Nexus Forum

Post by StarFyre »

So, as some people can attest, I've been slowly modifying the forum to be... more useful, I suppose, in conjunction with the new mainpage at nexusdragons.com.

So, I'm going to throw this out there right now -- Is there any forum addons or dodads that people would like to see? I can't guarantee that everything will be modded into place, but I'll at least give most things a good look.

How about...*tries to think of something sarcastic* *fails*

I dunno, but you can be sure I'll tell ya when I think of something. You've fixed the things that have been bugging me the most. :D 'cause you're awesome! :P

Hmm, I just realized; here at school I'm using IE and the little chat bar at the bottom is showing up for me, but when I'm at home, it doesn't appear. I have firefox with ad-block at home. Think that might have something to do with it? (Then again, someone mentioned something about it not working correctly on a particular skin...)
Darkling Dawn: Fauna Frenzy Open to candidates; flights open to males/females; rukel eggs/breedings available.
Drockh-Tallahn Castle: 3 eggs, 2 available. Females and males needed.
Sgiath Wolfkeep: 7 pups available
Sedona Weyr: 12 eggs, Deadline March 8. Chasers and a female needed.

Kit should have fixed the skin, just the mobile one doesn't work, I think. It might be something that is being blocked by adds? Might be able to go into a setting somewhere and unblock it.

Hmm.. my ad-block plus isn't blocking the chat, and I use the chat with firefox, so... I'm really not sure why you'd be having problems. You can go into the adblock screen though and see what's being blocked - if anything from envolve is, that's the chat.

I love that the forums aren't marked as read now if I visit and don't get through all of the threads within an hour or two. That's the biggest bonus right there. Aside from that, some consideration into how to restructure the content might give our site more interest to newbies and those who have left for long enough that they can't quite remember the process. Some centralization of the adoption process would be really helpful too, now that geocities is gone and the status quo outside of our group does not focus around creating a web space. I think that if we could find some midway point between all of the hard work we have put into our own websites, and created a soft, forum-based start for returners and newbies, the Nexus could become less of a steep learning curve and thus more accessible.

To me, that means structuring the forums and sub-forums to accommodate things like... Well, a top forum-section with 'General Chatter', 'Introduce Yourself', 'Rules and Info'. A mid-forum with 'Character Applications' (for newbies building adopters looking for advice), maybe if we want to give the place some focus on writing development, a 'Accepted Character' sub-forum for passed applications -- and in that sub-forum, each character's thread allows for new stories to be posted, new images to be pasted, chatter about the character, planning even? -- A 'story and RP Planning' subforum here might help if we ant to kick the in-thread chatter! A third sub-forum might include 'In-Forum Adoptions' (that might include the giveaway-style sub-forum we have now, as well as any that don't have a website as a home base!), a 'Website Adoptions' for those clutches and flights managed off of the forum, and perhaps a 'Special Events' for things that might effect more than one adoption agency, like Frenzies, Gathers, Big Ol Space Invasions, etc. (Maybe the birthday giveaways as a sub-forum of that? X3) Lastly, a forum for RP and Collaborative Writing if we want to separate that from the players' characters' threads... perhaps another forum somewhere to chatter about other adoption games and sites because we might be attracting those kinds of newbies, and I know we have cross-interests amongst ourselves! A Literature sub-forum and an Art sub-forum would make sense, too.

Totally needs some more kicking around to make plausible, but taking a look at what is going on in forums around the adoption-sphere these days should give us some ideas. Just have to find a way to blend in the writing-focus we have and a nod to our geocities/website cache origins!
