Aireona's Character and Species Database; Questions Welcome

Post by aireona93 »

Dray's question about my database got me thinking that I should repost my character and species listings for people that may be curious.

Characters: http://www.testasodofenda.com/charspecies.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This listing does not have anywhere near all the dragons and characters that the Nexus inspired, however, if you know the name of the character that you are after try just typing their name after testasodofenda.com. If you still can't find it, let me know.

Species: http://www.testasodofenda.com/species.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm currently working on updating and improving both, so hopefully one day everything will be up on these lists.

Also, if any of you are curious about my species information for your own characters, feel free to ask here. I lurk enough that I should be around to answer them. Also, I really enjoy talking about my species. :3 And potentially sharing them. I never mind letting people make characters as long as they keep them canon (I don't write all that species info for nothing).

Woah, that bit at the end of your Nexus Dragons species info bit is pretty intense. Close down adoption of hatchlings? :o Rough for the bonded pair coming back!

The Federation is all about personal freedom, so I guess I just thought it would be natural for some Nexus dragons in the Federation to be against giving baby dragons away to random people. It made for some really interesting story interactions since most of my Nexus dragons don't mind the tradition at all, and those that do are pretty vocal about it.

It would also be a pretty solid reason if you ever decided it was time to leave the Nexus -- or if you wanted to jump back in whole hog you could IC-ly work out a justification!

I love your databases. The info is so tidy and detailed!

I made a database like I wish everyone had. I see all these great species designs that other people come up with, and I am like- I want to know more!! So, when it comes to my own species I get uber detailed. Lol.

I am trying to go through my old stuff now and get info up for all of the species that I used in the Nexus. A bunch of my old bonders were crazy species that I never wrote any info for. It's fun to go back and fix that. : P

The stuff I nerd out over. XD

It's a good thing! If you're ever in the mindset of trying to preserve some info from various Nexus Species, I had a bunch of the really old ones listed on the Star City website, and I'm sure we could scour for more info as needed. There would be quite a few empty fields but I suspect that one could fill in the blanks for certain givens.

That will require 3 things to happen:

1) Dray forgets to pay for the domain name. -- annoying, but not world-ending because all the data is on a server that my husband and I pay for. It's just that no one will be able to reach it.
2) My husband and I default on the payment of the server. -- this will result in the loss of publicly available data.
3) All my backups of the site explode. -- Considering that I have a backup on my personal machine, a backup in dropbox, a backup through dropbox onto a desktop machine, a backup on our personal server (not through dropbox), and a backup on an external harddrive, we're going to need a lot of pain to happen simultaneously to lose everything.

I would LOVE to work on that Dray. :)

In my defense, depression not good for creativity...*pouts* I know it's not a good excuse but yeah...BUUUTTT I got the basic pages done and sent off to StarFyre and, though the CSS dosn't like her version of Firefox, i have officially dumped it off into her lap...desk...computer's harddrive.....whatever. :P

I want to have my own database anyway, so don't worry, Yakima. Whenever you get around to the stuff for the main Nexus site, it'll be there. No worries at all.

There's nothing wrong with multiple backups of species info! Heckit, that's what I'd been trying to do with the Star City dragon species index originally; I had been having so much trouble finding the information I needed to make clutches with the various super-old dragons people kept sending me, so I was trying to jot down the basics. I think I like Airy's version with the wider context of culture and overall personality better, though -- it skips the 'shinies for collection' stage and is more integrated as a creative whole!

I have no problem with that, Airy, heck, im putting my species info at my home page (eventually), so don't worry. The Nexus Databases are mostly just a place that people can come look for information in one spot (and Star has things linked together, too). And also, if someones domain or something goes down, we don't lose that information! I think that was one of the biggest driving motivations for the Nexus Databases - how many pages/information have we lost because of geocities?

I think my latest revamp on the infopages was to allow more flexability in information. And to allow people to get as detailed as they want - heck, if StarFyre knows how (and I don't doubt that she does), she could probably set up some of the Fact stuff (among others), to allow people to add a category or such. *shrugs* I've never been able to sit down like you guys and get as detailed as you all get, so Airy's format wouldn't work for me, but I tried to include the allowance of more complicated things in the Nexus' templates.

I take detail to another level. Lol. But, Yakima, I always thought you put a lot of detail into your species. :) I love reading about them.
That being said, there are times when I just take chunks of my template out if I don't feel like putting that amount of information down, so it's not written in stone.
