((Hum hum... *peers around the group* >.> TAG SIL!))

Zhar could feel her nerves jittering up and down her body. Her hands shook, even though the knuckles had turned white from the death grip she had on her pendant. The sand was suddenly ten times hotter beneath her leather slippers, and every uneven space felt like a mountain beneath her soles. She could sense the tension in the air, both her own and that of the people around her. Some seemed perfectly at ease in this other worldly place. However, the hatchlings looked (for the most part) just as nervous as she was.

A daring youngster snuck up behind one of his siblings and gave the wide-eyed hatchling a jarring nudge with his shoulder. While he slunk off snickering, she yelped and jumped forward, gaining a whole foot of ground on the candidates.

It was difficult to say who was more startled by this occurance; the hatchling, or the young woman whom she had nearly colided with. Both let out meeps of surprise and danced backwards into their respective groups.

Zhar felt her shoulder collide with the body of another candidate.

"S- Sorry!" She was muttering before so much as turning around. She took a step forward to separate them again and cast her eyes on the ground. The tear-shaped crystal pressed a sharp line into her thumb as she gave it an anxious twist. "I'm sorry. I wasn't watching where I was stepping."

(( DNS: I added one line of conversation from January if that's okay with you. It just made this a whole lot easier for me. Tell me if by any chance I need to fix anything. ))

Xhira nodded in response to January. "I'm Xhira Uena'Aisi. Pleased to meet you."

"Never thought I'd be so happy to see my own brother," November chuckled. "Are you with December?"

January shook his head. "She dropped me off here, and left shortly afterward."

"Ah." November sighed. She'd kind of been hoping to meet up with a few more of her siblings, but for now, January would have to do.

Xhira Uena'Aisi looked at January. He reminded her very much of November, except for the colouration - which was only right considering they were brother and sister - but somehow she just couldn't get over the fact that she had so many relations in so many places. Her father was quite the busy dragon, if she could say so herself.

"You two look... very much alike," Xhira found herself blurting, for lack of a better thing to say.

"Duh," November smiled. "We're siblings, Xhir. You look like your sisters and brothers, I bet."

"Yes, indeed." Xhira shook her head, trying to clear her mind of embarassment.

"Anyway, January," November addressed her brother. "We're actually here because my sister messed up a teleportation..."

Xhira looked at her half-sister. "November..."

"Never mind. But we were wondering if you perhaps had any idea of where the hell we are?"

"Language, November!" Xhira scolded.

"The word 'hell' is not a swear, Xhira. Lighten up."

((XP that's fine. It's something he would've said, and doing that saved time.))

January nodded to Xhira, watching their exchange with something akin to amusement. "Technically, I'm your brother too." he said, quietly, bowing his head. "pleased to meet you, Xhira. As for where you are... You're in Mirus. There's a bonding about to occur.." He paused at this, casting a glance to the nervous dragonets, who were just as bad in their anxiety as quite a few of the candidates. He looked at them sympathetically for a minute more, bowing his head to them, before turning back to his sisters. "if the dragonets can get over their anxieties, that is. You hadn't meant to come here? Perhaps it is a lucky accident, then, and you can stick around." there was a note of hope in his voice-- familiar things were /good/, and having his sisters around would be comforting.

Zialana watched the glowy-draconic siblings with a smile. It was strange, she thought, that they were all named after months like that. She supposed it wasn't that strange, though. Why did her own race, after all, have first names that began with the letter Z, and last names that were astronomical objects not even seen in this galaxy? The universe, she thought, may never know. She thought naming conventions were interesting, though. Like old world dragons, and how their names always ended in th. Why? Did it matter? She supposed that was just the way things were.

She looked over at the nervous hatchlings, and wondered if anyone would want to choose her. She already had a bond. She wasn't sure she wanted another. But they were beautiful dragons, every single one of them. And what she could use now, she thought, was a friend. She was very lonely on this world where she didn't know anyone ... Darkness, but she was glad that 'Sati had showed up. But there they were, Petasati Promontores and Zialana Taurus, two strangers on a completely alien world. Zodiac had bonded here, the first time, she remembered that much. She wondered if anyone here would know Zodiac.

"You really ought to make conversation with some of the other candidates if you're so worried about it," Petasati suggested.

