Mirus One Year (And A Bit) Anniversary Roleplay Bonding

Post by Shiolar »

Well, it's finally time to get this moving, I think.

As I said before, everybody is welcome to join in with as many or as few characters as they like. This isn't a hatching, since these dragons are liveborn, but rather a bonding. It's held in the Mirus Fortress, namely in the series of caves that is the Nests quarter. Basically, a large tunnel, magically lighted, that runs around in a broad circle.

In the middle of this circle is a big cavern that is Nest 1, and it's here that the parents of these dragons, Fidena Ventul and Mehari Syaess, are currently residing with their offspring. There's space enough for plenty of people to go in, both to bond and to spectate, and there's room for maybe another three or four adult dragons in addition to the parents; others will have to just poke their heads in through the entrance. Because of this, only dragons who wish to bond can enter Nest 1 at this time.

There's one entrance into this cavern, which exists out into the circular tunnel. Along the outside of the circle are other caverns, Nests 2 through 10, but these currently lie empty.

The Rules:

1. Characters must be sentient. Other than that, no restrictions apply, although if they're not capable of caring for a dragon themselves, they should have access to someone who can help them with that, while their bond is young.

2. Characters don't have to have a page yet, although it's cool if they do. If they don't, they should get a page, along with their dragon, within two weeks of the end of this roleplay.

3. Mostly, these dragons will be bonding, so keep that in mind with regards to who you bring into this roleplay. There'll be a few that sponsor, and if you'd prefer your character sponsors rather than bonds, please let me know before joining, and provide a good reason. Sorry, but I'd really prefer that the majority of these bond.

4. The owners and artists of the parents of these dragons are entitled to one of the offspring regardless of whether they join the roleplay or not. If they join, they're entitled to an extra one, unbonded and sponsored at their agency, if they wish. Or whatever works, you know. The people entitled to this are Dray, JKatkina and TyGryph.

5. Everybody who joins will get a dragon, one for each character. You don't get to pick the colours, but you are welcome to say if there's anything you really don't want. For reference, the colours you can expect to see are: white, yellow, grey, silver, copper, and blue. Shades will vary from pale to normal, with some dark ones and some really bright ones.

6. Standard roleplay rules apply. No playing someone else's character, but feel free to use an NPC Mirus Fortress human. They have no names, no defined personalities, so if you need an NPC, just create one. There'll be some of my characters hanging around too.

7. I'm not gonna say a blanket no to god-moding, given how many powerful abilities our characters have, but don't go insane. There shouldn't be too much fighting anyway, though, because anyone who tries will get liberally blasted by Ketrenal's Holy magic. And the half-Asandus babies wouldn't like it.

8. There's two stages for these dragons, being a youth image and an adult image. You get the youth image when your character bonds, along with stats. Adults will go out a couple weeks after the roleplay finishes.

9. Have fun.

Now, as a preview of one of the babies, although not specifically one of the images that will be given out:

Image
I currently have six coloured and ready, but I'll do more as they're needed. No limits to how many join this roleplay, and you're welcome to roleplay amongst yourselves if you wish.

For reference, the parents of these dragons are located at:
Fidena Ventul: http://dracothrope.lmfao.org.uk/Bonds/a ... htm#fidena
Mehari Syaess: http://shiolar.merseine.nu/mirus/mehari.htm
A full pedigree will be provided later on, once I get to it.

Now, I'm gonna post an introduction a bit later on, but feel free to read all this and start posting character stats with the following form:

Your Name: Astra
Character Name: Zialana Taurus
Page (if up): http://www.moon-struck.net/draco_prime/zialana/
Gender: female
Species: Znorlian
Homeworld: Znorlia (but has lived in space for years)
Comments: Zia is currently up for bonding at the Abstract Destiny. I'm creating a weird disturbance in the space time continuum in order for this to happen :P I'm not altogether averse to Zia bonding more than once though a sponsor might be more convenient to the dragons themselves, but ultimately I have no real preference.

I have never seriously role played before so this should be fun/scary. Also I'll warn you now that school NEEDS to come before the nexus this year so I will try my best to post regularly but if I begin holding up the whole thread or whatever or, conversely, ignoring homework in order to RP Zia on Mirus, then she might become, uh, mysteriously kidnapped or something, and have to leave the RP. I will do my best to avoid that situation however ^_^

Hmm... okay. New character, specifically created for this RP. And a class I haven't written before! Yay!

Your Name: Mystic Dragon
Character Name: Zharerithia Damaskis
Page (if up): none yet
Gender: female
Species: human
Homeworld: Tris'Hath
Comments: Zhar is an earth-based witch. She cannot use powerful magic, or even written spells commonly associated with sorcerers or mages. Her magic lies in the natural energies of the world around her. She can manipulate lay lines, mix herbal elixers, and use spiritually embued items to determine future events. Witches aren't too well liked on Tris'Hath, both for their magical abilities and their lack of magical abilities (depending on where one lives). Seeking a change in the hum-drum pace of life, Zhar has sought out the Warren (and through it, this clutch) for something different.

All right! I'll give you Xhira and November for this (I <3 them both, and it looks like November will meet her brother too).

Your Name: Molly/Starburst

Character Name: Xhira Uena'Aisi

Page (if up): http://www.mysticalplace.com/genproj/november.html
Gender: Female
Species: Dragon Mutt
Homeworld: Kalyturn's Hybridization Center (Clutch 2). Lives at Starburst.

Comments: Xhira is the caretaker of November (the two are half-sisters, same father) - and considering that November's brother is coming too, who knows what'll happen. As long as Nessie is thinking what I'm thinking at this point, there'll be fun.

