Charts, charts, charts!

Post by Yakima »

>.< I know this is kinda one of those subjects that shouldn't be brought up but...I want to show them off. I redid my Pernese size chart for Falas. Now, for the other passes I need to go back and recheck my calculations, but they should be pretty close to accurate.

Size Charts:
First Pass
Second Pass
Third Pass (Talor Cliff "Era")
Fourth Pass
Fifth Pass
Sixth Pass (Programmed Size & the chart I use for Falas Weyr)
Ninth Pass (I made the dragons 3 feet longer, putting golds "max" at 45, or Ramoth's size)

Growth Charts:
Sport
Green
Blue
Brown
Bronze
Gold

The chart for averages with all sizes has...vanished....urg...stupid computer!

Pretty nifty, Yakima! It's interesting to see how the sizes of Pernese dragons diverged over time... that they're all about the same height in the first pass and then the metallics just went "Blooooop~" over time.

Man, the biggest dragons must grow seriously quickly, looking at those growth charts. O_O You could sit and watch them amass... mass!

New template? Haven't seen it before. X3

Heh...yeah, I drew a new dragon for the charts. Inspried by some of the charts at the Nexus website. :P

Thanks...yeah, the growth ones took me a while because the DLGtP never states how big hatchlings are. So I just....guessed. I know the hatchlings are suppose to be about the size of a dog and the eggs are about a meter long and ovoid with queen eggs about 10%-20% bigger. *nods*

Wow! Those are really awesome. I enjoyed being able to see the progression in size through the pass charts, but the growth charts are easily some of the most useful charts I've seen. Makes me wonder why they've never occurred to me before :P

It really puts into perspective how much dragons need to EAT in that time. My gosh they'd be consuming nonstop.

....... And what about their skin, I mean, burn and peel shedding? ew? I don't specifically recall whether their skin *comes off*, in canon anyway, but wouldn't there be like... a market for shed sheets of dragon skin? LOL EW!

I would imagine you could use dragon hide as a type of leather - either for clothing, books, waterproof-sheets, etc. And I'd imagine that, if you grew up in that sort of situation, it would seem quite normal to you to pull dragon-leather jackets/boots/chaps/etc on, pull out and open a book bound in dragon-leather, or pull out huge tarps made of gold- or bronze-hide to cover things in the rain.

Well, only if you grew up in a weyr, I'd imagine. Given the superiority complex of traditional-traditional book-weyrs, I can't imagine them letting such a "special" thing out to the Holds.

Heheheheh I just had yet another slightly disturbing image:

It's summer, and the winds are picking up, and blowing pollen around.

No wait, that's shed skin bits from the Weyr. Nevermind.

That puts a whole new light on those piles of "dust" that collects in corners...

:x I wonder if there's like this slowly growing planet of dragon excrement from all of their Betweening, given that that'd be the only thing you'd probably have to shovel out of their weyrs!

Several of my pernese characters used that theory in their weyrling stage story. One of the dragons wouldn't even go between because she was worried it was just a world of dragon poo... ;)

You know, honestly, the pooping between thing really made me mad. I mean, you're removing energy from a closed system in the form of biomass that now won't ever be cycled back into the system. It's a net loss. That's a bad and incredibly short-sighted idea! No cookie for McCaffrey!

Yup, yet another "ignore it" feature. But still funny to have the dragons worried about :D

To my knowledge, she made the dragons poop between comment once as answer to a question. I'm under the impression she's later said she was joking. Soo... how canon that should be considered, is questionable.

I was looking for a size chart, reread this thread, and had a random thought - if they did relieve themselves between... where do the poor hatchlings go, before they start going between? XD

Makes you wonder wtf a Weyr would do with that stuff. Fertilize the feed for* their cattle? In their Weyrbowl? That would be unfortunate... I mean, carnivores tend to stink significantly more than herbivores.

Obviously a Weyrhold is the answer. Free fertilizer AND they're big enough to carry it/distribute it! Not to mention it's awesome potty training.

XD One of the favorite punishments for the WeyrlingMaster is to assign a weyrling to clean the weyrling barracks - until they learn to go between I can imange them simular to horses so, yeah...Read that a few places. XD Though I can see them using it as fertilizer - we do that with the horses...cheep black dirt for mom's garden. XD

Also, I think I do have the charts wrong if I go by the books I've been reading. Apparently, the dragons had nearly reached their true size by the beginning of the 3rd Pass. That would have been about 500 Turns later - which clould have been confused with the 5th Pass? I dunno...I may get ambitious and redo the chart and decide which one I like better. I can always make Syobeth 19'10" feet long and Mixuith a small bronze from that era. XD

Just had to mention that.
