Minecraft Adventures!

Post by StarFyre »

So, I've been working on hand-building (not using creative mode) a scale model of Akelara so that I can have screencaps to show people, since I rather fail at drawing buildings (doing things where I can physically walk around 'em also helps me envision how it's supposed to look), and Birdie brought up the fact that scale-model Akelara is "neat" but... well... it's not Akelara the way I've described it. A place where humans feel dwarfed, where humans stick mostly to the central areas, or hitch rides on their bonds.

Which brought up the idea of writing a mod in order to include everything I'd need to honest-to-dog build Akelara properly (like a rainbow block, for the rainbow sands, and other things that escape me at the current time) and building the OMGWTF version of Akelara on a private server (with creative mode this time! No way in fury am I trying to steal enough lava from the nether for THAT sized building!) then opening it up to others and letting people explore in adventure mode - maybe even doing some active storytelling or sommat - have a running storyline that people can pick through at their leisure. Maybe build Koshi Keidai and leave it mostly unlit, so that all sortsa junk spawns in the tunnels, and leave troves of treasure and story deep in its caves.

Would people be interested? I'm already capable of the server version of the game -- my husband is currently running a hardcore game on our server, and Birdie's played on the normal version of that game (before it was taken down), so I know people from distant lands can join...

Oh! And current screencap of Akelara's progress:

It has waaaaallls... and scumbag skeles, but they'll burn in the sun!

It sounds amazing, really. The main reason JKat and I play Minecraft is to explore in any case!

Holy crap dude. That's a monumental undertaking. Please tell me you're not doing that in survival mode, that would be insane. XD

And immediately makes me want to make Sanctuary, the Nidus Avengaea, etc... TROUBLE.

<.< Sorry, JKat, but I am indeed building that building up there in survival mode. The outer edge of the wall, that you can't see from this angle, is being cast in obsidian, from lava that I'm stealing from the nether, one bucket at a time. If I was to build the true-to-scale building, THAT would be done in creative mode, but this one...

Yeah, that's all hand built.

More screenies!

THE WALL OF DOOM! Which is, as of this posting, half complete.

And the partially built north tower. You can also see where I've begun capping the wall with netherbrick.