And now to get this moving. People are still welcome to join in now, even if the roleplay has started. It's gonna be fairly slow paced, so don't worry about holding it up.

~~~~~~~~~
It wasn't exactly customary for there to be many dignitaries at a bonding, so this was looking to be a fairly quiet affair. Well, aside from all the Candidates, anyway, of which there were a fairly surprising number of adult dragons. Just how they were all going to fit inside Nest 1 was something Kathamus had been wondering for the last fifteen minutes or so. It was the largest of the Nests, but even so, it seemed as if things would be getting a little cramped.
They hadn't really anticipated the enthusiasm for dragons bonding to other dragons when they'd built the Fortress, and that was causing problems now. Possibly, in the long run, some extensive reconstruction work was going to be required. And then the mountain would fall down on their heads. Kathamus was certain there had been a good intention behind building an entirely subterranean Fortress, but he couldn't quite remember what that was anymore.
Course, things were made a little more cramped by the presence of Steil'Aqua'Glacialis'Tempus'Iell, the Esecentas who had consented to overseeing this bonding and providing one very important element to make everything go a lot more smoothly. Temporal stability. For a little while, it would be possible to move around the Fortress without becoming lost in the distant past or the near future. It was a shame that Steil couldn't stay, but he was here only as a favour from the Shiol, who needed the temporal stability more. Not being erased from history was rather more important than getting lost in last week, after all.
The other visitor, the one that bothered Kathamus more was... "What the hell are you doing here?" he asked Ketrenal with more than a little irritation in his voice. The reason the two lived on opposite ends of the mountain range was because they just didn't get on, and it was an unspoken agreement that they'd leave each other alone and mutually agree to pretend the other didn't exist.
"I'm with Mehari," Ketrenal responded in that irritatingly drawling, incomprehensible accent. "I'm also supervising this bonding."
"I don't think so. That's Rheyanva's job," Kathamus responded immediately. Really, he didn't want to be drawn into an argument like this, but it really couldn't be helped.
"She passed that job to you, and you'll force bondings on people that don't want them," the dark-haired human answered, as if this explained his presence in a satisfactory manner.
"They wouldn't be here if they didn't want to bond. We don't have room for any more dragons here. And since Mehari's your sponsor, why couldn't Fidena and him have done this at Cathair Bryquainabhainn?" The L'meridii flicked his fuzzy red tail in irritation, feeling he had a perfectly good point. This batch of baby dragons were really not the Fortress' responsibility.
Ketrenal shrugged. "Our hatching ground isn't finished yet. They wanted to be here for it, who knows why? And that's part of why I'm here."
"Boys, can you please try to get on just for one day?" Rheyanva interrupted before her mate could respond to the Cathair's leader.
"Go and stand on opposite sides of the Nest," Kataela agreed, shooing Ketrenal off towards the left side of Nest 1, next to the father, Mehari Syaess, while Rheyanva sent Kathamus off to the right, next to the entrance. Both women grinned at each other and shook their heads. It was typical, really; the men would just argue and insult each other in subtly diplomatic ways, while they'd be the ones to actually get things started.
"All Candidates into the Nest, please," Rheyanva said, hastening to the entrance of the Nest to gesture for the various optimistic Candidates to come in. They'd been guided through the network of tunnels of the Fortress by the creature Tesilas, Mirus Fortress' Tracker, and Ketrenal's second Rakield. Those two, at least, managed to get along fairly well, and they seemed to work well together. Well, they weren't arguing, anyway.
As Kathamus had done, Rheyanva noted that there were a lot of dragons amongst the Candidates. She had a fairly practical solution to the problem, though; using her magic, she subtly enlarged the size of Nest 1 to give everyone a lot more space. This technically made the Nest larger on the inside than on the outside, but that was the fun of magic, wasn't it? Course, it was possible that this magic would not mix too well with the time magic that allowed the Fortress some temporal stability for the duration of this bonding. They'd deal with that problem when, and if, they came to it.
Kataela made her way to the back of the Nest, inspecting each of the young dragons in turn, and then stepping back. Like the Candidates, it seemed that the dragons themselves were rather nervous, and why not? Today most of them would be choosing who they would be bonding with for the rest of their lives, and that was quite a heavy burden to place on ones so young. They whispered amongst themselves, rustling their wings nervously and peering across the Nest at the Candidates...
~~~~~~~~~

Feel free to join in now. I'd like to have the characters interacting with each other for a bit before I start the bonding itself, namely because I'd like to get an idea of each character's personality before bondings happen. So, interact with each other, and my characters will be interactable too...

For reference, the characters I have present are:
Kathamus: http://shiolar.merseine.nu/mirus/kathamus01.htm
Rheyanva: http://shiolar.merseine.nu/mirus/rheyanva01.htm
Ketrenal: http://shiolar.merseine.nu/mirus/ketrenal.htm
Kataela: No page yet
Tesilas: http://shiolar.merseine.nu/mirus/tesilas.htm
Rakield: No page yet
Steil': http://shiolar.merseine.nu/mirus/steil.htm

I might throw others in, as necessary.
And now, I'd best go colour some more babies...

Zialana struggled to maintain control as the small borrowed shuttle craft battled the fiery frictiion of Mirus's atmosphere. Best pilot in the fleet, she'd once been. Hardly, anymore.

As she knew that she must now focus on staying alive, she tried not to think about back on Tenav, where Zodiac and her bond and all the others were getting to have all the fun and excitement by themselves. With Jaral, who had gotten her arrested and dishonorably discharged from the space navy in the first place, around and so eager to return his lost bounty, it had been mutually decided that it would be a good idea for Zialana to disappear for a little while. Still, she hated to think of a mission going on without her. That wasn't in her nature.

To think she'd thought even for a second that Tenav's capitol, Sill-Terhar, would ever be safe. Probably the least safe place, even if it hadn't been her rival Jaral's home city. But that was parsecs away, now. All she had to do was land the bloody thing.

She fought to maintain control, and the ground shot up towards her. She was out of practice. That annoyed her. Swearing under her breath, she jerked the small craft upwards as it brushed roughly against the dirt, and then slowly skidded to a stop. She jerked against her crash restraints, and then all was still.

Not her best landing ever, but she was alive, and the little shuttle appeared to still be functioning. There was that, at least. She shrugged and got up, a little dizzy but otherwise fine. She took a moment to acclimate herself to the gravity and atmosphere on Mirus, and then she took a look around. The ship had taken some damage on re-entry -- Captain Fenaran, the ship's owner, was going to ream her into the next millennium about that dent on the left engine pod -- but otherwise she was in good shape and should be able to get her back to Tenav safely, once the world was safely convinced she was dead.

Nothing to do now but find shelter.

Upon some exploring, she found the entrance to a cave. She wasn't sure why but it smelled like civilization to her, though she dared not get her hopes up. Taking her flash light with her, she explored through the tunnels. Before long she realized that her suspicians had been right, and that the caverns were well lit.

"You look lost," a stranger said, his voice buzzing against her neural implants before the built-in translator unscrambled them for her. There were advantages, she thought, to being part-cyborg.

"Yes," she said, her implants in turn translating her own words.

"You looking for the hatching nest?" the stranger wondered.

"Yes," she said again. She had no idea what the hatching nest was and she didn't care, but she figured that it might give her some kind of idea of what went on on this planet.

