Dragonhope Weyr 11th Pass Giveaways

Post by Shard »

It's time for some giveaways for the old Talor Cliff Weyr images - three sets all made by Falora back in the day, I inherited these and am gonna send them to you with love!

The form for asking is up on Google Forms, and any other info can easily be reached with me (Zekiran) on Discord.
I prefer to keep this thread clear of replies, so I can list records of who gets what here instead.

If you cannot see images due to being 'guest' status here, first I think it's possible to join now and be a member here? But if you don't want to, the images can also be found I guess on Discord too though I don't really want to spam there. If requested enough I can also put them up on Toyhouse, but I really prefer not to, since that site mutilates file names to a degree that I do not want. I won't be distributing images via Toyhouse again, for that reason - it stripped all the Alskyran clutch dragons names from the files, which ... kinda defeats the purpose of me putting proper names on them :)

****
This info is found on the image posted in Discord, but put here in text.

How I am running Dragonhope Giveaway: May 20 - June ?? 2021

* Can request specific colors or color types (greens, low ranks, bicolors, whatever)
* Can request from specific clutches
* Can request from specific years (see chart for both)

* Must tell me if you want ONLY ADULT images, or if you want FULL SETS, all three of these contain 3 images - hatchling, weyrling, and adult, so if I’m doing customized images for color variation (and there will be some) I prefer only adult images to deal with the volume of that...

* Must tell me if you want riders generated, they will be local Human Pernese unless requested otherwise (I will use different generators for non-local or non-Pernese requests I have some wild ones)
*!!* If you want NO riders generated, you must be able to either provide names for candidates before you ask, or very quickly tell me who has impressed, so I don’t have a lot of unnamed dragon pairs.

* Must tell me if you want to AVOID specific colors or anything else (no off-gender dragons for their rank, no rares, no bronzes or whatever, no rider/dragon off genders, etc)

* Currently limited to 1-per-Color-per-Version we’ll see what can be done for extras after that

* Example of request:
If you ask for “one of everything” you will receive 15 to 18 *dragons*, green-through-gold with perhaps a rare or two scattered in there, each rank 3 versions of dragon, which may mean you’re getting up to 18x3 *images*. They are small, geocities-page-size files...

I will produce clutch results on my end, so you may wind up with a variety of characters / dragons that come from up to 10 years worth of clutches. They will be labeled as such with their year and origin, though some images might just be ‘generic version 1-3’ if they are simple ranked and not customized variation colors.

I may produce characters based on generators, which will include gender, name, basic appearance, basic skills, a little background info, so you can expand on it or toss my info and change to your hearts content. *!!* I don’t ask that you keep anything, but if it does get generated and changed, I need to know what has changed for my own records.

** In Character: Riders / Dragons are not expected to remain at Dragonhope, though they will likely have to stay there at least 1 year as their dragon will not be ready to leave, unless you have a transportation method. It’s assumed that if they remain for training during Weyrlinghood that they will be pretty much ready for anything, but Dragonhope has crafting riders and is very flexible about their training. If your rider won’t be a fighter, they will get only the baseline training for Thread fighting and wing-formations, but enough that they will pass exams for emergency situations. Dragonhope has a massive structure of support for their riders, and likely has luxuries that other weyrs might not (like electricity and indoor heating/plumbing) beyond ‘living in a volcano’. It is super freaking cold at Dragonhope. Be prepared to be shivering outside, except during the 6 weeks of summer ;)

***
Dragons will be from my stock of pairs, there will be one largish Version 3 clutch available for actual candidate submission after these (or just 'sometime in june') as well.

For ease of reference I'm putting a chart here, and then the following posts will be individual images with the dragon-pairs and their 'claimed' spots. So if you want a dragon with specific parents or to have an idea of what they'll be producing before you request, check the image and info first!
**Senior Queen and Weyrleader's Dragons
***Candidate-based clutch only
^'off gender' dragons / rider(s) will expect cross-gendered bonding

And, the Google Forms link! Hopefully the link works through here. I recommend looking at the pairs first, if you want to 'order' anything other than just 'all of the above'.

