When it rains it pours

Post by StarFyre »

So I've only been here off and on the past week or so, because last thursday my husband got into a car accident that ended up totaling our car. I, luckily, was not in the car at the time (or else I probably wouldn't be on for a much longer period of time, due to my already stated issue with neck-problems), but Joe's been going to the chiropractor for the past week because of it. No serious injuries, but still... trying to make sure he doesn't turn into a ball of pain in the future.

(For those interested - the accident responsibility fell completely on the other driver. She ran a red light (Joe had a stale green, so she didn't just run through a yellow, she decided to just not stop at the red) and he ran into her driver-side door. We're currently fighting with their insurance, or rather, my father is at this point, because their insurance tried to jip us, sooo... dad's dealing with it.)

And just today, we learned that Joe's grandmother (mother's mother) had a stroke. A pretty bad one from the stuff I've heard, including that they're calling it a "brain bleed" and that she has partial paralysis and cannot swallow anything more fluid than applesauce or it goes down her windpipe. She also apparently has a "no resuscitate" order in her file, and probably won't let them put a feeding tube in. ... So I'm foreseeing another trip up north real soon. Dear lord...

<.< Uh.. so... how's everyone else doing?

Ugh. Double ugh!! I'm so sorry!

My life is pretty much the suckest it's ever been. I did finally get my benefits card, but I have enough food and can't really use it yet. No money for rent, no job, thankfully my feet have stopped being swollen from my period (they were literally unbendable a couple days ago). Still looking for work, my friend has me doing some cleaning in his shop but that's pocket change too. :/ nothing like being told you might be evicted from a house you own, because the spot you rent isn't covered by mortgage. Mom's nursing home is demanding I pay them for months rent, and I have already given them everything I could, leaving me without my own rent money, but of course, they're still going to send that to collections - as though they're ever going to see it. ever. As long as its in mom's name?

Well, yeah I could just say "hey it's her money, you deal with it." but I can't do that... no. Wish I was just unethical enough to pull that off. but I'd have to move and leave no forwarding addy, and I don't even have enough money to get a place. Oh yeah and bankruptcy which apparently will also have one more payment after I'm done paying - a filing fee? which wasn't included IN the fees, for whatever stupid legal reason... more money they won't get, because I *don't have a job and have no money hence going through bankruptcy*... *sigh*

... Anyone else!? :)

SO! FUN TIMES! The other person's insurance stopped paying for the rental last Friday, and so we were basically a few hours away form having the police called on us for stolen property. Wtf die in a fire insurance company.

In other news, lawyer's coming over tomorrow morning at ten. Weee lawyers. Twitch. But hey, if that's what it takes to get all this shit dealt with... (the agent started playing 'if I ignore it, they'll get tired, take my offer and go away' with my dad and us, soooo... screw them.)

-.- IHATEPEOPLE

That is all

He's doing better than he was - been going to the chiropractor ever since the accident happened, so I'm hoping that nothing permanent comes of this mess. Don't need another practically-disabled person in the household! =P

On a more serious note, though, cause of the age of the car, and the way the accident happened (nose on, which cars of that era were designed to take with minimal issue), all the failsafes went off exactly as they should. (You can see the deflated airbags in the shots taken at the scene.) Seatbelts caught properly, airbags deployed, frame took the brunt of the damage and channeled it around the cab instead of into it (driver's door can't be opened, because of the damage to that side, but the passenger side can be opened still). Also, Joe was wearing a leather jacket, which absorbed a lot of the seatbelt impact damage, so he had a small bit of bruising/rawness where the strap went, but nothing major. He's had one or two headaches, some neck pain, and a bit of upper-back pain, which, all things considered, is coming off VERY light.

Helped that he had slammed the breaks on as soon as he saw the car in the intersection. So he didn't hit at 40 (speed limit of that road), but probably somewhere in the 25-30 range.