"Down that corridor and to the left, go to the very end and take a right, you can't miss it."

"Thank you," she said, and left. Zialana's sense of direction was not her strong suit, but she found it without much trouble. The place seemed rather hectic, and she arrived just in time to witness two men arguing. "Are you one of the candidates?" a hurried, brisk young woman asked him.

Zialana stared at her dumbfounded, sure that she must look like an idiot. "Sure?" she asked.

"Good! Then what are you waiting for? Go join the others! Go! The hatching's about to start!"

"Hatching..." she said, but she had no time to protest before she was thrust after a crowd of humans and dragons who would also be standing as candidates.

With a mental apology across the light years to her bond, she decided that the best idea was to simply follow along. If the people here thought she was a candidate, then she'd be a candidate. After all, everyone loved a hatching.

[note-- first lines of each paragraph are colours, so I, atleast, know where new paragraphs start. >.>]

The party from mindspace was running a tad late.
January Uena'Aisi sighed heavily at this, twitching his long tail as he rested just outside of the area the party had agreed to land in. He'd come a day or two early, in order to inform those in the fortress of their numbers: 3-4 beings, only one of which was a dragon. Which, of course, meant that the three other interested beings would have to barter transport somehow, in order to reach this land. Oh, there were portals, of course-- but it was unwise for anything mortal to travel a mindspace portal. One never knew where they'd end up, or in how many peices.
January could teleport himself, thankfully, and did not have to risk such an interesting fate. He wasn't sure his system could handle it. The dragon was known for being a sickly creature, and you could tell it by looking at him-- His features, already long, were all too thin, and the glowies that adorned his back and tail drooped slightly. They coloured his pale-green hide a bright yellow-white in places, and washed out the bright gold of his mane, making him look partially ethereal, and partially ill. Attractive, and slightly worrying.
Agitation was written clearly on the dragon's features, as he stared towards the sky-- this was unusual for him, for January was known for being quiet and distant, always lost in his own brain. Perhaps it was all the stress in the air-- for all that they were fun and jovial, they were also great sources of nervousness and quick spurts of anger, particularly on the end of the candidates. Being an empath, he easily picked up on these things, showing them himself. He was restless and nervous, and he didn't like it. He wanted this hatching to bloody start already, and where were the rest of those idiots?
Unable to take another second of forcing himself to sit still, the dragon got to his feet and started pacing, wings and tail dragging on the floor. That was his bad habit-- when annoyed or hurting, he wouldn't expend the energy to lift them. He was saved from causing them any wear and tear, however, by his sister, who had decided to put in an appearance. She appeared, quite suddenly, beside him, an anthro of unknown species sitting easily on her back.
You've been told time and time again not to do that. she said, staring pointedly at his dragging wings and tail, as she knealt to let her passenger slide off her back.
January hadn't expected December to act as chauffer-- usually she was much too busy for such a thing, running her own little sect of mindspace. He didn't show it, however, merely giving her a glare and folding his wings to his side. I'll do as I please. You're late.
Yes, well. Blame the rest of your party for that one. There are two more after Vioshas. She replied, putting her ear-fins forward. Are you okay? You're acting.. not-like-you.
J[anuary shook his head, with another sigh. I'm fine. Everyone here is just nervous, and it rubs off. Vioshas? At this, he turned his head to look at the anthro, who he'd taken no notice of before. January had met Vioshas once or twice, and found his company quite enjoyable. It calmed him slightly-- familiar faces were a comfort in unfamiliar surroundings.
Well, I'm gonna take off. December said, nuzzling her brother's shoulder. Pick up those other two who weren't ready. Good luck to you both, and especially you, brother. She opened her mouth in a dragon-grin, before teleporting away.
"So.. where do we go?" Vioshas asked, after december had gone. "Anywhere in particular?" He was a beast of average size, who looked vagually canine, but no one could be sure. His fur was a mix of very dark indigo base, and various lighter purple and indigo swirls. Very attractive. He looked like his brother, Bancha, only taller and stronger. A gray overcoat, worn and ragged from long use, covered his red silk shirt and black pants, whose good quality contrasted heavily with it's worn-look. In the large pocket of the coat, one could see the top of a worn writing notebook, and a number of pens. Vioshas was a song-writer, a poet, and a story writer, and never went anywhere without a notebook in which he could write ideas and other such notes.
I don't know... the hatching cavern? I hear it's been slightly enlarged-- before it was too small to fit everyone at once. The hatching's going to start soon, I think. Now that he wasn't waiting on anything, he felt distinctly better. He could feel, however, the creeping edge of nervousness outside his tranquility-- this was just the calm before the storm. His agitation would return the moment he walked into that cavern.
Vioshas nodded, and they both started forward, Vioshas walking easily beside his larger companion. "I actually don't know much about this clutch. Avengaean mutts.. does that mean they're liveborn, or are we going to die with anticipation while they hatch?"
Liveborn, though don't count the anticipation out of the picture just yet. They might take some time in choosing. Vioshas nodded, falling silent, and they both lost themselves to thought as they made their way to the hatching cavern.
They reached the cavern in time to hear Rayanva call to the candidates, telling them to get inside. Vioshas grinned, suddenly taken by the excitement of the area- he was not nervous. He was confident. Even if he did not bond today, there would be other hatchings, of course-- this was just his first one. It was a good experience and, if nothing else, a song or three might come from it. Maybe even a short story. He nodded to other people, smiling slightly as he made his way along with the rest of the candidates just starting to file into the nest. January, however, was not reacting nearly as well-- though he wasn't dragging his wings, he kept his head down and his tail on the floor. His glows drooped more than usual, and he avoided meeting the eyes of anyone, only occasionally glancing at the dragonets. Nervousness was everywhere, and the dragon had picked up on it, becoming even more anxious than before. He felt slightly sick, and would've backed out, had he not already stepped across the threshold-- and no matter how bad he felt, if January started something, he finished it.
And then there was waiting. They took places beside each other, standing side by side for the sake of being near something familiar. Nothing would happen for awhile now-- still more candidates were wandering in the door, and there would probably be some time to get talk and get to know each other before anything actually started. January dreaded it, and Vioshas had no opinion-- meeting new people was interesting, even if he wasn't one to continue anything once he left Mirus.

(((Urgh, crappy. blame the tired, and the fact that I need to aquire some writing skills. :/ sorry. Also, I called it a hatching cavern in places, because i think it was reffered to as such? or maybe i'm thinking another world. In anycase, sorry if i got any termenology or anyting wrong. Oh, and I'm bringing one more character in. >.> I just have yet to decide who.))