GENERATORS USED
- mine (pernese generators/fantasyrandoms.htm); names and assorted (fantasynamegenerators.com); Dungeons and Dragons (fastcharacter.com) and notes on species:
Zeddians Usagi Elves Harry Potterverse Vault Dwellers Zekirans Carramba D&D

Dragonhope itself is more or less ‘ON’ Pern, still, with all the expectations that holds, but they’re not above doing a little searching off-world for their clutches...

While these are often listed as Pernese feel free to alter to suit needs, ‘guild’ born = crafthall, ‘clan’ born usually indicates Alskyran groups as small ‘House’ versus the bigger holdings of Lords and may be subservient but not necessarily related to those Lords. Specifically ‘my’ houses and holds include Dawnlight, a highly structured (nearly big-brother style) city state originally set in post-apocalyptic earth in the distant future, Blackstone Weyr is run by wild cards of that city... Alabaster Weyrhold is also an adaptation of a scifi setting with a specific group of people forming the core of that weyr, but adding several houses such as Caledrus (where Istabitha’s ‘last, first’ clutch parents reside!) and Mama Tani’s Fosterlings (they’re all furries, some are Zekirans...), House Paveh is a zekiran-influenced Paniyan horse racing group, Tsan-Nu is a wildly popular silk and fashion House, House Chagga is a coffee specialist port importing and exporting beans as trade goods, and House Faustas experiments on the Clan Triptych shapeshifters that roam Paniya. I avoided most specific mention of those but if you think your character ought to be from one of them go for it!

and http://www.droppin-the-fork.com/generat ... riders.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Zeddians are very tall (usually around 7’ rather than 6’ for average males) and they have starkly white and black skin with markings, and more importantly four arms and the potential to have modest (to very strong) psionic powers. They are ‘aware’ of the galaxy and other dimensions having intelligent life in it, but their cultural and religious leaders often downplay or even forbid interaction with it... Except in recent times, there have been some culture exchanges leading to them showing up as teenagers at Carramba High, or in weirder places. These have been brought directly from their homeworld, and not necessarily filtered through the nexus high school. Information on them should still be up at
http://www.droppin-the-fork.com/generat ... n-full.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Usagi characters are basically ‘rabbit mages’, often specializing in healing or necromancy, but also have good elemental and even totemic powers. Their king and queen are human and usagi, and virtually every Usagi out and about has little more than half Usagi blood. Their traits however run very strongly toward the fur, ears and tail, and markings common to the breed, so even if they’ve only got a drop of that blood in them they’re highly likely to look like one. Their setting Gelgela has recently been ‘moved’ to Dragondeep, but references to towns and cities are still accurate, since basically instead of destroying them all in the move, the *entire area* is now on another planet. They are at a more or less fantasy medieval level of technology, and cross easily over into both the Nexus and other genres (Queen Sean for instance teaches at the harry-potterverse House Domina as well as Carramba).
http://www.droppin-the-fork.com/dragons ... maker2.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Elves from Abode, the ‘World of Two Moons’ of Elfquest comics generator is in a slightly more presentable shape...Though dragons don’t exist on that world, one Holt (from the old snail mail days) survives in the form of Bald Mountain and ... those elves all got dragons. So why not share em with the rest of the world. Now they need some space, maybe they’ll enjoy living with other humanoids.
Otherforest Elves are faintly based upon the Elfquest style of humanoids with pointy ears, 3-fingered hands, and magic. They are generally small (only to about 4’) and much stronger than they look, and often are descended from people that exist in real life that have been ‘converted’ to this form. (Many Nexus folks have elves of themselves!) They have nature-based abilities, tend to hunt instead of farm but do both in large communities. Their world is connected to Dragondeep, Carramba, even Zekira, via artificially created portals (there’s backstory on this). A word of warning to traveling there, time passes differently on the Otherforest, with a year going by there, for every 2 months on Earth. Though there is a gen, it’s VERY old and VERY crap. ((Note that there aren’t any coming from the Otherforest but they have more information that I personally have made up.))

http://www.droppin-the-fork.com/elves/a ... rator4.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Harry Potterverse characters are generally human but may also be shapeshifters (animagus or were-) or have faint fey influence, they are spellcasters and occasionally naturally able to cast spell like things without ‘wand waving and incantations’. I used the idea that fan-made schools should be included in this one but the bulk are still the familiar Hogwarts houses.
http://www.droppin-the-fork.com/dragons ... ator-2.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Vault Dwellers are from the Fallout universe, and collect information found on the fandom website for it. Generally only listing humans, synths, and ghouls, as I didn’t think that passing off a supermutant or glowing one, or some of the other weirder things was going to fly :) The Plastic Future of the 50s inspired post-nuke apocalypse. This setting however does house a portion of the Rookery (one in New Vegas, and the other in Boston-area Commonwealth, with a potential third up in the Synth-dominated Acadia Far Harbor locale. They are not ‘canon’ settlements, the Rookery-involved world is tweaked a little for my use. Vault generator is not online.

