked away quickly.

"A wolf, right?" she said, and at his confused face, she continued. "Wolf-anthro."

"Wolf-shifter," he corrected her after shaking her hand. Thus, he demonstrated his shapeshifting powers to the onlookers. He left himself in his lupine form, however, when he finished. He felt more comfortable that way. "I'm from Iolana - a dragonry called Starburst, actually."

He was growing more comfortable around these people by the minute. He decided to introduce his homeworld further, for lack of anything else to say. "I'm not sure if any of you have heard of it..."

"Starburst," Kal repeated with a sage nod, not even blinking when Tashi demonstrated his shifting prowess.

And he wasn't about to swap base or secondary forms either.

"Good place, Starburst. I went along to escort the sponsors from the Spring Frenzy back. I'm from Brynmor, myself." He would have offered a hand, but Tashi didn't really have one at the moment, and Zack hadn't bothered to offer hers, so he just kept his arms crossed, tucked harmlessly against his side. "And yeah, I guess you could say the lot of us are bonders, or candidates, or whatever you want to call us," he added, in response to the earlier, almost astonished question.

"If these little guys even chose to bond, that is," he mused, an afterthought spoken aloud. After all, not all the hatchlings on Alskyr bonded, and while Fitelath was Pernese, the mother, he was quite sure, wasn't from the regular bonding stock.

Which left them....well.....he didn't really know.

"Starburst." Zack let the flavor of the word settle on her tongue. "I'm afraid I haven't read up much on Starburst, nor Brynmor. Sound impressive."

She glanced over at the one hatchling, as well as the remaining, unhatched, eggs. "Hmm. Less like Godzilla than I thought it was." In fact, the one hatchling looked comatose for all his movement.

With a small roll of her shoulders, Zack stuck her hand out to Kal. "I'm afraid you're unfortunate enough to be aquainted with me before I am with you." She smiled. "And since we're all here as either an attempt to see Old World breeding get New Age on ourselves or to prove that once done, twice replicated works universally, I may as well get to know you all. Irregardless of our birthing friend's potential prospects on ourselves."

"Brynmor?" Tashi pondered this. "I've heard of it. We have dragons that came from Brynmor. I suppose they were taken in by the dragonry, because they're all unbonded."

Tashi did hope that the hatchlings chose to bond. He'd taken a liking to the little one that had hatched. Hopefully they took after their Old World-bred father in behaviour, not personality. He'd never say it, but he hoped his own bond wouldn't turn out to be as egotistical as some bronzes.

He was still having trouble comprehending the newly-arisen fact that he was an unexpected bonder, in the middle of space, conversing with beings just as confused as he was. It seemed to have fallen together by fate, but he figured that was the reason that the Searchriders had sent him "exploring".

Turning to Zack, he inquired, "What about you - where do you come from?"

*Ealen grabbed the piers, then looked at the zeroG pocket's area. "How do we find out? " He glanced up as the dragon's egg exploded, then frowned and looked down again.
"Whatever..I'm not going after it."

Kal reached out and lightly grasped the proferred hand, which was swallowed in his long-fingered, square-palmed paw. "I'm Kal," he said softly, with another half-smile he reserved just for the ladies. "And while I doubt Godzilla would work for the hatchlings just yet," he dropped his voice to an intimate whisper, "I have no doubt it would suit their sire just fine."

Letting go of the hand, his eyebrows bobbed up and down mischeviously before he crossed his arms again and leaned happily against the wall.

Though he did continue to listen when Tashi turned and asked Zack about her own origins.

As she went for the moment unanswered, Poppet would make her way into the hatching bay so as to get a better look, stumbling faintly after passing through that zero-g pocket.

"Whoa..." she muttered, either arm flaring outward to assist in catching her balance. Entertainingly enough, her tail flared out as well, as this was it's primary use. With all that, she'd manage to pull herself upright again, ears pinning in a sheepish fashion. Well... that was embarrassing.

Crystal gaze will shift between the two adult dragons at this point, and then lower to the still unmoving hatchling. "May I... come closer?" she'll finally ask, and for lack of a better idea would drop into a curtsey respectfully towards the bronze and clutch-mother. Who better to ask than the dragons themselves? Kal had after all said that they understood....

Zack snorted in amusement, fighting back a smile. "Well," she said, arching one eyebrow, "As long as Daddy Bronze-legs doesn't have a liking for warm and fuzzies." She caught Poppet's 'trip' through the zeroG, a look of amused concern flashing over her features. "Hey, you alright there?" she called out, waving.

She answered Tashi's question at last. "I'm spaceborn, myself. Never been terran side of anything, sadly." Her distant, impish half-grin spoke otherwise as to her feelings on being a child of the stars. "Then again I guess you can't miss what you've never had." She was looking intently at the Bronze dragon. Like a father.

"Hey," Zack added, nodding her head toward Poppet, "Think she's safe near that one?"

Hello. Hello? HELLO? Can anyone hear me?