((OOC)) Being sick sucks. -_- Also, as I've said numerous times before, I'm very inexperienced with roleplays and I kinda suck at them, so bear with me. I'll shut up now.

((IC))

A cloaked and hooded figure strode into the hatching cavern, the hems of her garments dripping water behind her. Kajinmarea pulled down the hood of her cloak, revealing her pointed ears before shaking out her-very curly now-blue-black hair. She scowled to herself. The day seemed to be bright and sunny here, but it had been raining at Darkling Dawn when she'd left.
She glanced at the people around her, and relaxed slightly. Well-it seemed a lot like Darkling Dawn; she'd barely stand out here. Blending in was always a good thing.
Still, she felt a little self-conscious as she removed her cloak and set it on the ground beside her. She wasn't used to having her midnight blue-scaled wings and tail out in the open for everyone to see. Seeing that the hatching was yet to start, she sat down on her damp cloak and waited for something to happen.
Darkling Dawn: Fauna Frenzy Open to candidates; flights open to males/females; rukel eggs/breedings available.
Drockh-Tallahn Castle: 3 eggs, 2 available. Females and males needed.
Sgiath Wolfkeep: 7 pups available
Sedona Weyr: 12 eggs, Deadline March 8. Chasers and a female needed.

Among the first to arrive had been been a tall man from Carodos, accompanied by two dragons and the head of Carodos's own fort. Of course, the head of the Fort Vesire and his two dragons were only accompanying the candidate because dragons (Makani and Kaleto) had been born on Mirus, and Remus's first trip off of Carodos had been to Mirus. And probably because the man could not resist the excitement of a hatching. What could you say for him?

But the person who deserved the attention, in truth, was the one amongst the other candidates. In fact, as a human he was really an odd sight considering the fact that there weren't many human candidates due here. Of course the male was used to that idea. He'd spent the last month and a half at Fort Vesire, learning about what it meant to take care of a dragon were one to bond to him. Sadly he'd been just a bit too late for the clutch of Kilamdiry that had hatched, leaving him no choice but to bond off world. So came Lisone to the place Remus knew well enough to consider a fourth or fifth home, the planet of Mirus.

Of course, the trip had hardly been fun. Since Remus and the little rukel belonging to the trio that ran Fort Vesire had opted to ride the calm and collected Kaleto Deeabeth, the serious mage had been forced to pair up with the intense and vocal Makani... who had promptly done a double loop in the air when they had first arrived on Mirus. It wasn't that Lisone was against heights or anything really... just the idea of FALLING from them. Makani at least could have WARNED him, but as the dragon had been going on and on about being back 'home' to Kaleto so he hadn't had the chance. And Remus had, of course, chuckled at the whole thing once the ride was over and Lisone had a chance to complain. Really, what was he doing, trying to talk sense into a kid that shouldn't have been anything more than a fisherman? Damn shifter...

"Relax!" came the sweet voice of a lovely female phoenix-rukel perched on his shoulder. Nyatia, the 'pet' of the trio who had accompanied him, was the most level-headed in the mind of the candidate. And her word was more than enough to calm him.

"It's just... a different feel than the Fort," the mage said with a sigh. And it really was. The Fort had been, most of the time, rather quiet and serious (except when people were fighting and such). This place was exciting and abuzz with energy. Considering he'd been raised at Wiguf, the mage training grounds of Carodos, such excitement was a foreign thing to him. This whole place was foreign.

"No two places feel the same," Nyatia responded, flaring her wings slightly for support when he unexpectedly shifted his weight.

"You've got a point there," he said, carefully brushing some of his blonde hair from clear blue eyes. It was one of the lessons taught to the few mages gifted with time magic like he was. Not that his magic was all that great. He could only affect himself and inanimate objects, and his control only covered about a five minute span. He could get a pot of water to boil faster, but he couldn't send a dog back even a second. Still, it was a rare skill and praised in the halls of Wiguf. It had been this skill that had caught the eye of the runner dragon Ishuna when she had come to deliver a message to the headmaster of Wiguf. It had been this skill that had gotten the tall blonde here today. And maybe it would be this skill that would make him worthy of his own dragon.

((OOC: as you have convinced me, another reluctant candidate. He doesn't INTEND To bond so he doesn't have to))

Your Name: Carodos
Character Name: Remus Prame
Page (if up): http://www.geocities.com/remusprame/remus.htm
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Homeworld: Carodos
Comments: My only request is that he doesn't get a blueish color. I want him to have something different colored from Makani and Kaleto so I can toy with his current appearance even more. He likes matching his dragons in color))

Now, Remus was here for more than one reason really. He'd tell you over and over he was only accompanying Lisone, but truth was, he loved Mirus a lot. He'd lived there a while during the time he was recovering from what should have been a mortal wound and the poison from an Egsu arrow in his attempt to get to what was now Fort Vesire. Here he had gotten Makani AND Kaleto, so the place was more than just a few good memories. It was the reason for his joy day after day. So the trip here definately had 'ulterior motive' written all over it. And more than just that of taking his lovely dragons back to their home.

We shouldn't be wandering around, came the voice of Kaleto in his mind as the Fort leader slipped from the group assembled to watch the hatching.

Don't be such a wet blanket Kaleto, Makani instantly spoke up in the defense of their bond. When it came right down to it, he was better suited to Remus than Kaleto. Where the other dragon was stoic and quiet, both Makani and Remus were intense, spoke their thoughts instantly, and weren't the best of planners.

"Besides," Remus chuckled, continuing on his path not that he'd spotted his goal, "You know I'd never be able to sit still."

This caused Kaleto to actually sigh. It was a little too true for his tastes. At the Kilamdiry bonding Remus had been everywhere at once, causing poor little Atiasay to snap at him. The Fort Leader was still wearing the bandages over his scratches.

Finally Remus managed, with his dragons, to get out of the crowd and moved to a spot quite close to the entrance. He couldn't be to blame for wanting to talk to Kathamus after all. If it weren't for the L'meridii and the people here, he wouldn't have his dragons. Besides, he wanted to show the tailed man just how well he'd taken care of the pair of brothers under his care. Or was it him under their care? Oh well, didn't matter.

