Question about the Victory Dance

Post by Mystic Dragon »

Some of you are probably going "woah! That's old news!" at that topic line. Yes, it is old. And I feel horrible for not getting this done sooner. The problem is that it was larger than I thought it would be, I didn't get near enough candidates, and by the time I'd started it, I was getting into some pretty heavy work at school. I don't even know if I still have all the images. :(

But seeing as it's floating through my head once more, I've got a question for you guys. I'm proposing a new take on the Victory Dance. One that will (hopefully) allow me to get it all written and out come this summer.

We've always done clutches a specific way. You write stories, you send them in, you get surprised with a dragon. Well... what if we do it the other way around? I'll write an intro story, put up links to ALL the dragons I've gotten for the Dance, and then you guys can write short stories for any of the dragons that catch your eye. My hope is that there won't be any duplicates given that there's so many of them. And previously submitted candidates (if there are any remaining) will get first pick.

Of course, this is all contingent on several conditions. First and foremost; that I find an uploading program which I can work easily and that I don't have to pay for. Secondly, that I complete my degree and find a job without going crazy and moving to Antartica. Thirdly... that I don't forget. >.> But I got you guys to remind me! Right? :D

Anyway, give me your feedback. That'll determine what happens this summer.

I like the idea of it. Sounds interesting, actually.

I need to make sure Tansei and her father have their stories upped somewhere, since those were the two who were going that I had in mind when this first started.

:( No time for writing stories right now (I don't know why I'm bothering with xeno-stuff when it's getting in the way of my homework! DX) but if it's an ongoing thing perhaps I could write up some candidates over a period of time and pop them off during the summer!

I'd like to see the Victory Dance to its end. XD

I would love anything for the Victory Dance. The site's gone, or at least, it's got no index any more, so ?

I'm good for whatever happens. I've also still got all my premade dragons, so if you need them again I can always put them on my photobucket.

I know my sole candidate had "dibs" on one of Dray's dragons by our joint agreement of being a splendid match, so I'd thrill to see the Dance go out in any form just for that. XD Having additional dragons available to browse would also be awesome--having a goal to guide a story towards works wonders.

I'm in the same boat as Dray. No time for stories as I try to get updated with Treval characters I so terribly owe people. But if any catch my eye, I might go for them/it. :P I also have no problem having to do images again if I have to.

Also, are you looking for an FTP type thingy? The one I use is free and works just fine. *shrug* It's called FTP Surfer.

Remember, this wouldn't be happening til summer. I'm not expecting epic tales either. :P Just who the character is, how they got to the Warren, and what dragon they impress. Little less than an essay, little more than a stats sheet.

Yeah, I am. I had Smart FTP, but it's pay-per-use now. I'll check out FTP Surfer. Thanks!

I think a part of my problem is that I'm getting to the point where I feel like the dragons that I'm getting have little value anymore -- the 'just write a drabble, put the dragon up, and that's it!' bit is definitely convenient, but since I've got so many floating in random space without a purpose already, I feel a little bad for collecting more. >.>" When I had a list that I could pick through for breedings, again, it was nice... but I have so many and in such a variety right now that I could probably breed any two together and get something completely different. XD I'm not saying this is a -bad- thing necessarily... but it does put a crimp on that initial "GLEE GETTING NEW DRAGONS!" thing that I had when I first joined the Nexus. I need to... disappear and tell everyone they can have their dragons back and then start over as a new person or something. Well, maybe not -that-, but I've got to think of something that I can do to make the candidate writing process feel more meaningful!

:P Do that and I hurt you. We lurvs our Dray.

I understand where you're coming from though. I remember I used to check adoption sites religiously in hopes that a new clutch or new candidates would show up. The problem is that we've mostly grown up and entered school, and therefore don't have the time we used to. We've done the Weyr thing, the stats page thing, the breeding thing, and everything in between. If you've got an idea for something new then I'd love to hear it. That's what I'm kind of trying to do with the V Dance now.

I figured it might give people a little more to work with. Get inspiration from the dragon you want! I remember part of the hook that got me into dragon adoption was seeing a dragon I /wanted/ and doing all I could to get it.

Need your help guys. I have found an FTP program that I can use with ease to get into my site again. Now I have the long, arduous process of moving all my old pages over to this site because Geocities is closing down. In hopes of kick starting my desire to get back into things, I want to take another crack at the Victory Dance.

I have uploaded /all/ the current images on my hard drive of the dragons I've received for this event. Many of the artists who put them in are now gone. As are all the links to the candidates that had been submitted. I need:

1) People to look through the directory and tell me which images are their's and if they're still up for adoption in the V Dance.

2) Suggestions on what I should do with the images that no longer have artists to approve them. I'm thinking of adopting them out anyway, but I need your input.

3) Emails containing images that /are/ supposed to be in the V Dance but are not on the site, in case I've misplaced anyone's dragons. It's been a while.

And for the record, I'm showing you guys all the images for a reason. I have a new idea for candidate submission that I'm going to try out. I have hinted at it on this page before, so it shouldn't be too big of a surprise.

You'll need the link, won't you? Here it is! http://dragonseye.dragonbackdesign.com/victory_dance/

I know it's a lot to go through, but any help you guys can offer would be great.

All of mine are still up for adoption, of course! (Though it looks like they're gone from your page. :\ If that's the case, I don't think I have them anymore, since that was an -old- sketchbook!)

I think it's fair to adopt out the images that don't have owners here to vouche for them anymore -- it's not like, just before they left, they said, "and nobody touch my v-dance drawings, Mystic!" -- it'll be like a blast from the past, receiving art that's become rarified without it also be stealing from already adopted-out dragons. XD

Crap! D: I'm sorry, Dray. I must've lost them in the switch between laptops. I have no idea of where to even look for them anymore. I'm really really sorry. :(

I have better/different images for you now, Mystic. I'll redo them. I would also like to change some of the colors for the Pernese ones, if that's okay, using the genetic code system I have now. But, I'm still here and mine are all still available.

EDIT: well, the gryphons don't need to be changed, but Lyraeth, Flynnth and Nysheth do. Are we allowed to switch parents? I would kinda like to switch Flynnth and Nysheth out for various reasons but if not, that's fine. :P

>.> I know I, myself, have Dray's Io Selamputo's image saved. Since I, well, couldn't wait to get that one officially, eager beaver that I was XD. And I KNOW I saw the others of that clutch online somewhere -- I wish I could remember where! Though it was probably some temporary directory, I bet. Hrmph.

Fine with me, Yakima. :) I have the pairing list, but not the list of which offspring belongs to which parents. Changing it around won't bother me at all. Just email me the images when you're done and tell me which ones stay and which ones go.

If you could send that along to me, Phe, I could make it offical for you. :D I felt terrible when I realized I couldn't find that one anymore. I know you guys had some awesome stuff planned for them.

>.> Dray, can I apologize again with a fluffy donkey-dragon?

Now I remember! There were a few people who did up the stats and pages for me, so I didn't bother saving them. I think Ty had some like that too. I also remember being desperately in love with that Sola dragon. >.> *steals her and runs off*

*ahem* Anyway, thank you again! This time I'll save them /and/ link the page.

I feel like I missed a huge part of this clutch, so I'm a little confused. However, if you want me to draw up any missing E.S. babies just let me know.

I remember it being mentioned a lot, but I went on hiatus before any candidate/offspring work was done. Either way, let me know if I can do anything to help get it back up and rolling!
