About Talis...

I'm thinking of running a Talis frenzy, so that people could collect the old images if they wanted to. Would you be interested in this, and send in Candidates for it if I set it up?

Yes I'd be interested, and I'd be willing to send in some Candidates for it.

I would be interested if you changed something about how you described it (let me know what that is!)

About Talis...

Post by Guest »

Ummm, so, with the new job giving me a reasonable slice of free time on my hands, plus with Geocities forcing me to move and update all of my files to a new server, it's been burning the back of my mind for a while now if I should attempt to re-open Talis Weyr. Granted, my track record hasn't been good. I think it's died a few times since I've run it, and for the most part I've done a terrible job of running it. And, I can't truthfully promise that there's no chance of me getting bored and closing it again, either... I figured I'd just be upfront on that, bad as it looks on me. :)

I guess I just wanted to gauge the interest level that people might have for it. People (in my perspective, anyway) seem to be growing a little tired of "traditional" Pern, so if I were to open a Weyr, would I be able to fill the clutches? I used to have a heck of a time, and I'm not sure what things are like now.

Well, I guess if I did open it back up, here are the things that people could expect from me:

1. New dragon images. I've grown to dislike looking at the old ones, LOL! This would mean that the old ones, if anyone wanted them, would be considered free domain and could be used by others for sister weyrs, if you wanted to. Here's a somewhat preview of what the new images might look like... Though these exact drawings were done for a clutch I participated in a year or so ago, and these EXACT images might not be the ones used. They're just meant to give an idea of what they'll look like.

<a href="http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/l ... e10012.jpg" target="_blank"><img></a>
(very rough sketches! And my friend's scanner ate some of it. But it's only meant to give an idea, anyway.)

2. Talis (if I continue to call it that, I'm considering renaming it for the same reason I'm doing new dragon images - tired of the old one) would remain a "traditional" Weyr. I'd be doing the original dragon colors (green, blue, brown, bronze, and gold), and probably not doing sports unless there's overwhelming demand for them. My reasoning is that if I'm making a Weyr, I'll remain true to the weyr colors, and if people request other original colors I will open something other than a Weyr, in place of or to run alongside it (though I don't have any plans for one right at the moment, it's just a possibility).

3. I'm considering the possibility of having a flurry/frenzy for all the people who were collecting the OLD Talis images? I know some of you do that and it'd be a way to get a better set before I switch to new ones. Would many people be interested in that? I'm putting up a poll for that, because if I get a lot of people that are into it that could be run immediately, or as soon as a make a page for it.

I guess that's it. I'd really like to hear people's thoughts on this, and I'm totally open to constructive criticism on anything about it, be it the images, the way I ran things, etc etc etc. :) So, y'know, lemme know!

I'm rather fond of the second image. I like the varying perspective on the tail and the slant of the wings. The first one seems more chunky around the midsection.

I know I've got at least one old Talis dragon. I'd love to throw her in for a flight. :) Time to get me back into the swing of things.

Yes! I always like collecting sets of the older Weyrs. And...I only have one Talis dragon (C'ryd and blue Bikanelth). ;) I'll try to get in at least one or two candidates, though I'm not sure I can promise much beyond a stat sheet; it depends on how the mood takes me. Anyway, I still have fondness for the traditional Weyrs and would be interested, whether or not I managed to actually finish candidates.

I would totally love to have a "set" of the originals!! *grabby hands*

I love the second image of those two sketches. I think it's more dynamic, I like the wing pose.

Well, the post was technically about re-opening my old adoption weyr, but since no one said anything about it I'm going to assume it's not something people are interested in right now. In any case, I'm putting together the frenzy now, since people seem to like that idea, and so if you want to think ahead and give me some links for chasers, I can go ahead and get those on a list. ;) I'll be taking about ten females and however many males (the assumption being not all of them will succeed in catching!). Color doesn't matter, and whether they're from Pern doesn't really matter, but I'd prefer Pernese since, y'know, that's what the offspring will be. ;)

Here's the page, just the bare essentials for now. I can't promise a unique story or theme right now, but if I get time I will write something!

If anyone wants to get ahead of things and start sending in Candidates, I'll take those too. :) But you'll have plenty of time, I don't forsee this closing for a month or so, to give everyone plenty of time.

I would honestly prefer Talis, actually. :( I like the name. Sounds a bit like Falas. LOL And I love the old Talis image but I like the second one you showed, too. (Of course, I'm one to complain about images chaning...>.< Not....not with the way I change mine every year or so. LOL)

Anyway, I want to send some dragons in for the Frenzy but...not sure who to send. I'll probably send in a few greens...probably some of Flynnth's produce since they don't need drugs for fertility. LOL

Funny, I need to scroll down on the main forum more often. I completely missed this. LOL