Of course the normal excited waving and jumping would not prove to get the attention of the L'meridii, Remus knew that very well. Instead what he did was try to make himself the most noticeable thing in Kathamus's line of sight. That meant ditching the hair color he'd shown up with (bronze and turquoise in honor of his bonds, sprinkled with blue like Nyatia's fire) and shifting it to something a bit more extreme... a neon and pastel version of your standard rainbow. It didn't matter that it looked silly. Remus did what he had to do to get attention.

Vixen was sitting just inside the hatching cavern. Her tail daintily curled around her front paws as she sat in the shadows. She watched the two men in front of her argue. She wondered so much why they argued when it was so close to a bonding. She had been to many hatchings but never had she been chosen. She thought back to a bonding when a hatchling was so close to her. She could feel the young things mind so close to hers. Yet it was ripped away when another girl, one she particularly disliked, had leapt in front of her and embraced the hatchling. Shaking her head Vixen went back to watching the two men argue.

Eventually getting bored. Vixen stood up and walked over to where the rest of the candidates were. To her it was just another bonding that she would probably not get a bond from. She didn't care. Walking over to the nests she watched the nervous hatchlings.

The underground cavern had few shadows to offer, being circular and well-lit. It had no corners to hide in, nor cracks in the wall for a lithe body to squirm into. However, that didn't stop a certain cloaked and disshevelled creature from finding the darkest, dingiest section she possibly could and curling up there for a brief reprieve.

Zharerithia Damaskis had a good deal to be scared of in this foreign place. Although she had willingly sought out the Warren and earned her passage here, somehow she had pictured things going differently in her mind.

Throughout the dreams she had conjured on her travels to this fateful destination, she had imagined the dragons in their shining glory; the castles striking bold spires into the clouds; the numerous people here for the grand honour of joining souls with one of these noble beasts; and the dignitaries that would witness it. She had dreamt up the details when she had been given bare bones information on where she would be attending. She had even gone so far as to research the faces she would have to recognize. Yet never in all her imaginings did she believe she would actually set foot on another world.

Now that she was here, Zhar was scared out of her mind. The people were beautiful and varied and oh-so intimidating. The castles were absent, but the underground tunnel network was just as awe-inspiring. Although the grass was green and the sky was blue, Zhar knew without a doubt that this was not Tris'Hath.

She began to run scenarios through her mind like rats through a maze, each one becoming trapped as it discovered that there was no way out. The more she dwelled on "what ifs", the more crowded her mind became.

What if she didn't bond?

What if she couldn't get home?

What if she was stuck on this world for the rest of her life?

A woman spoke up suddenly, her sweet saprano carrying clear across the cavern. She was calling all the candidates to the nest.

Zhar jumped to her feet, feeling her heart hammering away in her throat like a humming bird begging to be set free. She ran slender fingers through her knotted, brown locks and smoothed out the creases of her home-spun wool dress. The threads had been dyed a deep, forest green in honour of the spirits and energies she manipulated. A few patched of crusty brown foretold of the physical effort she put into connecting with her "magic".

When compared to Tris'Hathian sorcerers and mages, Zhar was a laughable incompetent. Her herbal remedies could be conjured in seconds by a skilled White Mage; and her potent toxins paled in comparison to the harmful element-based spells thrown by sorcerers. However, in the tiny village from which she hailed, her magic was a god-send.

Zhar let out a slow, calming breath and clasped her sweaty hands around a crystal pendant hanging from her neck. The bottom of the tear-shaped stone pointed towards her tiny bosom, which was covered up to her collar-bone by the heavy robe she had made. Her feet were clad in leather slippers. Which had been given to her by the local leather smith after she had saved his son from a wasting sickness.

She was a true, Northern-born witch of only twenty years of age, and she was about to experience a ceremony none of her rank had ever seen before. This was an honour left to knights and mages. Or so she had been lead to believe. The Red Mage, the magi princess, had been more than accomidating when she had come to her with her request.

Zhar licked her lips and murmured a prayer to the gods as she took a few tentative steps towards the nest. Already the other candidates and dignitaries were gathering. The fact that she recognized some was even more intimidating.

"It's okay." She soothed herself, keeping a death-grip on her pendant. "This is just a new experience. You're going to walk over there and meet the dragons. You're going to be brave. You're going to-"

Zhar trailed off, feeling her voice betray her as courage seemed to seep out through her toes. She made a small, mousey sound, then turned around and skipped right back to her dark corner.

"I can't do this." She muttered to herself, placing her forehead against the wall. "Oh gods. Why did I come here? Why did I ever leave home? I don't even know how to get home now. Oh gods..."

It took a while, but eventually Zhar was able to talk herself out of chickening out. She did it not for the fact that she had found renewed strength, but simply because she had nothing else to do until someone came back to pick her up. So she might as well go through with the bonding.

Turning around, Zhar tried again to cross the distance to the dragonets. She got to three steps and felt her knees start to buckle, but mule-like determination kept her moving forward. There was no where else to go except forward.

"Dear gods," she whispered under her breath as she drew closer and closer to the candidates, "please grant me the strength to go through with this. Please, for the love of all that's holy, help me."

Summissa was too busy taking in everything around her to really pay any attention to the slightly nervous feeling in the pit of her stomach. Afterall, traveling (especially between worlds as different as Jhiirsai and Mirus) was not exactly something that Summissa had much experience in. Smiling lightly to herself, and dimly hoping that she didn't look too ridiculous for it, the dragoness thought back to a few weeks before, when she had left her island home for the first time. Ihlathi had been such a strange and almost frightening place... it would feel more like home now that she had been to Mirus.

Summissa glanced at the other candidates, gathered outside the entrance to the nest where the dragonets were apparently being housed. She couldn't help but wonder if these other creatures, many of them dragons like herself, noticed the way that the air smelled here, the unique whisper of the plants and animals, the interesting way that the sun shone down onto the world. They were subtle things, but to Summissa, perceptive as she had become over the years, they were obvious and it was those little details which continued to remind the dragoness that she was far from home.

She was surprised, as she followed the other candidates out and into the nest, that she was not feeling more afraid. Bonding was certainly an unknown to her, though she had been told many stories (mostly happy) about the experience by Ihlathians. Sharing her mind with another dragon was a little bit scary, but Summissa found herself thinking that it could only really be good. Secrets were never very healthy, and having a companion who knew her that well might help her put down her worldly fears a bit. Not that she expected only to be on the receiving end of the bond... Summissa felt strongly already, without having even seen the dragonet that was meant for her, that she would be willing to do much of anything for her bond. Summissa was a motherly creature, and she knew what kind of responsibility having a hatchling around would be.