Zekirans are known as the Rainbow People and are effectively humanoids with all the bells and whistles possible, and a very complex culture. Tall, long-lived, and often graced with mutations and abilities, they have a stiffly followed cultural status format, and value good work and law more than basically everything else. They may also hail from a variation called Dragonmasters of Zekira, which is *specifically* invaded by creatures that had been on the planet long before the Zekiran colony ship landed there itself. They can come from either of those, with equal results, particularly if you want them in your Weyr or Caer, and not sending them ‘home’. The website is dreadful and the generator linked on my site hasn’t been updated in 8 years so I’m not gonna share that one but I can offer the html up for people if they want to run it locally, for both DMZ and normal Zekira (DMZ’s has not been updated but does have a fun side-generator for events that might occur on their world, which challenge your Dragon Masters skills and ... might even kill them.).

Carramba High School contains students from literally anywhere and any time, including ‘fictional’ worlds, it’s an extreme crossover nexus spot making the most of the cultures that come through it. It’s a 4-year high school that is based on merit rather than age groups, and makes every student of any breed, type, or origin feel as welcome as they can. The stats are a modified version of the Teenagers From Outer Space game mashed up with Human Occupied Landfill - thus the ‘game’ I made from them is known as Teenagers From Hol. Most of my characters teach there or have studied there... The classes are not tweaked from the generator so they may be a bit weird, but might offer some fun character building. The generator connected to the site is extremely old and very, very out of date, I have a much newer one I use for this. Some students may be ‘from’ other planets that I also use, but these are specifically tweaked to be ‘students’ and have unusual versions of powers.

D&D characters were generated by a great little gen and are fit for 5th edition use, straight off the page. They will include actual HTML because that’s how their gen spits it out. I stuck with mainly humans.

A note about my genres: I mix and mash literally everything all the time. Chances are that if there’s a game, movie, book, comic, or cartoon with a neat setting, I will put it in Carramba for students and classes, Zekira for specific breeding needs, or in some way stick a dragon in it. I also love multiple versions of people and places, so you’ll find the same person in different guises all over the place in my writing. Though historically I’m known as Shard, who has his start in Dawnlight and is the leader of the Kshau Protectorate (his name is Aern Kshau and he’s the inheritor of this task on his original version) currently my ‘main’ is Keenan Lane, and he runs the Black Mesa Dragon Rookery - a location found in my mashup of the Half Life and Fear universes. He has inadvertently bumped into folks that can use his vast powers to their advantage, but he’s no fool. He - like Shard, Tani, Sanger(s) and anyone else I loved to write about - teaches at Carramba, is a superhero at Paragon City, is a green-furred shapeshifting panther kin assassin on Dragondeep... He’s your go-to djinn in a sinister black suit, passing himself off as an unapproachable badass, but he’s very deeply protective of the worlds he visits and the people he befriends. Feel free to swipe a version for yourself, he’s Gman from Half Life anyway :)

Search and arrival notes for any in-context writing folks want to do!
*** (( In character ))

As he walked through his private construct, Keenan noticed a blinking light on one specific console that he’d ‘installed’ not too long ago. Normally the consoles here were meant to monitor any of his... well, some might have called them ‘captives’ but they would have been wrong about using that term. His protected rescues. People in stasis, from a variety of worlds or eras as he’d collected them from dying planets or just... because he wanted to make sure some of them survived.

He knew he wasn’t the only one of ‘him’ that did this, they all certainly had the means or the desire to put companions or special subjects into stasis. And those people required monitoring for unusual events, body maintenance, and the like. But now, without those people, or even the desire to stick new ones away for safe keeping, this tall walled, grey-blue Vortal construct had not really seen much use in the last twenty-odd years. The last of its slumbering Human inhabitants had been revived and integrated into the Rookery quite easily, and now it was just him and eight tanks with amber colored liquid doing nothing much.