"I suppose," Zialana agreed. Her social skills weren't the best but if she was to make it on her own without the government watching her every move she was going to have to get better at it. She approached the group of glowy-dragons, and their friend, the one called Xhira, and smiled in what she hoped was a friendly fashion.

"You guys mis-teleported here? I crash-landed, but I think I know where we are. It's ... it's called Mirus."

And then she poked at the sand a bit, hoping that she didn't sound like too terribly much of an idiot.

Captured off-guard, Shael stumbled as Zhar collided with him, his lips parting in an expression of shock. As the young woman apologized hastily however, he focused more on righting himself, fidgeting with his long rank-marked coat.

"It's fine," Shael said quickly, his voice sounding a bit hoarse as though from disuse. There was also a crackling quality to it, perhaps from the small device attached to the collar of his coat. A translator, perhaps? It was imperfect, however, slurring his accent and working heavily on the vowels.

"Quite alright," the young man murmured again, glancing over the earth-witch as she stood twisting the pendant. His voice was soothing, despite the translator-given affect and slur. An easy, smooth tenor. "No harm done, just a little off-balanced is all."

He tried to smile at Zhar, but it slipped somewhat, perhaps out of discomfort. By the Sky Mother, though... He might have been confused and not exactly wishing to be present, but he could be civil. Yes? It wasn't as though she'd done anything wrong.

Zhar smiled nervously and dipped her shoulders in an awkward curtsey. Though she had technically turned around to face him, her eyes were still plastered on the sand. She had been the town's personal and revered witch for years, but the slightest foreign situation and she was reverting back to the age-old habits her mother had instilled in her. A part of her inner extrovert balked at the idea.

"I'm usually not this clumsy." She went on to explain, finding a need to cover up her bumbling actions with stumbling words. "Really, it's just the atmosphere here. Everyone's so... so..."

The words failed her. All the different energies being thrown about the air made her own a jumbled mess of knotted threads. Just like her stomach.

The time mage watched almost wistfully as person after person, or was it creature after creature when dealing with dragons was involved, seemed to run into someone they knew. Kinda made those ever present nerves intensify. He really didn't like that, mainly because he wasn't used to dealing with nervousness. Back home he didn't have to be, because he was known to some extent. Here... There was only the small group from Carodos that had come with him, three of the four who had disappeared from the crowds not too long ago.

"Where, pray tell, has Remus gone now?" Lisone couldn't help but mutter under his breath. But Nyatia caught the words easily.

"You know Remus," she chuckled, draping her tail around his neck for support. "Here one second, off gods know where the next."

"You seem used to it," Lisone grumbled.

"Ah, but I tend to be near them often enough. Who do you think pointed out what happened involving Atiasay? She wouldn't let Makani or Kaleto close enough to help Remus..."

The memory of that hatching actually made him shiver just the tiniest bit. One of the candidates had been bitten by Atiasay, if he remembered right, and Remus had to be kept from the sands for weeks until the mother Kilamdiry could calm down from his 'attack', which had turned out to be nothing more than him being himself.

"Nyatia, do you think that... the mother dragon here will hurt people if they act like Remus did around Atiasay and the hatchlings?" This was said while he watched the antics of the small dragons.

"No. Most dragons are more used to humans, and thus... you get this," she chuckled.

---------

"Kathamus!" Remus cheered when the L'meridii came close enough. Always the affectionate man, he threw his arms around the other and gave him one of his patented hugs. Well, it should at least have been registered as potentially lethal. Kaleto actually, albeit gently, head butt Remus from the side to get his bond to release Kathamus.

"Oh, sorry Kaleto. Hugging people too hard again?" he asked, laughing and toying with a particularly vivid piece of red in his neon-pastel rainbow hair.

And then some, the dragon sighed. Remus never really got it. He had been a warrior, and killed Slirvorm and Egsu. Sometimes the man didn't know his own strength.

Kathamus could handle it, Makani chuckled. In fact, he should be used to it by now.

The other dragon shook his head and watched Remus instead. Apparently he wasn't paying attention to them at the moment.

"I'm doing wonderfully Kathamus. Fort Vesire, I finally got there after I got Makani and Kaleto. There wasn't anything there though... Just an old empty fort in the mountains. But, I cleaned the place up with some help. I'm actually in charge there at present. We actually had our own hatching just a week ago. Got scratched by the mother, but they were the CUTEST little things."