Just as the dragoness was beginning to feel proud of herself, not feeling as nervous as the other candidates appeared to be feeling, she caught sight of the hatchlings and felt her heart skip a beat. The little dragons watched them all intently, their expressions far from calm... they were all beautiful. Summissa hoped that she would find one among them all that would chose to be her bond... perhaps one that felt as afraid as she suddenly did.

Wakada was a traveler and that had it's covinionces because she learned about all the places there were. if there was a new place founded you could bet she would be one of the first to come and look around. but bonding haden't really caught her intrest, for some reason thought she was drawn to this clutch, maybe becase of the fact the already were awake or maybe she just had a sence this would be were she bonded. She had a few powers among them would be Pyrokenetic, teleportation and empathy. Her empath power made her moods swing with the energys around her. she heard the call for candidates of this clutch andd stumbled down the the hatching area

Your Name: TyGryph
Character Name: TyGryph
Page (if up): not yet
Gender: Female
Species: Human; can shift from fully human to a tiger-gryphon, and anywhere between.
Homeworld: Born & Raised at Ryslen
Comments: This is the daughter of Tiyoshi (Tiyanni's daughter) and Gr'fin, not my self-character (who doesn't go by TyGryph anyway.)

Character Name: Amori Syaess
Page (if up): http://www.geocities.com/ryslen_sun/Solo/Amori.html
Gender: Male
Species: Avyndal / RysHathian / Senaerren Mutt (Shifts to Human)
Homeworld: Hatched from Ryslen's 05 Flurry
Comments: Mehari's brother; mainly here because he's now an uncle! Bond or Sponsor is equally fine, though I strongly prefer that if he bonds, it be with a male.

I may bring more characters in later. Don't know yet.

---

TyGryph bounded out into Ryslen's vast courtyard and out to where a lone figure stood watching the sun rise over the mountain. Not that such a gait seemed appropriate for a majestic white tigress, but she was excited. Who wouldn't be?

When Amori had gone to Jeyann to tell of his brother's new children (and quietly ask for "directions" to Mirus, since he'd never been there and teleporting blind was a huge mistake), TyGryph had been there, and being interested in seeing Mirus (and the "newborns") herself, went through all the appropriate channels to get permission, starting with Amori, as she'd need to ride on his shoulders unless there was another dragon going. It was, in TyGryph's mind, rude to assume you could just ride on another person, even if that person was a dragon.

She stopped a few paces from Amori and shifted into a more human form, retaining her tiger ears and tail because she could. He looked as exotic in his humanoid form as she did with her chosen feline accents. A blue gem sparkled in his forehead, and his wings seemed purple in the red glow of dawn. A pair of dark horns poked through his hair on each side, a dark accent to his hair, which was white at the roots and blue at the ends, through no choice of his. TyGryph walked up to stand beside him, her soft leather boots making almost no sound.

"Beautiful morning, isn't it?" She asked softly.

Amori turned and smiled at her, the first rays of sun sparkling off the gem in his forehead. "It is. We should go -- are you certain you wish to arrive like that?" He meant the tiger-parts, of course, since she had a choice in looking not-human.

She sighed a little and they melted away into human features. "You're right, of course. I represent Ryslen and my family, and must act and appear accordingly." Being Tiyanni's granddaughter and Prima Jeyann's niece was an unusual burden for a young woman. Then she smiled at Amori, who was smiling at her. He looked more mature than she did, though she had a great number of years on him. The benefit of a dragon's quick (by comparision to humans') maturation.

"Oh, I think you're the embodiment of Ryslen, TyGryph. Stand back while I change, please." Amori said, stepping away a bit. His transformation was a bit more magical and sudden, but when it was over, he was just as gorgeous. He dipped his neck and with a running start TyGryph clambered aboard.

Grab ahold of my mane... Amori instructed, and she gathered a double handful and held tight. No need for riding straps for this short trip, though they might need them on the way back, depending on how things went. Amori wasn't sure that Ryslen's leaders or Tiyoshi, TyGryph's mother, were aware that this Introduction of Amori's new nieces and nephews was a bonding/sponsoring event also, but TyGryph knew, without a doubt.

He leapt from the courtyard, and transferred to Mirus.

* * *

The Nesting Cavern was large to begin with, but with all the dragons and people there, it was a joyous and anticipatory crowd.

When Rheyanva called for the candidates, Amori gave TyGryph a little nudge (not that it was necessary) towards the group and went off the other way a bit to see where Mehari was hiding, but not so far that he couldn't see or hear what was going on with the group of hopefuls.

TyGryph saw, out of the corner of her eye, a familiar sort of red form, and turned to look at the anthro-fox Vixen, who looked somewhat like her best friend Kitlyn. She smiled at the other girl, a not-exactly-hopeful looking candidate.

((There's a good start, I think. Kitlyn, for those of you who don't know, is the daughter of Ryslen's Searchrider J'len and the anthro-fox Red.))

(( As you wish, DNS. XD ))

November blinked and looked around. For a moment her senses were still a little bit twisted from the sensation of portal-travel, but as she gathered her bearings, she realized something was a little bit strange.

First of all, she had been teleported, that was certain.

Second of all, while she had been teleported, she certainly was not in the place she had intended to go.

"Xhira?" she called. "Where are you?"

"Over here," said a voice. Standing behind November was her half-sister and caretaker Xhira, who could be distinguished easily by the purple glowies that dangled from various parts of her body.

"Where are we?" November asked, a little demanding in tone of voice.

"I'm not sure," Xhira replied. "In all honesty, I think something may have gone a little bit wrong with the teleportation."

"Damn straight," November muttered under her breath. "This doesn't look like the place you described at all."

"It's not Starburst, for sure," Xhira stated, gazing around her. They were in a tunnel of sorts, which was indeed lit up enough for them to see clearly. "But the lights are magically generated. We're near civilization."

"I think I've decided that," November snapped (she had a bit of a quick temper). "See, there's people going into that cavern."

"People?" Xhira remarked, gazing at a certain dragon she had spotted in the multitude of beings. "There are dragons here. That one looks familiar, does he not?"

November looked over at the green-gold dragon Xhira was referring to, with glowing wisps on his form ever so similar to her own. "Yes," she said finally. "My brother. January."

"We should go see him," Xhira suggested. "Perhaps we can find out what is occurring in this place."

"Maybe we can find out where the hell we are," November agreed, following the larger dragon towards the crowd.

