Still Interest in Whiterock?

Post by Kitsuneko »

I'm wondering because things have been really slow the last couple days, or weeks, really. There's still an empty threadfall round that hasn't been touched in two days, and there's currently six candidates for a clutch of thirteen (it hatches tomorrow). At this rate, there's barely enough people participating regularly to make it worth keeping open, and most of them aren't part of the Nexus.
I don't want to sound like I'm whining, but I am curious and I'd like to know if there's anyone here still interested in Whiterock Weyr. Is it a loss of interest, or a lack of free time and you're still planning to come back eventually, etc. or what?
Darkling Dawn: Fauna Frenzy Open to candidates; flights open to males/females; rukel eggs/breedings available.
Drockh-Tallahn Castle: 3 eggs, 2 available. Females and males needed.
Sgiath Wolfkeep: 7 pups available
Sedona Weyr: 12 eggs, Deadline March 8. Chasers and a female needed.

Kinda lack of time for me (which is nearly a lie)... n_n

I have a very hard time tracking who I've app'd to fly and I always forget which threadfall they are flying in. So one thing led to another and I got really hesitant to submit dragons.

To be completely honest about sending in candidates, I just didn't want to fill out the questionnaire. And I felt that if I didn't take the time to fill that out , I didn't deserve anything from that clutch!

Definitely nothing you are doing wrong at all. I think since school just let out, people are working more for summer, its just the summer doldrums. There's a lot less "free time" and I assume a lot of the members are just busy with life.

I really love the concept of Whiterock, it really inspired me to broaden my thoughts on simple internet games.

I think it's a loss of interest on my part, unfortunately. After getting slammed with finals I never completely recovered... I didn't want to get more dragons when I had ones that I wanted to page first, but couldn't bring myself to page the ones waiting... *facepalm* I'm sorry, I know I dun bad. I don't think that I can promise that I'll come back, but since I seem to cycle through interests and hobbies, I may dive back in if it's still going.

(One thing that twigged me was the cap on thread-fighting. XD Picking who to send was a pain for me, and making sure that the round wasn't full -- when they filled up really fast, anyways -- was really frustrating. o.o)

This week for me has just been death to all free time. Other than that, I've been pretty active. I love the concept because it allows me to still participate with the little free time I get and I don't have to spend hours on a storyline I'm only partially happy with. :)

For me, it was a total lack of free time (the kidlets were "graduating" to kindergarten, and I had a ton of Department of Public Welfare paperwork to fill out. e_e ) and then I promptly got kicked in the head by my riders telling me that if I didn't fly them, they'd die of old age.

I think that decision, more than anything, kind of steered me away from wanting more to do with it. I can only play a thing if I have time to keep tabs on it, and with so /many/ threadfalls coming every week, I don't have time or inclination to keep it straight, so I kind of freeze at how /much/ happens. I can't keep track of who's flying what round where, and rather than mess up or miss where J. Random Dragon has died off, I'll stay over here and horde my pretties until it settles down again. And then the thought that doing that makes my pretties drop dead anyway so I may as well just start over when I have time? It really stings just thinking on it, and I don't want to be part of it. Which is annoying, because it's a fun little thing of chance and happenstance.

I had walked away because also a lot of the novelty had worn off for me, honestly, which isn't something that can be fixed by adding more novelty (except in the case of the questionairre. There's only so many times I can answer the same questions, and I /love/ surveys. >_>; ). It has just enough that the game's not gimmicky, but by the same hand, I needed to walk away from it to want it back.

And then I wanted it back and my wireless card dropped dead. *FACEPALM!*

Aww, well it's well over two years of real time before they start dying off, but I think I can understand where you're coming from there. And I've been meaning to add different questions to the form and mix it up from time to time to help with the monotony, I just haven't been able to think of any good questions, though I can see where that gets tiring as well. I just don't think there's a whole lot I can do to change it.
A question (this'll probably end up being a poll later on): do you think a forum would be easier to keep track of what's going on, or would it just be a different set of problems?

I've played the NRBC, which was a forum-based adoption/RP/battling thing and effing awesome, for a good number of years before Indy put it on hiatus, and so I know there's a great potential for success to be had there. I think it'd be easier, maybe, for people to remember what they were doing with their dragons, where they were flying, etc. For me, seeing a moving list of like five threadfalls in rotation or something with clearly marked 'open' and 'closed' tags, just all grouped together, I think it'd be more user-friendly.

And then you have options for RP if you want to take it there (I think you had cited that at the beginning as a possibility), and maybe a discussion forum, I don't know. I know the general feeling on the internet right now is "I don't want to make people sign up for /ANOTHER/ another forum, e_e;" but I think Whiterock might ought be considered for it.

That's totally just my opinion. I have a tendency to see things as getting very big, and your concern is that it's shrinking. Take it with a grain of salt. *shrug*
