Introducing the Aelith...

Post by Kitsuneko »

Genetic Information available at:
http://deviant-uprising.com/nexus/viewtopic.php?t=3086

The Aelith are a relatively short-lived race compared to many in the Nexus; they reach adulthood at the age of ten and live for a total of around 50 years. They are quite adaptable and widespread on their homeworld, having adapted to live in many different climates. They have a technology level roughly equivalent to that of 21st century Earth, though they are rather advanced in some areas, particularly genetics, and not so much in other areas. They are aware of other worlds and having a thriving trade market with them.
The Aelith are more than a little obsessed with genetics, and have developed technology to the point where they can identify hidden genes in their own genotype with over 95% accuracy and even do some genetic engineering sometimes. They can be a superficial people and it's not uncommon for a female, when it comes time for her to mate, to choose a male solely for his genetic qualities. They're mostly a solitary race, anyway, except for mothers and their cubs, and they rarely mate with the same male twice. Despite their mammalian appearance, they lay 1-3 soft, leathery eggs every 3 years.
Aelith live everywhere from the tundra to the equator, and natural selection has ensured a wide variety of physical traits which differ from biome to biome. Body shape may vary in different regions but the template shows a more-or-less mid-range body type for simplicity's sake. The only physical characteristics apart from coloring that are reflected on the template are long/short fur and full-sized/stunted wings. Certain gene alleles may be more common than others in a given biome, but others can still show up. A tundra Aelith could very well be black or red, it's just very rare and not considered desirable in a snowy region.
They do not naturally bond, but some Aelith may very well interested in bonding others, or finding an unnatural way to bond (like Avengaeans and their scrolls). They have no special abilities beyond a verbal language; if you have other questions, ask and I can probably make up an answer.

Eight of these are mixed breeds from breedings, and as all but one of those were female, the other purebreds are all male from various biomes. Two per person, though parental claims don't count towards the limit. Breeding forms are also open again.

1. Mixed Female--Ryaral x Irith (Dray)
2. Mixed Female--Ryaral x Irith (Shard)
3. Mixed Female--Idai x Ralla (Starburst)
4. Mixed Female--Idai x Ralla
5. Mixed Female--Idai x Ralla (Yakima)
6. Mixed Male--Kilo x Phaelo
7. Mixed Female--Kilo x Phaelo
8. Mixed Female--Kilo x Phaelo
9. Tundra Male
10. Temperate Grassland Male (Shard)
11. Tropical Rainforest Male
12. Tropical Savannah Male (Dray)
13. Taiga Male
14. Desert/Scrub Male (Starburst)

To Adopt:

Your Name:
Which number(s) do you want? (Up to two):

To Breed:

1. Both Aelith must be paged, but do not have to belong to the same person.
2. Permission must be granted if you're using someone else's Aelith, though.
3. You may only submit one pair at a time; a female can only be bred once in a breeding round, but males can be used multiple times.
4. The person who submits the breeding form is entitled to one of the offspring. Extra eggs will be open for adoption by anyone (Though ICly, whether they're adopted as children or raised by parents until adulthood is up to the parents' owners.) If you don't want to claim yours and leave it for others, let me know, that's fine too.
5. After a set amount of time or everyone's replied, I'll put all the children up in a post similar to the first one, along with some random newbloods.

The form:

Your name:
Male's name:
Male's Page:
Male's Genetic Code:
Female's name:
Female's Page:
Female's Genetic Code:
Do you want to keep one of the offspring?:

No, I just thought I'd link to the original post to make things a bit easier. I guess I forgot to say that people can post their forms on this topic, or PM. :P But I'd intended to just handle all the Aelith stuff through this topic.

Ooh me. :)

4 and 8 please? They will likely wind up in the Dragonmasters of Zekira setting, where they'll probably do the most good!

Squeeee! Neat!

How tall are they at the shoulder? And can they speak other languages than their own? They'd need to learn Zekiran.

They're pretty small, like, 10-15 feet long, so whatever that translates to at the shoulder. Not sure?
They can learn new languages, as easily as any human, and these were adopted as children, so new languages would come pretty easily to them.

Excellent.

Also, since they will be on Zekira... will they have any predisposition toward or against the slavery that goes on there? Because they could go two ways here: one would be that they are brought on and let loose to do their own thing, left alone by the zekirans in general unless there's an invasion on; the other is that they would be brought *by someone* who becomes their Owner. Any cultural issues with that? Since they're reasonably sentient with their own technology and such?

Not that they'd remain slaves, because unless they're absolutely hopeless at Zekiran learning, they'd be Raised to their own status (dragon master, dragon breeder, pelatih/animal master) in time anyway.

An interesting question. Aelith never really developed an extensive slave system, so while they would not really be experienced with slavery, they wouldn't have any moral objection to it.

Can I please have... 2 and 12? I'd go for one of the tropical rainforest ones but the climate of Starfall isn't particularly rainforesty. XD

Starburst! They may come from a certain climate, but they don't necessarily have to remain there. They acclimate pretty fast, so barring sticking short-furred Aelith in the middle of the tundra or something, it's fine, and even that can be fixed easily with clothing. Mind you, I have no idea what Aelith clothing would look like, or if they might have a different method of keeping warm, but their technology is certainly advanced enough that they'd have ways around it. Anyway, here's your two:

Mine are paged! I had plenty of fun with this, and if more of them become available I'd very much like to keep them on this page with Yngsame as their hostess.

Trying to draw stunted wings onto the existing template would have given me a headache, so yeah, two templates. I might draw up some more unrelated pures if there's still interest, but they can be bred as well, though I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the extra eggs, since they can have up to three.

Maybe keep track of how old they are? Since they mature at 10, may only breed once in several years, and only live to 50, perhaps keeping each female's breeding schedule would be in order (or at least, a nod at it from a story perspective). Maybe 'halfway through' a breeder's lifespan another starter would be made available?

....... YEAH I know, I know. but still, lol - yngsame would be keeping track of that stuff!! heehe.

in either case I'd love to have cubs from this pair, perhaps keep one and let the other two go - you know like the flying cats were gonna be from a ways back in another thread?