At this point he was grinning. Apparently with age he only started to ramble more. Who knew, maybe being around his dragons only made him MORE outgoing, scary as the thought was. "Oh, and I've got this cute little rukel now, a phoenix called Nyatia. She's with Lisone. Oh, but you don't know him. He's the reason we're here. Escorting the guy to his bonding. Well, we hope he bonds. He's so nervous. But, yeah, that sums it up. Not here to bond myself. I don't think Kaleto could handle taking care of another one like us, right Makani?"

The turquoise furred dragon chuckled and playfully pushed Remus with his paw. Kaleto merely rolled his eyes.

((Okay, think I've got a handle on what's going on now... *jumps in to the fray* XD ))

It seemed to Manae that there wasn't a single candidate on the sands who didn't have someone to talk to and this brought on contradictory emotions in her. She was naturally nervous, this was not only the first hatching she'd attended but also the first time she'd been off world. She wished she had someone to talk to, to ease her nerves but at the same time the thought of having to actually /meet/ a stranger set her to fidgetting.

Fidgetting however, was quite the understatement for what Manae was actually doing. The Hyuorpin was continuously shifting from her natural Hyuorpin form to her human form and back again. Her forms were similar in color, white skin, bright yellow and orange hair. In human form her arm hairs were the same color as the hair on her head just like the short thin fur that coated her Hyuorpin form, giving her a an irridescence that almost seemed to glow from the right angles.

On top of the shifting she was doing, whenever she settled in Hyuorpin form for more than a moment her wings, which she had folded against her back, would rustle which generally caused such a clatter as the spars knocked together, that she would jump in fear of calling attention to herself and shift to human form. This was no better however because she was not fully comfortable in her human form, nor very practiced in it and so the effort of maintaining this form was usually too much for her overtaxed mind and she would slip back into Hyuorpin form without really realizing it until the clattering of her wings again roused her to shift.

Candidates standing behind her had to take care for her tail when she was in Hyuorpin form as well for it whipped back and forth hard enough to leave quite a bruise should it come in contact with anyone.

(( XD Poor Manae...I hope she doesn't hurt anyone, including herself!))

"...Different," Shael finished off for Zhar, his words crackling a little as the translator did its work. "I agree, entirely. I have to wonder why I'm even here." The young man frowned, looking away from Zhar and about the others for a moment before back to the witch.

"Why are you here?" His tone was conversational, perhaps something she would say would help him solidify just what he himself was doing in this place.

Zhar felt the blood rush to her cheeks the longer she stood here talking to this man. Her skin prickled and the itchy heat around her neck and scalp intensified. She was so unaccustomed to talking to strangers, let alone strange men with oddly distorted voices. The people in her village, for whom she had been working for the past few decades, were the same people she had grown up with. There had been no strangers until the dragons arrived.

"Well..." She said awkwardly, twisting the thin, metal chain of her necklace between her fingers. "I- I wanted to try something new. I thought... maybe... if I became a dragon rider, witches would get a little more recognition on Tris'Hath."

She continued to stare at the ground with a stoney mask to guard her face. Her shoulders screamed in protest from the prolonged act of stretching the muscles of her neck, but she daren't look up.

((Xalia! one of the other candidates is paying attention to Manae :O)

The glowie dragons seemed to be interested in their own conversation, so Zialana shrugged and moved on. Her eyes caught a very nervous looking shifter-type, who seemed to be jumping between forms at will.

"Why does she do that?" asked Petasati, who was remaining in her pale white little-girl form, finding it much more maneuverable than her larger draconic self in the crowded hatching caverns.

"Don't know," Zialana said. "She looks nervous. Suppose we ought to say hello?"

Petasati shrugged noncomittally, so Zialana approached her. She imagined that if Zodiac were here she'd be practically thrust into the conversation.

"Hi!" she said, extending her hand for the poor shifter. "My name's Zialana. What's yours?"

Manae stopped shifting as she was approached by Zialana. In Hyuorpin form she was about 6 feet tall and she looked at the young woman extending her hand and lashed her tail nervously, wings still rattling fit to drown out all the surrounding noise.

"I'm Manae..." she said hesitantly, eyeing the hand in front of her as if not sure what to do with it. Belatedly she remembered that humans liked to shake hands and skittishly oferred her own two fingered one.