(( okay, it's crappy. but despite my terrible rp skills, I want one of these babies so terribly, and I also want November and January to meet up. hehe. ))

((This reply is only half done, as i'm typing it in the 7 minutes before school. yay! and pardon spelling errors (more than usual), tis rushed and I'm riding the back end of a nyquil dose.))

[]Vioshas had long ago lost himself in thought-- January could tell from his fellow candidate's eyes, they always went unfocused when vioshas was elsewhere in his head, dancing around with all those lyrics and words. It made him feel all the more alone, since he could not do that-- his thoughts were a mass of borrowed and genuine anxiety, and he didn't at all feel like getting bogged down in all of it-- as much as he could avoid, anyway.
[]So, in search of some useful distraction, he swept the area with his eyes, looking for something interesting, and preferably familiar.
[]Luck was on his side, as it were, since he spotted a familiar set of glowbulbs near the door. Two sets of glowbulbs, actually-- one multicoloured, and the other purple. He perked at the sight, trying to lift his head above the crowd and confirm what he saw.. Yes, it was indeed one of his clutch sisters-- November. She was accompanied by what was presumably another sister of his, who looked a lot like Glacia. He hadn't met glacia more than once, and had never met the rest of her clutchmates, having been too occupied in his own wanderings to catch the news in time.
[]Nevertheless, the presence of both dragons was something he found comforting, and he forgot his much of his anxiety to excitement. Muttering a breif I'll be right back to Vioshas, the green-gold dragon made his way over to the other glow-clad dragons. Evidently, they'd been trying to reach him as well, as they met half-way.
[]"November! It's been a long time since I've seen you." And, indeed, it had-- January hadn't seen much of anyone since December had come and brought him to Mindspace, much less his clutch-mates. "How are you?" And then, as if remembering his manners, he turned to Xhira. "Oh, I almost forgot. I'm January Uena'Aisi." he said quickly. His enthusiasm was a sharp contrast to his manner moments before, but such was the manner of January.

//done. ((sigbjorn will come in in a new post.))

((See what I mean about being slow-paced, guys?))

Remus really didn't need to turn his hair that hideous colouration in order to attract Kathamus' attention. The bouncing up and down, waving his hand in the air was more than enough to get the L'meridii to notice him, and with a chuckle, Kathamus bounded over to the man, remembering him as one of the Candidate's he'd escorted to a bonding what seemed like only a short time ago. Obviously, Remus' dragons were both adults by now, but with the nature of time on Mirus, it was really impossible to say how long ago it had been. It felt like just a couple of months to Kathamus, though. "Hi Remus! How're you doing? You here to bond too, huh?"

Mehari was not so much hiding as merely sitting in a place that wasn't too seriously in the way. Still, the copper and white dragon grinned when he saw his brother, Amori, and he flared his wings to attract the other dragon's attention; he could have shifted to a more humanoid form for this, really, but he'd always been more comfortable as a quadruped than a biped.

And the young dragons themselves, Mehari's offspring, gathered together in a distinctly nervous looking group, peering at the assembled Candidates with a mixture of curiousity and fear. Occasionally, one of them might be shoved playfully in the direction of the watching crowd, and that one would give a startled squeak and leap back into the middle of the group, half trampling his or her siblings. And sometimes, a more daring individual took a few steps forward to sniff at one Candidate or another, before darting back. Evidently these dragon kits were more than a little nervous about this whole bonding business.

Vixen stared at the cluster off hatchlings. Oh how she wished they were a little more brave. But the nervousness of them was completely under standable. She sat towards the back of the candidate group. She didn't really want to be noticed. At least not now anyways. She began picking out some hatchlings with distinct colors that she liked. She couldn't help but feel a bit out of place. She didn't know why but she felt like she was being watched and it wasn't by the hatchlings either.

"Vixen!" a voice called from behind her. Vixen whipped around to see her brother Todd come trotting up next to her. "It's been a while since I've seen you." she replied sending a look of disbelief his way. Todd continued to trot p to her with the biggest grin on his face. "What are you doing here?" Vixen asked returning her gaze to the cluster of nervous hatchlings. "Same reason you're here!" Todd replied happily. Vixen looked at her brother and then to the other candidates. "Well, do they know you're here/ The people running this I mean?" asked Vixen with a bit of an irritated sigh.

"Yeah." Todd replied. "Why else would I be sitting here." He said with a grin. "Then I guess you should go find a spot to sit while we wait." Vixen replied turning back to the hatchlings. Todd's smile faded as he looked at his sister. Then turning he made a line for another spot towards the front of the group. He had his own plans and his sister wasn't going to keep him from trying to bond.

((I added her brother cuz I got bored. Hope ya dun mind.))

((EEE! Nice siggy, once again, silver.

Sigbjorn's entrance will be /here/. and will probably be disjointed, because i'm listening to music.))

