Winter Gather - First Post! DONE!!

Post by Shard »

EDIT 4.22.15 ** note that the url for the pickup pages has changed - if you have any need for ones which had been in /winter/ just check the new url.

http://www.droppin-the-fork.com/dragons ... ter2k9.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

*
It's finally all uploaded. yes, it took 5 or 6 days to get it actually uploaded... :/ But, it's there! So if there are images that aren't coming through please tell me which ones *specifically* are broken, or mangled, and I'll get them to you.

It was so cool seeing the new stuff, and the wonderful additions that everyone gave! The extras page is filled with more of Myrror's fantastic critters, so I think first come first served, please right-click to see the image name, and claim them if you wish!

*whew*

***

Might as well get this ball rolling!

Yes, 2009 will see a Winter Gather!

As always, just design whatever you feel best fits "Winter" for you, however many items you like, with as much detail in their background (like parentage, powers, etc) as you wish to divest.

Email them to me, don't post them here obviously, since I'll be randomly assigning them to us all!

You do NOT have to draw anything to participate, but I'll likely set a preference to those who do.

***

Send me this info! Send to kshau_protectorate @ yahoo.com please with the subject line Winter Gather 2009!

-- You
-- Where I can reach you
-- What url you want these to be linked to, when they're paged

-- The images!
Please name the images according to a sensible system. I will generally add a code to them with who created them if it's not already there (check my old giveaways to see those ;) ).
If the images come with information please include as much as you can unless it's all up to the recipient.

If there is info:
-- Name
-- Gender
-- Size (height, length, whatever is most appropriate let's put that chart to use lol)
-- Breed
-- Breeding or Naming Restrictions
-- Powers, abilities, natural/unnatural immunities, magic
-- Pedigree if any
-- Other stuff you'd like to include if it's not obvious such as background info on breed, habits, etc.

-- What you want to get in return
Large, small, pet, no pet, no evil (lol), color-specific, etc.

***

As last time I expect there to be a bunch available and some overflow. I don't know whether Myrror is going to be able to produce anything this year (I'm hoping! i love the holiday ones!) so unless there's a huge outpouring of things expect on average 2 large and 1 small, or the other way around if you wish. But like I said I don't know what the turnout will be, so whatever your wishes, I'll try and make sure they happen.

This year I think we should try to set the bar high and make some dragons that will really make whomever get 'em do a little happy dance. :) Not that past years were bad or anything, but what with all of the giveaways happening this summer, I think we've all been warmed up and could make some very interesting creatures!

Out of curiosity for those who are interested in participating: would you prefer a purebreed creature, or a hybrid one?

I think I might throw out some Elruvian Ice and Snow wolves, this year. *nods* I don't know if I'll be able to draw anything new but I haven't given out any wolves in a long time. Not sure if I'll do my giveaway, either. >.<Unless>ends gollum moment<

I have a plan as I usually do for a theme, myself :) Given what I've had in prior years sent out, folks might be able to guess it. :) I always wind up needing more research than I already have, on them lol.

For me, I like getting things that actually have some kind of background if not parents then at least a sense of who they are. I don't mind pure or hybrid, doesn't make much difference but I like to know about em in general.

As with previous years, I'm going to give out a pure-bred breed only available in winter, like how last year I gave out the Snow Elementals. I need to go ahead and get planning for this year.

I'll definitely try to get in on this this year. I think I only got in on one gather, and that was as a recipient only. When's the deadline Shard?

None yet. Probably January, since we haven't even entered Winter officially yet and it doesn't end until Feb :D So, around the end of the year.

Those Balespawn were pretty badass! XD I imagine that there is only so much room for evil baddies in people's collections though... unless they can learn to share!

Look at me, noobing it up in here! I'm gonna babble a bunch of questions, please feel free to gag me. XD

So, can someone explain to me this Winter Gather business? We send in special winter-themed dragons and they are gifted out at the end?

Can we send in multiple dragons to give? Should they be unique, or can we recolor a template?

Can we also do pets like the flits, etc?

...okay I'm done babbling now. >__> Forgive me (it's my first gather!).

Send in as many dragons as you want (re-colours or individuals... though we mostly just do recolours around here! XD) and then you can recieve a few dragons randomly in return. A couple of years back Myrror sent in so many dragons... so I think that you can make as many as you like!

Just be sure to be clear if you specifically don't want pets... XD sometimes they come up and if you didn't specify, you can get overrun by them (conversely, if you like them, it's a good time to get a bunch of the little buggers. :P)

hehe :D NOOOB!

The Winter Gather was thought up many, many years ago now, by folks who aren't even really here any more. We had a geocities site too, which was meant to be made by each of us to have a Pernese style "gather stall" with goods and such to trade and upload.

Eventually several of those folks vanished and I took over the site, and a couple years ago (2k4 is the first I have records for, right?) put it up for folks on the nexus.

You can submit as many as you like, of whatever species comes to mind. I've done flitters, ferilons, egyptan, gryphons, dragons and the like, myself. I think on average people do anywhere from 4 to 10 or more, depending on how ambitious they are. :D

Those are emailed to me, I set them aside on my hard drive, do a printout of the folder, and then start rolling dice when it's time to give them out. I put up a page with each participant's stuff, with any of the info that is needed. Done!

Thanks for the fast replies! Sounds really fun. :D

Dray - Conversely, I think I only have three 'pets' off the top of my head. Two of which are those lovely winged cats you did awhile back. (Though I did steal a couple Halloween flits when you posted those, not paged yet.)

If I survive the onslaught that is the Holiday Season I will scrawl something acceptable~

No particular deadline. Winter hasn't officially even begun yet. :) Probably "before January sometime" but aside from that, I haven't gotten anything in yet so it's no rush.

lol I know, we had that huge rainstorm that swept over San Diego for more than a day - which is to say "we hit our rainfall normal in 30 hours or less". Now it's headed east. have fun with it ;)

What the hell is up with the weather this year? You delicate southeners have a bunch of snow, whereas little ole me, living in the capital of Canada just got snow yesterday and it's less than a cm! I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't want to be snowed in for the customary 4 months, but I'd like to be able to make snowmen on Christmas.