Well, they are an insurance agency, which means their entire goal is to take in more in policies than they have to pay out in claims. So if they can make people like me'n Joe take a pittance and go away immediately, that's what they want. (Oh right, you're from Canada -- how's car insurance work there, anyway?)

Because of the age of the car, and some small bit of previous damage (a dent in the rear panel from a tree limb falling on it), they wanted to pay us $900 for property damage with another $300-400 for what's called "Pain and Suffering" - basically lost wages, inconvenience due to lack of car, etcetc - and some of the medical bills.

Now, I dunno whether it's different wherever any of y'all live, but you can't get a trustworthy car for under $3000 out here. (And if it is different-- ooh, shiny! Gimmegimme =P) And while I'm a half-decent mechanic IF I have a garage/tools/temps not below freezing, I have none of those three things currently, and would only have two out of three if I went up north. Somehow. Seeing as dad would have to come get me, cause mom's car is ALSO broken (threw a piston, blew a hole in the engine, same day as Joe's accident. Fun times)

MORE FUN TIMES FOR MY FAMILY:

The company that my father is technically working for (he works AT a school district, as an employee OF a company hired by that school district) is under investigation by Three-Letter-Acronym governmental agencies for fraud. Apparently, they've been taking government monies, submitting false reports of technology upgrades (according to the papers that my father has seen, this district apparently has things like a dedicated interbuilding wireless network, a minimum of gigabit wired connection, with fiber-optic between the buildings, etcetc -- truth of the matter is, the buildings have NO wireless, and old copper cabling that makes 56k dialup look like highspeed ethernet.)

This company has been stealing money hand over fist - the investigation that my father is involved in only covers the 2010-2011 year, and involves some $1 million dollars. This company has had this contract for 4 years. AND the initial up-front payment for the company was $3.2 million dollars.

(These lawyers involved mean business, too -- according to dad, one said that he'd just come back from Atlanta, where he just finished putting away the CEO of one company and his cronies for 25 years in jail for the exact same thing.)

<.< Thing iiiiiss.. this company that my dad works for has ALL the records for the school - it basically controls the district's ability to do attendance, to deal with finance records, EVERYTHING. If this company goes down without the school district being prepared, the school district goes down with 'em. And no one thought about this until my dad brought it up (he's such a party pooper =P)

(Also, lol, my dad doesn't play well with scumbags (he knew the company he was working for was sleeze, he just didn't realize exactly HOW MUCH sleeze was involved) - he's fully cooperating with the lawyers and telling them the truth about the state the school district is in. In fact, in a way, he was specifically hired by the district to do this. Hee.)

SO. What else can explode in my life/my family's life?

Well at this point, there's pretty much me left standing in my immediate family - Joe's had an accident, Mom's car asploded, and Dad's employer is getting investigated. Makes me wanna become more of a recluse than I am.

My dad's a rather blunt, no-nonsense sort of person. People tend to like him, cause he's honest, personable, and doesn't oversell things. This also means that he tends to side with the people getting screwed (this isn't the first time he's worked on the behalf of people-getting-screwed, though it's never gotten to USG-agency levels before. Usually it's just the school board doesn't want to do x-y-or-zed and the teachers NEED x-y-AND-zed to do their work. That sort of thing)

I now own a 2001 Audi A4.

It is swank. And black. Which only makes it swanker.

I'm not going to bore you with the engine details (but it is turbo-charged, for those who've had experience with that), but even just the interior stuff is enough to make my jaw drop.

Sunroof. Heated leather seats. Climate control that aims for a specific temperature instead of simple "cold-cool-warm-hot" forced air. Headlight wipers (lol). Pretty slick radio for a 2001 car (which means it still has a tape deck, but also has a digital display and a cd reader). All wheel drive.

<.< Whoever originally bought the car wanted SWANK. And now I got it. Heeeeee. It drives like a dream.

If you wanna see the pics that the guy took of it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-Aud ... 2a0da02e72