Anyone who knew Sigbjorn would've been staring from the moment they saw the anthro set foot on Mirus soil. Granted, in the current assemblage, this was maybe only two or three people, but nonetheless, his presence was surprising, to say the least.
The fact that December was annoyed at him was not nearly as surprising. She appeared once more in the air, a little ways away from where she and January had first met up. That she was in ill humour was plainly obvious by the way she held herself-- her landing was short and lacked it's usual grace, and she held herselt stiffly once it was done, swivling her glow-clad head to glare at her passenger.
If sigbjorn took any notice of the dragon's annoyance, he gave no sign of it, merely sliding off her neck and giving her a graceful bow. "Thank you. Now if you'd be so kind as to show me where I'm supposed to be going? I'm unfamiliar with the area."
December glared at him for a moment more, twitching her tail in annoyance. Of course, your highness. She hissed sarcastically into his mind, before turning abruptly and starting down the path to the hatching cavern.
Sigbjorn said nothing, following her as if she had offered to do the task. He and December didn't get along-- she regarded him as nothing more than a frivolous peacock, and couldn't fathom why he was so highly regarded amongst the major beings in mindspace. He returned the sentiment, but thought that she was more of a brutish and callous, rather than being a peacock. Neither of them were correct-- or completely correct, in anycase. Sigbjorn was something of a peacock, but he wasn't frivolous, and for as occasionally callous as December might be, she wasn't a brute by any means.
Of course, at the moment they were both acting in accordance with the other's expectations-- December was being short, blunt, and borderline rude, both annoyed at having had to wait close to an hour for the prissy little anthro to get himself ready, and at having to convey him at all. Sigbjorn himself didn't have to do anything except be his normal self to get misinterprited-- he was naturally cold and distant, and wore the expression associated with such like his normal face. He walked elegantly and kept his head high, which gave him the impression of looking down his nose at people, despite the fact that he was far too short to do so. He was 5'1", with deceptively fragile-looking features and blue fur that always looked in top condition. The clincher was his hair, however-- it was impossibly long, to his knees, and as impeccably groomed as the rest of him. The only concession he made in the name of practicality was to tie it back in a loose ponytail, which didn't really help much at all.
Admittadly, Sigbjorn was every ounce as much of a brat as he looked, but the only one who spoiled him was himself. Which was part of the reason he was here-- He'd come to the conclusion that what he needed was a dragon. Nobody had felt inclined to talk him out of it, considering that a dragon might do two things-- get him out of his reclusive hideaway, and warm him up a bit. Whether or not it would do this, or whether or not any dragon would be attracted to bond to this little ice queen, had yet to be seen.
We're here. December hissed finally, reaching the entrance to the cavern. Sigbjorn bowed gracefully and nodded to her.
"Thank you." he said, though it was plain by his tone that he only said it to be polite, and continued onwards to the main group of dragons and humanoids that presumably were also here to bond.
December hung back in the door, watching him go with a sour expression on her face, before turning to scan over those assembled, trying to spot her brother. She wanted to wish him luck before she went back to check on her underground and watch the clutch of eggs she'd "Fathered" with nin'queesha.
Sigbjorn took no notice of her, having seen a familiar figure. He drifted towards the familiar overcoat clad form of Vioshas, who he saw rarely, but whose presence was one of the few he could stand, and even enjoy. "Vioshas." he said airly, when he'd reached the taller candidate. "How are you?"
Vioshas did not seem to hear him, as lost as thought as he had been before. He must have, however, for he replied a few seconds afterwards, "I'm fine. Surprising to see you here, Sigbjorn." He turned to give the goat-like creature a grin, nodding in greeting. "You're here for a dragon?"
"mmhmm." Sig replied, looking in the direction of the dragonets, who looked nervous and apprehensive. "adorable creatures."
"Oh yes." Vioshas said, looking in the same direction. "Though I have to admit, I'll be surprised if any of them bond to you. I hear they're very empathetic creatures, and you're.. ah.." he struggled for a way to put his thought into words that would not offend the smaller male.
"Cold?" He finished, with a slight smile. "I thought as much. But perhaps they'll be able to see through that." he shrugged. "and if not, I return to mindspace until I find somewhere else to try again. No shame in not impressing; they choose who's best suited to them, and I'd rather be matched with a dragonet that suits me than one who will grow unable to stand me."
Vioshas nodded; that made sense. "Fair enough," he replied. "Good luck."
"Good luck, as well." Sigbjorn said, continuing to watch the nervous dragonets. Neither said anything after that, falling into the contemplative silences they were best known for. Vioshas went back to thinking in his usual stream of lyrics and poems, trying to pick out something usable from the quick-moving throughs, and Sig merely watched the dragonets, thoughts unfathomable.

In and amongst the various other candidates, whether anthropomorphic, human, or draconic one, at the least, did not look absolutely thrilled to be there. The young man did not seem confused, or really out of place. He just simply...did not look pleased.

Shael stood in amongst the others, quiet, only observing his path as he traversed along it. One hand was tucked into the pocket of his lengthy leather coat, the silver buttons missing at the top and a grey patch of several bars on the corresponding shoulder. Absently he ran his fingers over the bandage across his hidden palm, sparing a quick glance of slate grey eyes over the others.

So many dragons, he thought to himself, facial expression remaining somewhat in a disatisfied, casual manner. Who would have thought, something so rare and revered on our world...yet they're just as common as humans are back home.

He wasn't quite sure how to feel about the whole thing; at home it was said that the rarely-seen creatures had sprung from the gems that the Sky Mother planted on the earth, gifts for her mate. Children of the world they had created together, and signifying luck... But now, to create a trade agreement with another world beyond the space between worlds, he was to...what was the word? Bond to one of these creatures?

It was entirely foreign to him, as were a good many of the words being spoken. And a part of him, quite frankly, just wanted to slink off back home, somehow, and find his crew again... Returning to patroling the oceans on his own world, with more -normal- trade routes.

((I'm adding Zia's bond, Petasati, as an NPC. She's not participating in the hatching, she's just there to keep her company. I hope that's ok!))

Zialana poked at the sands with her left foot rather nonchalantly, wondering not for the first time of late what she was doing here. Word back on the planet was they'd finally gotten Jaral to call off the chase. He was busy on the Abstract Destiny anyway, as far as she'd heard. She wished she could just get back to Tenav, but the question still remained of why she'd been on Tenav to begin with. What did she expect to gain from pretending to be Tarot's wife (while Zodiac pretended to be Tarot) anyway? Wasn't the world safely convinced she was dead, by now? She wanted to go home.

"So," a familliar voice said to her, "Going off and collecting other bonds without me, are you?"

Zialana gaped when she saw the white-skinned girl who appeared about ten years old with ice blue hair and green eyes similar to her own. It was Petasati, her bond, in her human form.

"'Sati?" Zialana asked. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh Ancients you did not think I was going to sit around on Tenav and entertain Veresti all day while you got to have all the fun, did you?"

"Fun," she giggled nervously, "Right."

"So what made you become a candidate?"

"I got lost, and they stuck me here," she shrugged. "I didn't mean it out of disloyalty to you."

"I didn't take it as that," Petasati said with a shrug. "After all, more dragons around is always useful. The Stinger was built to house a crew of twenty, right now we're trying to survive with barely more than half that. Well, you get the point."

"I do indeed," said Zialana. "So, what brings you to Mirus?"

"The truth?" she asked. "Things on Tenav were terribly, terribly boring. So I took matters into my own hands, and I took a shuttle here."

"Does Zodiac know you're gone?"

"Does he need to?"

"Petasati, does Zodiac know that you're gone?"

"I didn't think it was necessary to tell him, if that's what you're thinking."

"What about Fenaran?" she asked.

"Zialana, I thought you'd be happy to see me."

"I am," she said, "But you didn't tell Fenaran?"

"It didn't seem necessary," she repeated.

"Oh, Gods," Zialana sighed. Zodiac would likely worry in silence, but Fenaran ... Fenaran was going to raise hell over this one!

"So," Petasati said, all duty and business like usual, "What exactly is this hatching sort of ceremony about?"
