okay, so I was happily working on stuff on the computer and a stupide ad-ware gets onto my computer after clicking on a site. I start scanning like I'm suppose to and then...

The computer shuts off on it's own...weird. it restarts so I start trying to clean up this mess again...it turns off/on on it's own again after i have pccillen delete a bunch of adware. seconds after it reboots a third time it turns off...

I'm calling the computer guys tommarow and if it needs reformating, pray to all the dragon gods in all the worlds that all my information can be saved - not just the web pages, but the photos from our photo shoot. If it can't be saved, well, I'm not trying to think of that happening again because more will be lost this time...

*goes off extreamly pissed and worried*

Start it in safe mode so nothing loads, and start looking through your registry for things. If you have access to a second computer at that time which is on the net, have google running and if you encounter a register entry that you dont' recognize, google it. It'll be immediately apparent if it's something you can delete or leave alone.

I had to scrub a guy's computer here at work which had that kind of problem. It had 47 folders in different locations for virus and ad ware. It's pretty easy to get rid of this crap, but it is time consuming. There's no reason to worry about scrubbing your computer, it's just ad ware.

I brought it into the computer guys today. They think there is something wrong with the memory card that it hits a bad spot and gets upset and reboots. Hopefully it's something simple. If anything, I told them to backup my files (they'll probably call and ask which stuff i need saved...) and reboot it for me. (which I wanted done again as I still think it was upset about when i tried to do it).

Of course, what i really need to worry about is getting the money to fix it if it's over fifty dollars and the gas to go and get it again (they just had to be in a town about 45 mins away!)

Do you mean the systems ram by memory card? If so, and depending on what it'd cost for them to replace it, I could try seeing what I can dig up. (If nothing else than a cheaper place to buy it yourself.) I know I'm still new here, but figured I'd at least make the offer.

I don't know what's going on yet. The place I brought it to is really good and cheep. I'll only owe them $30 at the least for labor. That's good compared to other places! (of course, it's the drive that sucks up the money but it's worth it...they actually try to fix it...) Thanks...but I'll wait...

You know, I can connect my laptop to my PC equipment...*snerk* (Moniter, thanks to a little thing I never used before, speakers, keyboard and mouse! Yeah, I'm in Phsycoville right now...) This is fun. Didn't know I could do it! Ha!! Resolution is blurry but it's as high as it will go...

No worries, it'll still be there if you need it. As for the drive, I can belive it. *Has to drive 45 minutes one way to his classes :/* Hope gas is cheaper by you than it is here. Also at least you can use the good stuff with your laptop, even if its a little blurry. Still has to be worlds better than staring at one of those screens..

Anyway, good luck with that and hope its fixed soon.

I remember I had a worm that did that to my comp. I forget the name of it, but it would pop up a warning about when it would be shutting down my comp. I had to go into safemode and delete it.

Well, good news is - Computer coming home tomarrow (though the $50 in savings that is meant to be for my car insurance in Feb is going to go bye-bye...*curses and hopes for a big tax return in 2006...*

So, what was it? a lose memory card, as far as they know. Stupid thing. Hey, at least nothing was damaged. Perhaps it's time to put those DVD-RWs to use...*sighs* I've just never used RW's before so I really don't know if they're going to do what I need them to...*pouts*

Bringing it in again because the my Virus program is driving me nuts and I can't get rid of the stuff...Won't be anytime soon because I simply don't have the money...(go figure)...Just a heads up.

First, go in and remove hostile stuff from the Registry (see above). Then, disable Norton if you use it. It's THE most useless piece of shit I've ever had on a computer. Just make sure to NEVER RUN INTERNET EXPLORER... Use Firefox. You will not get viruses and adware. The only time you'd be in any much danger is if you open too many unknown emails. NEVER do that, obviously... I know convincing family members who might use the comp would be a problem. But honestly Norton is useless now, only gets in the way. If it's another program you're using I can't help ya lol!

Regedit is your friend. Just be sure to make a save copy (which it should easily be able to do, in one of the command bar areas) before you start. Generally speaking you won't screw much up if you just are careful with it. At least it'll slow the adware down (they have to reinstall, y'know so if anything is left of em they show up again. But slowly but surely you'll be able to kill them.). anyway, *hugs computer* get better, compy...

