Nexus Species List

Post by aireona93 »

Hey all! It has been a while since I was active on here, but I'd like to come back as much as I can (I'm in grad school now so it's a bit of a struggle- lol). Most of you know that I love all the species that have cropped up here on the Nexus. I have been doing clutches (and may continue with that), but I was thinking about trying to get together a simple database for all of our species, and the species that have popped up here over the years. I know that Kat worked on that a little bit in the past for the Nexus website, but as far as I know, that hasn't been updated for a while.

Basically, what I would like to see is a central page with links to information on the species- mostly linking out to different people's information pages, since most of us have taken a good amount of time to post info on our pages. There are a lot of minor species that just have info here, and for those, I would like to back up the info on my own website (if that's all right with the respective creators, of course) with the proper ownership information.

What do you guys think? Good idea? Bad idea?

That's pretty much what's being worked on with the Nexus homepage, I just need to complete the code that will allow for people to enter the information they want on the various species and then write the code to create the pages. I'd probably have had it done by this weekend, cept I'm trapped in Rockford until Friday evening thanks to... er... well, I really shouldn't speak ill of the dead (husband's grandmother died the day after xmas. Errrrr.... *sweatdrop* but I just wanna go hooooooooome!). ANYWAY.

Yeah. This: http://www.nexusdragons.com/index.php as soon as it gets done. There are examples of how things'll work via Yakima's work.

Lololol, no worries. I had some pretty good momentum going with the coding, and then finals happened. Erk! And then winter break happened and I was like "woo! I'll get coding done again!" and then sickness happened. And then the visit to the family. And then staying and extra ten days for a funeral. This has been a WONDERFUL WAY TO START MY YEAR. THANK YOU UNIVERSE, I LOVE YOU TOO.

Hahaha! I know that feeling all too well. Things are bound to look up though. And I might just start to get some information together for my own amusement. Especially cause I'd like to dredge up all the minor species that people were coming up with for giveaways and the monthly challenge thing that we used to do.

Yeah, this has been one mess after another this past month. I'm still astonished that I actually did as well on my classes as I did, instead of failing nearly all of them like I thought I would I ended up with B's. MAGIC.

And hey, if you get a bunch of info together, you can input it into the database later when I get everything up =P Saves me having to hunt that junk down myself!

I'd love to do that, actually. Cause, that gives me the chance to go through and research the species, and contribute to your guy's awesome website. I also have a general species template that I am willing to donate for use/modification if you'd like it.

*chuckles* Yeah, I needed a project for a class. I choose the nexus as my target. Starfyre volunteered her special talents and I'm eager to see this up and going. I also have this to contribute (somehow) once we're ready to open it up. Reminds me, I should start getting info together about my species and worlds and stuff. Because I'm sure I'll have lots of dragons sent after me from Dray's corner of the Nexus if I don't have them proofread! :D (and to make you feel better about that comment, Dray, i have a friend in LotRO who always is commenting/correcting my spelling in chat. Don't feel bad...of course, i get great satisfaction correcting his typos. :D :D :D)

Then by all means, collect the info in a central location! I know there's a looooot of mini-species that got made and vaguely handed out (some of them I think are mine... err...). That's part of what the website is to help with, after all.

And sure, I'd like to see the generic template - no promises on using it, but it might end up giving some ideas or a better idea on how to lay things out. *shrugs*

Cool. I will work on that. :)

And no worries for the template. Mine is much more detailed than what most people post, but it has helped me come up with some pretty detailed species concepts over the years, so maybe it could be helpful here as well- at least in part.

I've always really liked your species and worlds cause of how detailed they are. ^^ Anyway, flattery aside... =P

Yakima - I've actually been thinking about the work I need to do for the nexus main site, and depending upon how you want everything to work for your website, I can probably reuse a good chunk of the code I need to write for your site as well. Which SHOULD mean that I can get yours done fairly quickly after I finish the Nexus.

And if i don't get a job soon...well, website will go away, too..until i can get a job to pay for it...

Here is some of my initial research, gonna just keep it here for everyone's reference. I have notes on all of these from the forum and whatever websites people had up at the time, since I have fairly developed characters of all these dragons. So for those missing information, I can post what I have if the group desires. And for those of us still active, maybe posting info on our species here would help get everything together for the site when it's ready? I'm gonna post links to mine in just a few minutes.

Abianderni (Unyko's):
http://www.nexusdragons.com/forum/viewt ... rni#p66444

http://unykness.pegaruny.com/MagisPrime/

Asana (Starburst's):
http://www.mysticalplace.com/Starfall/info.html

Avyndal (Silver Midnight's): No online information that I know of, but I have some notes from when I did my clutch of them. I can post those if that would be helpful.

Darkelf Dragon (Desiree Hilliard's): http://www.reocities.com/darkelf1245/ ((Archives))

Unyko's Element Dragon: http://www.nexusdragons.com/forum/viewt ... nt+Dragons

Icedeer Dragon (Neogreen's): Couldn't find the original post (winter gather), have notes

Meritan (Silver Midnight's): http://www.nexusdragons.com/forum/viewt ... it=Meritan (I couldn't find their info on the page, but I have notes- not currently on my computer, however)

Phoenix-Dragon (Kendarath's): INFO NO LONGER AVAILABLE (NOTES) http://www.nexusdragons.com/forum/viewt ... nix+Dragon

Vayamir (StarFyre's): http://www.nexusdragons.com/forum/viewt ... it=Vayamir

Winged Wolves: They aren't dragons but they have a pretty heavy presence here, so I figure they're worth including- Yakima and Dray will have good notes for their info.

Sweeeet. <3 for finding some of that info. Of mine that I apparently have online:

Myrsilk: http://www.silveredmagic.com/akelara/libmyrsilk1.html
Alevaharin: http://www.silveredmagic.com/akelara/libaleva1.html
Alaiskya: http://www.silveredmagic.com/akelara/libalaiskya1.html
Aiji Kamui: http://www.silveredmagic.com/akelara/libaiji1.html (though only the barest of outlines, I have better notes on my comp somewhere, I think)
Dathra: http://www.silveredmagic.com/akelara/libdathra1.html

Beyond the Vayamir, are there any other species of mine that don't have information on my site?

Me too, though it's fun seeing what we do have still around.

I only wish my art style had ever gotten any better, it really hasn't. But then, I was twice anyone else's age when I started in here, my style had always been the way it was, lol. My coloring techniques have certainly improved. But it's always been really neat seeing the way people's anatomy, sketching, and everything else has evolved. And I'm very glad that some folks stuck with it, that's for sure.

Do I need to make a list of all my dragon species then? *faints* :P

Airy, there will be a way to add non-dragon like creatures (like winged wolves) to the Nexus. :D Trust me, not leaving them out as the designer of the site. hehee

Pretty much, yeah. That's how its sorta set up.

I have them dividided into catigories:
Dragconic
Avian
Alien
Flit
Pet
Tech
(How starfyre ends up setting it up, I dunno yet, :P This is just what I had).

For a winged wolf, for example, it would show up in the Species listing as Winged Wolf - with 5 Sub Species since there are about 5 different breeds. This would be true to any dragon that has a subspecies type but I'm sure not many have sub species. Do the subspecies get listed with the others? Don't know. Not in charge of the database. :D

In the beginning, it's going to be a test run and well have to start adding information just to find bugs. Though, I was thinking, for sake of starting out, finding a way to add about 3K dragons right off the bat would be nice instead of one at a time. *pokes her database of Pern Weyrs*

I wonder if keeping it simple in terms of sub sets might be the way to go, just considering the sheet amount of species that have passed through here. There are tons of minor species that I have been digging up.