Apparently no one could. Maybe if he focused...

YOU! Hey! You!

The object of his attention twitched around to face him.

Oh! That's funny. He considered it. It's attatched to the back of me! It's moving back and forth... I wonder what it's called. I think... I think... I think I'll call it a... snail! No, wait, tail! Yes, taaaaail. And this stuff I'm sitting on, that needs a name, too. Something big and round... roooound... grooooun... ground! Yes, that's it! I'll call it... ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me.

--

Samber? Fitelath sounded nervous. Is this... normal?

"Wha--" She looked. "No. No, it's not... Hey! You!" She poked the nearest mammal.

"Me?" The wolfboy... Tashi... jumped a bit, startled. "What?"

"How would y'like to bond that dragonet?" Not giving him time to respond, she shoved her bowl of soup at him--she'd had time to stop at the galley after all, but not enough to actually at the stuff, and the meaty stew was now only lukewarm--gripped his shoulders, and propelled him in the direction of the hatchling.

Sometimes you had to let nature take its course, but other times you just had to handle things yourself.

Mewling alarm, Poppet jumped back so as to move out of the way of the propelled wolf-morph... her own tail lashing surprise. Glancing to the one who pushed in the first place, the feline began to consider. Should she really be so bold? What better way to measure success than to watch the first and see if the bond was managed?

She'd get the hang of this yet!

"As safe as any of us are, I suppose," Kal muttered to Zack, shrugging as he watched Poppet attempted to move closer to the eggs.

And Fitelath.

Who was suddenly watched the hatchling with a, well, concerned tilt to his huge, flat bronze head [ok, so it wasn't really flat, but it made Kal feel better to think that].

"Whadda you think-" he began, right when Samber turned on them, poking Tashi.

On instinct, he straightened, moving away from the pointing finger and deeper into the shadows - or what shadows there were. He may have been a lot bigger than anyone there at the moment, but he could move when he needed to.

"I guess this thing is getting under way, then," he grumbled, shrugging sheepishly at Zack and settling more firmly against the wall.

Wishing he could just as easily sink into it and fade from the upcoming disaster that might be his bonding.

So, what do you call a six foot tall puffball with huge paws, no discernable face beneath a mop of red fur, and holding a notepad in his? her?... it's!? hands? Well, you could call it a puffball, but it would turn its head in your direction and might possibly be glaring at you. It was rather difficult to tell, actually. It was actually a male, even if that was pretty much impossible to tell from its physical appearance. It was also a reporter.

And this place had seemed like a good story, so he'd just upped and left the office, finding a ride on a freighter bringing supplies to the station and arriving shortly before the beginning of the hatching. What good fortune. He'd never seen a hatching before, despite having travelled through several different worlds, and so this was as much a new experience for him as it was information-gathering about an odd clutch hosted on board a space station.

He was taking notes, and even illustrating with a few sketches, to assist in the typing up of the report that would have to come later. He watched the Candidates from a short distance away, deciding not to get involved just yet. For the moment, he was observing, and he would start questioning them later. Until such a point as they became annoyed with him and tried to kill him.

That seemed to happen to him a fair bit, since he was by nature far too nosy and inquisitive. He didn't really have any concept of the fact that some things were supposed to remain private, and that, for some reason that he simply couldn't comprehend, annoyed other people. To the point where they kept trying to shoot him, or hit him over the head, or occasionally simply try to flush him out of the nearest airlock, when one was available.

It was a good thing, on the whole, that he was good at surviving. It had become something of a speciality, staying alive. It was up there with having a good nose for finding interesting stories, and was about equal to his ability to land himself in trouble.

He turned his attention away from the Candidates who had gathered, and instead focused on the father of the clutch and the single dragon that had hatched. He made notes and observations on the way that both behaved; the way Fitelath hovered near the eggs, obviously worried, but also most clearly very proud of his offspring; the way the fiery bronze hatchling sat so smugly amongst the eggs, apparently not interested in going to bond one of the Candidates. And he observed, making copious notes, as this young hatchling looked at his tail; of course, the reporter couldn't know what was going through the bronze's mind, but to his eyes, it seemed like a rather odd hatchling.

And then Samber pushed a wolf-thing in the direction of the hatchling; the young reporter wasn't entirely sure that was how hatchings were supposed to go, from the stories that he'd heard. But then, stories and rumours could easily be wrong, and that was why he was here. He had to record the truth, and make sure that everybody else heard and read it. Kiermessyt believed whole-heartedly in the truth.

Tashi was startled, and almost fell into the bowl of stew. He quickly set down the bowl beside the little dragonet, and looked nervously back at Samber and the others. They all glanced between each other.

That helps, he thought to himself as he peered at the fiery-coloured dragonet. The same one he'd seen before...

He felt something click, and he looked at the dragonet again - as a bond. Now, the little one was even more wonderful than it had been before. It looked at him with adorably liquid eyes.

He'd... bonded?