*shrugs* I use PC-cillin - I don't have Norton anymore. As for IE vs Firefox that will depend on what differences there are. I'll try it but I've never liked the idea of using it for some reason (afraid it will skrew up my sites...at least Safari does but that's a mac....). As for users, I'm the only one so no problem there (grabs computer...all 400+ GB are mine for storage! Ha!)

I have no idea what Regedit is...and truthfully, if it involves going into the system and changing something it is best left for a professional...I would end up royally skrewing up my system. I'm lucky with the reboot! And I forgot the drivers!

I'm stubborn, Shard, and I know it. You're trying to help and thanks...*shrugs* Change varies for me *is downloading Firefox for the heck of it to try it* If I don't like what it does to my sites...well, we'll see...

The tabs are a big plus, I've found.

O_o Maybe it's good to get in the habit of Firefox so that you'll always be seeing what other people are seeing? Unless all of the pages are meant to be personal.

anyhow, hope the comp's fixed soon! XP Sucks that it's acting wonky.

I like having the scroll bar changed, too...(what are the tabs). It's just going to take longer to get everything changed to how it's suppose to be. I liked the linking the script part so that I had less html to look at when updating as I do everything manually in Notepad. IE had the option to edit directly from the window...that's gone. It will be a major adjustment. IE spoiled me, I guess. The pages are not meant to be personal but look nice and...well...professional. *sighs* Everything looks fine when I change my fonts around but not everyone has the same font settings as me...

Tabs allow you to open multiple windows within the same one, if that makes any sense. If you go to "File -> New Tab", you'll see what I mean. It takes a bit of getting used to, at first, but it makes browsing /so/ much tidier. XD I like that feature best out of anything Firefox has to offer.

:\ It sucks that things don't look the same from browser to browser... but then again, I guess a mark of professionalism is having a page that looks decent across multiple browsers! ^^; You could look at it as an experience to help you gain that much more of an edge in web design!

Yeah, but I'm still dreading all the work I have to do...again...Thankfully I hadn't gotten very far into Falas and the FGPC (which don't look bad in Firefox). It's Treval that is killed horrible...*growls* I'll probably build the pages in IE so I can hit the 'edit' tab then make sure it works in firefox because no edit tab will drive me literlarily insane!

*wanders off with no inspiration to do anything tonight...*

Worst of all, I lost the only records I had to go by for the last clutch of the 10th Pass Falas (The really big one with 140 dragons). Yeah, not happy 'bout that.

And why I can't wait for NaNoWriMo is beyond me. Perhaps an excuse not to fret over all this...*sighs*

well THAT just hit me like a ton of bricks. >.<

my advice: get the free version of AVG and Ad-Aware if you don't already. AVG i've found is really helpful, and my compy hasn't been mucking up at all since i got it. it's also cleared out a LOT of the crap on my family's home computer (a miracle!) so it only restarts itself once in a while now. =P seriously, its first run-through after i downloaded it found about 80 infected objects in the first half hour.

Just to warn you, I may not be able to get my computer back until after the 20th. Money issues...This means my exchange dragon will be late as my mac has a fued going with the scanner...*glares at them both* In the mean time, I'm going to see what kind of stuff I can do with Treval magic info...*wanders away after a /really/ bad day at work and still no word on her computer anyway*

*hugs* Curl up with a book and a cup of tea, maybe? ^^; Hope they let you know about the comp soon... macs are a bugger when they go under, even if they work wonderfully for most of the time! If worse comes to worse, you can always jot down quick notes on a pad of paper.

I'm sure that folks can be accomodating. There's people who've disappeared for one reason or other all the time.

Yeah. My mac is pretty good. Of course I don't use it often unless I feel like laying in bed and doing something. I still have to get a bunch of stuff off it from school then it might run a bit quicker. As much as I hate it, I love it at the same time...*shrugs* Of course, if something goes wrong with it, I can't go to my teacher to get help and I can't think of any places in town that work with macs...*pats her laptop* Don't get sick, got it. I can't get you fixed....and reformating you would be a major dissaster....

Of course, not having my computer is driving me insane....