"Witches?" Shael asked curiously, flint grey eyes returning to Zhar from their travels about the room. The young man frowned a moment, shifting his stance and bringing up his hands to clasp behind his back. Leather of his marked coat bunched up around him as he did so.

Witches...he couldn't really put anything with that word, and for a moment unclasped a hand and reached up to tap the translator. It was garbled, perhaps? It had sounded like...well, it wasn't quite right. Experimentally he opened his mouth, awkwardly rolling off the word in his own language.

"Priests," the translator crackled in Shael's voice, more clearly than the feedback it had given him from Zhar. "Odd thing to do, for a priestess... Go off to another place to become a...dragonrider?"

He'd understood that, at least the words, but the concept was foreign to him. True, he had seen folk at the Ring of Fire riding them on occasion...but just what did a dragonrider do?

"Oh no no no..." Zhar shook her head vigerously, the shock of his implications hitting hard enough to make her forget her manners momentarily. She snapped her head up, fixing her eyes on his frightfully. "Not a priestess. I could never be a priestess. Mother said that only outcasts and inbreds become mages. That is... not to say that Her Grace is an inbred." She rolled her lower lip beneath her teeth, gnawing on the flesh as her anxiety grew.

Zhar felt it was time to move away from the topic of her witchcraft. "I... um... I've never really been away from home before. But I knew this was where I belonged. I can't ignore the signs."

Again the translator didn't quite communicate a clear concept to Shael, he frowned. Mages? He understood what 'inbred' and 'outcast' were, but not quite whatever a 'mage' was. Instead he just filed it away as something that wasn't "right", since it didn't quite make sense to him.

"I see," he said to Zhar, nodding stolidly. In a way...neither had he. Never been off his own little world, though he'd been away from the place he had been born. "It is...it is tough, to go away for the first time," he continued, hesitating on the words and seeming slightly confused. "But...everyone has to leave eventually, right?"

He could remember when he'd left his own home for the first time, to join his country's navy... Back then he'd been a nervous child of only sixteen. It seemed so long ago... But he'd not really been too different from Zhar, he supposed, nervous and afraid of everyone.

Zhar was very confused for a moment. She knew her mother had been born and grown up in the same small town as herself. And her mother before that. In fact, the town rarely recieved any new bloodlines. Desipte her mother's less than stellar opinion of inbreds, most of the townsfolk were inbred to a degree.

"Um... yeah." She said with a start, realizing belatedly that she had been staring. Now that the initial barrier had been broken, she didn't feel a pressing urge to stare at her feet again. She hadn't had a chance to buy new clothes before leaving for this strange world, so the ones she had on were as old and ratty as they came. Her mother didn't see much reason in throwing out clothes before they had literally fallen off the wearer. Which was odd when Zhar gave it a moment's though, given her mother was always dressed in fine velvet dresses with jewels in her hair.

"Yeah." She said with more confidence in her voice. "Everyone has to leave eventually. I... I guess... I was meant to go a little farther than other people."

The shifter seemed terrified, so Zialana gave what she hoped was a calming smile. "This is my bond, Petasati," she said, introducing her to the air/light hybrid avengaean.

"Hi there," Petasati said, shaking her hand. "You seem nervous. Is this your first time on the hatching sands?"

Manae nodded and looked around warily. "My first time off-planet..." she mumbled, snatching her hand back as soon as it was released. She shifted again, but once again the human form didn't 'stick' and she reverted back to Hyuorpin form. Then she seemed to really comprehend what Zialana said and she took in the two with new interest. "Wait, you're already bonded?"

Zialana chuckled. "Yes well I sort of ended up here by accident ... I crash landed on this planet and I was really just looking for a phone I could use. They asked me if I was a candidate and I didn't know what they meant so I just went with it. But ... I'm hoping to sponsor, actually, though Petasati here wouldn't mind too badly if I was bonded a second time."

"As long as the new dragon is useful," Petasati interjected with a wink, as she looked out at the little kits who seemed to be sniffing, semi-interested, among them, and wondered what possible purpose they would all end up growing up to serve. That was how Petasati was, very practical like that.

"So," Zialana said, "What brings you to the hatching grounds of Mirus?"

