I'm working on Falas (yay!) and the rider's index page (which is this page.

Now my questions is: What kind of information is useful for you for a quick-glance type thing. Reason I'm asking is because I was going to put what size range the dragons fall under and the "color class" (which is just niffty information I like to look at >.<Would>.<

Maybe one section based by size/rank and one by colour? This way if someone only knows the colour/name, they can still scroll and find the dragon they're looking for. If they're curious to know the dragon's position in the Weyr, however, they can still compare and contrast!

(Also, it looks like something weird happened with your first post. o.o Like part of it got eaten!)

For me personally, I made my tables have an additional area that says if they're chasing somewhere or not. That's out of laziness, though. ;) Means if I want to know that I don't have to look up each individual's page.

That's all. ;) I lose in table creativity!

Grr...it did eat a big portion of it.

Stupid.

Okay...fine...I'll try to remember the rest. XD

That was what I had at the time. It would be listed by rider name, which I think makes more sense then color, then name, since I'm going to put color size info there.

Rider: name of the rider and gender
Rank: rider's rank (or last known rank)
Dragon(s): there dragon's name, color, and gender
Color Class: what color there DNA says or what kind of rare they are (natural or genetic or magical)
Size Class: what size range they fall into
Flight Status: (for now) if they are available for flights

The last is a test idea to help people fill up flights and since I never know who to send or what-not, I though this was a good idea if you want to snag a dragon to put in the story for whatever reason (as long as you tell me you used them, even if they lost).

I think that was the basic jist of post. (and to prance-glee over my old riders finally getting faces...XD It's so wonderful seeing what they "really" looked like vs there previous portraits which weren't as original...Now you can all see what J'tha looked like! LOL)

Annnnnddd...HTML geniuses out there:
I need a code for the table to put a 1px black border around the table and create rows (like in the picture but without have to put in the lines everytime with another TD row. I know there is a way but nothing I try is working. I don't want to edit the CSS file because that is bound to ALLLL the rider's pages and I don't want the rows to show up there (unless you think it's easier to read with all those lines. XD)

Yeah, you kinda gave me that idea. XD Though I would just keep track of if people can snag them to fill a flight that's taking too long to fill and have a name of an actuall dragon to put in the story. Or they can win but I would prefer to work for a winning flight (and I don't think my dragons ever win 'cause I'm lazy. >.<)

lol, you could use the universal size chart for your sizes. X3 *pimps out* It's nice to have a standard across the Nexus!

XD Well, since the "standard" Pernese isn't on that chart...

I used my conversion factor here... I have no idea what the raito is and since I use length then to height...For the Pernese, there height is an average 28% there length. >.<

Gold: Medium (10'8" - 11'9")
Bronze: Medium (9'10" - 11'2")
Brown: Medium-Small (8'5" - 9'10")
Blue: Medium-Small (7' - 8'5")
Green: Medium-Small (5'7" - 7')
Sport: Small (4'2" - 5'7")

If anything, I can make a second column for the Universal Size...I just really don't send my Pernese dragons into Nexus places so I don't see a point. XD

Wow, just saying, that sample table you provided a link for looks amazing!

For my tables (I'm sure there's an easier way, I'm just lazy, again) I'd do one of two things if I want my tables to work differently on one page than another. For one, the independent style for tables is my personal fav. Some stick some of this junk:

table { border: 4px solid #512905;
font-family: Verdana;
font-size: 10px;
color: #266A26;
border-spacing: 0px;
margin-top: 0px;}
table TD { border: 1px solid #7F4D11; }

In the style header. ;) You're web savvy, I'm sure you know the drill! Putting them directly on the page intended for overrides the stylesheet, which I mention because I didn't know that before. On several pages I use more than one, with different classes for different tables. Or make a different stylesheet just for that page?

I hope that's helpful? Again, you have awesome layouts, so I imagine it's all old hat, but still. ;)

(Oh, and the sample I used was just ganked off my website, not altered to do what you want yet. :/ I don't really have a way to check and see if it works the way you want it to. But if you want more specific help I could try working with you on it? :) )

Thanks, Erinnyes...but that idea won't work 'cause the rest of the page is set in a table...>.< Of course, I could probably set up the div things to fix it. Heh...might try that. But thank you. XD

Glad you like...here's the "final":
Image

I'm hoping the icons for the Flight Thing make sense. "X" means you can't use them unless you ask and have a good reason (or they're dead and you simply can't use them, heh); a green check means you can use them but you need to tell me so I can record it; a check with the paper means you have to ask me to use them first but they're available; and, the one you can't see is a check with a small "X" over it means you can use them but they're probabaly a female who is sterile thus needs a fertility drug so you have to ask for her.

Make sense? Well, anyway, I need to go to bed. I'll argue with codes for a bit then get ready for another day in he...I mean, the "Wonderful Golden Arches"....urg...Yakima needs a new job before she kills someone...*headdesk*

Don't have much time before I have to take off to class, but let's see what I can explain.

Also, you'll probably have to fiddle with this some to get it to actually work. I'm lazy so a bunch of my assumptions are hard-coded into the html and css, so my pages don't dynamically resize very well at all (or my tables, at least).

In your CSS fille, make a new entry like ".listtable" with your desired changes then in {}, then in the table declaration do something like this:

Code: Select all

<table class="listtable">

and fiddle away. I've never had perhaps as much luck with that as I should have, but that's probably because when I first created all of my pages I was in a hurry and did a real kludge of a job.

EDIT: This is how kludge-y all my tables are:

Code: Select all

<div align="center"
<div class="hatchtable"
<TABLE border="1" width="600" bgcolor="#E0EEEE">
(with the > taken off because code seems to like to eat the align and class declarations otherwise)

with hatchtable defined as:

Code: Select all

.hatchtable {
	width: 600px;
	border-top: 5px solid  #87CEEB; /* skyblue */
	border-left: 5px solid  #87CEEB; /* skyblue */
	border-bottom: 5px solid  #F0F8FF; /* aliceblue */
	border-right: 5px solid  #F0F8FF; /* aliceblue */
}