Zack watched Kal's melding with the shadows with Samber's prodding of Tashi forward with a raised eyebrow and nothing else. Of course, she also watched as the hatchling, who oddle enough reminded her of a whale randomly brought into existence mid-atmosphere (an odd image since she'd never been introduced to natural atmospheres, being a hardcore spacer all her life) while falling to his eventual doom.

She doubted (read: hoped and prayed) it was not indicative of Tashi and his bond-apparent's future together. Then again, she was also eyeing the hatchling for any over signs of hunger. Hell(sans o), it wasn't her bond - nor her species, but that was far from uncommon - and who knew what a spaceswimming hybrid would love to try for a first meal. Tender spacers might be just the ticket menu on the item, even if Zack had severe doubts anything of the sort would go down.

Which gave her mixed feelings. All in all, she'd actually liked the mini-Godzilla babies.

Kal shot Zack an uncertain look, having no idea what it was she just said. He'd noted the raised eyebrow when he tried to meld in with the shadows and the wall, and actually, his hair and skin had taken on a more gray appearance, to allow him to blur a little more, but it was winter on Alskyr - gray was the best it was going to get, and it was no where near dark enough.

"At least this first one looks healthy," Kal mused, "and he seems to have taken to the bond naturally enough. Bodes well for the rest," he added with a shrug. "Speaking of which, how many eggs are there?"

"Wasn't the number on record around thirty?" Zack peered out over the eggs, trying to get a good reading but coming up with nothing. "Doesn't mean they'll all hatch, but that's the risk of any birthing." Her smile turned a bit whistful.

Ealen watched the bonding with amused interest, then glanced over at the reporter. He frowned, then sat on the floor, putting the piece of deckplate he still held down in front of him. "This sure is dull. I wonder if..."
He began fiddling with the pliers, lost in his thoughts.

Well, that had certainly been interesting, Kiermessyt reflected as he watched the bonding, taking a couple of notes as he did so. He wasn't entirely sure 'interesting' was the right word for it. He'd figure out something better later on, perhaps. He pushed his pen to a position balanced behind his ear, and it all but disappeared beneath his long reddish hued fur. His notebook disappeared into a small pouch attached to the leather harness wrapped around his chest and shoulders; it was purely functional, bearing several pockets. It wasn't like anything this hairy really needed clothes.

With his hands free, he moved away from his half-concealed location, wandering out through the gathered Candidates. This first one he reached, of course, was the closest one, Ealen, and he settled down to crouch next to the boy. "You seem... bored," he said to Ealen, choosing his tone carefully. The insight of a Candidate into a hatching in progress could only help him in achieving the right impact for the report. And Kiermessyt didn't even consider for a moment that technically none of this was any of his business. He wasn't technically a Candidate here; he was simply being nosy. Not that he'd pass up the opportunity to bond if it was presented to him, of course.

"Yep, that's me." Ealen looked up from examining the pliers. "Who are you?"
He looked up with some confusion as a rancid smell fills the room. A rotting gray dragon, decorated with fish heads, some very old, pranced into the doorway. "'Allo!"
"Oh no, not you!"
"Oh yes, me!" The dragon stalked through the doorway, tripped over the zeroG pocket, and fell on her head. She scrambled to her feet and continued staling towards Ealen.
"Telhan said I could come, so there. "
"Wonderful. This is Chouraku, everyone. She's annoying and she stinks, just to let you know." Ealen rolled his eyes and began unscrewing a bolt on Pen's pliers, muttering.

Kiermessyt couldn't help but wrinkle his nose in disgust as the rotting gray dragon arrived. Fortunately, the hair over his face covered this, although he did consider trying to shove some of said hair up his nostrils. He would have, if he'd thought it would really help. He forced his breathing to slow, and struggled against the gag reflex as the stench of the dragon assailed his delicate sense of smell. He opened his mouth to speak, and gagged again, the sound trailing off into a miserable cough. "How can you stand the smell?" he asked, turning his attention to Ealen as he managed to get the words out of his mouth.

"I'm used to it, I guess. She has a weyrspace next to me, back home. I feel sorry for whatever might try to bond her." Ealen glowered at Chouraku, who smiled innocently and looked up at the bronze dragon, still trying to look adorable.

"How does she manage to live? She doesn't really look alive at all," Kiermessyt remarked, studying the rotting dragon thoughtfully. He'd never seen an undead anything before, and despite the smell, there was a kind of sick fascination. But then, he wasn't really sure that he wanted to know; some things were best left not known to mankind. Or miscellaneous puffball kind either, for that matter. But then, on the other hand, he couldn't help but ask. He needed to know everything, like a kind of drive that carried him through life. He rarely came to regret any knowledge, no matter how disgusting. "Is she here for the hatching too, then?" he asked, adding that question to his first one.

Ealen shrugged. "Well......I'm not really sure how she stays alive. Some kind of magical phenomenon, I think. And she must be here for the hatching, since even Telhan isn't stupid enough to send her as my guard."