The lashing of Manae's tail slowed gradually as she spoke, but her wings continued to rattle loudly. She looked perplexed by their responses but glanced sideways at Zialana's question. "I...well, I ran away from home. And then I was sent here..." She trailed off, eyes caught by the hatchlings milling around and her tail lashed hard just once as she watched them nervously.

((Sorry for delay, all...))

The young dragons seemed to reach a consensus amongst themselves, and the group heaved as one, shoving one of their number out into the open. He looked back at the others, his expression one of definite disgruntlement, before shifting his gaze towards the crowd with distinctly worried looking bright blue eyes. After a another moment or two, however, he pulled himself to his feet and headed towards them, the first of the kits to brave the crowd of strangers.

He was a vividly hued young dragon, being a very bright yellow colour with scales, feather and fur tips of a brilliant orange hued copper. Compared to the rest of his body, his dark silver wingsails, headcrest and tail-thing were rather drab. But undoubtedly, this kit was one of the more brightly coloured ones. He orientated straight towards Remus, who was still engaged in the activity of hugging poor Kathamus, who really hadn't done anything quite so bad as to deserve such a fate...

"What are you hugging him for? Hug me! Hug Kotori Syaess!" the vividly coloured kit insisted, butting Remus with his head to get attention.

As if spurred on by the actions of Kotori, a couple of the other kits staggered forward as well. One of these was a small, delicate little male who was a perfect, soft white colour with coppery scales and feathers. He seemed uncertain, looking around worriedly at the crowd, and then back at his siblings, before skittering off towards the side of the Nest where there were some familiar faces.

He stopped in front of his father, Mehari, and then looked up at him for a moment, before shifting his attention to the one next to Mehari. "Are you my uncle? You look like daddy, except you're blue," he asked, gazing up at Amori Syaess, who was indeed his uncle. "I think I like you. My name's Kaveno Syaess."

-Almost forgot about her...-

Kajin jerked up suddenly, realizing that she had nearly fallen asleep waiting for the kits to start bonding.
'Whoops, that was a little of me.' She thought to herself. 'Almost missed the bonding...'
Some of the kits had bonded already, but the majority had not yet. She stood up and dusted herself off, then she watched the kits and hoped one would come her way.

~Whoopsys~

Wakada watched as the babys made their way around to some of the other candidates. "I must have spaced out for a moment." she said shaking her head. She walked a bit watching the little hatchlings to see if any would catch her eye or if any would even come to her.

((hee! They look absolutely lovely, shio, congrats to the two lucky owners~))

Nothing particularly special happened when the first of the dragonets was pushed by it's brethren out of the pen, and nothing particularly special marked it's bonding, either, except perhaps some altered sound around the hatching cavern, that vioshas and january didn't pick up right away.
Sigbjorn, however, had trained his eyes carefully on the dragonets, watching them carefully, and he did not miss the first little creature when it was pushed from the group. He smiled slightly at it's disgruntled expression, and watched it trudge across the sands, giving the hint of a smile once more when it announced itself to one of the other candidates. Another dragonet looked to be following it's example, and he turned to exchange a glance with Vioshas--- except vioshas hadn't noticed yet. He was still staring off into space, evidently lost in the trance he alwas fell into whenever he was compiling lyrics.
Sigbjorn made a noise of exasperation, and then hit him in the side, earning a mildly hurt glance. "Watch, you idiot." Sigbjorn replied, coldly, motioning towards the group of dragonets.
Vioshas did so, turning his eyes first to the huddled group, and did so in time to watch the soft white baby bond to it's uncle. Vioshas smiled at this, and shook himself firmly, getting the half-strung lyrics out of his head. Now was not the time to loose himself in an artistic trance.. now was the time to concentrate, both in hopes that he would go home with one of furred and scaled babies, and perhaps file away what he saw for later, when it was indeed time to fall the afforementioned sort of artistic trance.
January noticed the hatchlings last of all the mindspace residents, as his back was turned to the dragonets as a whole. He'd been busy watching his siblings. The change in the noise what was alerted him-- different sorts of excited voices, some hushes over places, and normal convorsation in yet others. He craned his head curiously over his shoulder, and squeeked quietly when he noticed what was happening, and, worse, that he hadn't noticed it earlier. He sidled to the side, so that he could watch both his siblings and the dragonets.
He was excited now, both with his own feelings and htose he was catching off of everyone else. His glows were even slightly more raised than usual. "Good luck" he offered to the others.
