Universial Nexus Genetics

Post by Yakima »

I can't find the thread I thought exsisted so...new thread time!

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p4i ... vnaeI/edit

This is on google and completely editable by anyone who has ideas to contribute.

This is, for those of us who are genetic freaks (have I mentioned I want a Genetic Fiend Badge yet?) and like having a structure to work with. This is also a good way for those of us with species that breed into the nexus to be able to say, "This trait breeds easily, this one dosent, this one is hard to breed...blah blah". Obviously, there are some of us who don't like these 'restrictions' but I did a dummy test and found that, well, it works and it allows one to interpret to their hearts content. Either you can randomize or pick and choose the traits that get carried on. I know at one point I was going to do a series like Dray's BWR and use genetics but we'll have to see. I have a feeling clutches will/would be small just because of the depleted interest these days. :D

Anyway, feel free to comment (here or in the Doc if you know how). :P

I think that the one thing we should instate from the beginning is an 'Xx' gene, which is equivalent to 'not found on the other parent'. This can cross all boundaries, and allows something for, say, one parent who has ears and the other who doesn't to breed and have a gene for that sort of thing. Any parent sporting X means that other genes will either not be visible or will merge to a half-way point. Any parent sporting x would mean that the paired gene is dominant. With certain species, we could leave a note about the wild-type Xx gene: "This species will pass down X for body-type mutations, and x for colour-type mutations' for example. That'd mean that the children are more likely to be half-way between both parents in build, but their colours would reflect the species of the other parent more often if something odd were to show up that had no equivalent.

Blar d'blar, I like that you made a googledoc for this! Hooray!

For things like this, it really comes in useful (google docs). :)

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone has used this breeding code to good effect yet? (Link again for the curious: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p4i ... vnaeI/edit#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

I'm still in the process of shovelling of dust from my character database (and finding a new home for it) so I haven't had time to go into it much, but I'm very curious to see how it manages to mesh various kinds of Nexus dragons together in potential clutches, even if people are only making them once in a blue moon or for their own fancy, now.