Keenan had repurposed the area numerous times in the past, of course. Sometimes because he wasn’t ‘human-shaped’, others because the creatures he kept were less than cooperative. Melissa had asserted that it was still good to keep around, just in case she or Rhea or even their kids might need to ponder a difficult medical or scientific task. He’d considered their request to make much larger tanks, fit for dragon sized inhabitants. Purely for scientific research, of course. Keenan was here today to decide whether that was a good idea and go ahead with it, or to remind them that dragons weren’t usually able to offer their permission for such things, and thus would run the risk of being rather irate about it when they were released.

He knew that would happen with people, of any breed, from experience. Melissa knew it because she was there for that rather unfortunate... incident - with his version of Rhea. Since the one working in Rapture right now was local to this dimension, she had never been as irate or. Well. Done what his had on release.

Why did it always come back to those dark thoughts and hard times, in this place? He shook his head to free it of those old memories.

The console blinking, however, was specifically to monitor exterior communications. People wanted to talk to him, and he was hardly at his old Black Mesa office desk.

And then he was, at that desk.

The new window worked very nicely as a ‘monitor’, though he was still not used to turning his back on that wide, dark desk and always expected there to be just a blank wall there. Answering the summons to his com unit, the image shown in the ‘window’ was hardly an electronically generated one. It was a real view, dilated a bit and too large for comfort until he adjusted it with a faint wave of his fingers.

“Ah, Baeris, is... something the matter?” He asked, of the black-haired woman standing in view. It was odd that she was standing, but he didn’t realize that until a moment later.

“Not wrong, no,” she replied, and then tilted her head to indicate someone else join her in front of the ‘camera’ that served as the window’s view port. (All those quotes... well, it was no camera; Baeris had cameras and computers for decades. This was a raven, just standing there staring back at her with big black eyes. She’d stood up to look at it more closely, and then apparently figured out how it was used ‘to contact Keenan’...) Abruptly the view changed with the tilting of the bird’s head.

It was an unexpected presence, at least at the Healing Den: Weyrleader S’xon, of Dragonhope Weyr. One of the few people that Keenan could claim as both a friend and rival, a man who energetically defended Keenan’s entry into the Kshau Protectorate back before they established the Rookery proper, one whose presence on Zekira could be the same man, even Keenan didn’t know... and that would make him millions of years old. Or probably: a dimension hopper moving freely through worlds they both habited.

After a moment of staring at that same raven and obviously wondering how best to address it, S’xon spoke. “We’ve got eggs, we need people to attend them,” the very dark skinned man said, “and I think... maybe you should find me some. Not all,” he glanced at a booklet which obviously held records or some kind of notes regarding these eggs. “We’ll have our own search riders looking on Pern and Alskyr.”

It didn’t take a moment for Keenan to ponder, allowing expressions to cross his long, lined face. He was apt to find students and young heroes among those at Carramba or Paragon, and put them on dragons during trips. He wasn’t completely unaware that this was called ‘search riding’, but he had never really connected himself with that word until this moment. “I could certainly do that,” he said. “How many should I expect to fetch? And... are there ... restrictions?” The way he drew out that last word made everyone, including himself, slightly uncomfortable.

“Well, maybe keep them humanoid? I’d prefer those who could ‘pass’, you know what I mean,” S’xon commented, and then looked at his booklet again. “About sixty, give or take.”

If Keenan had been drinking the coffee that had materialized on his desk, he would probably have choked on it.

“... Sixty?

“Yeah, though we’ll be finding more than that otherwise on our side.” S’xon seemed entirely too casual for such a number to be spoken.

“S’xon you have a hundred and twenty - or more - eggs?” It was absolutely flabbergasting.

The dark man’s brilliant yellow-green eyes glinted, much the same way that Keenan’s would, had he been the one to instigate such a claim. “Oh yeah, plenty more. But look they’re not going to hatch at the same time. This is,” he held up that small book, faintly waving it in front of the raven’s beak and not allowing much time to filter through any of the writing on it, “our cheat sheet.”

Keenan blinked carefully and inclined his head just a little, and Baeris came back into more formal view.

“He has people jump ahead and grab a look at the egg tallies of hatchings in his future,” she supplied, “I mean, it’s a great trick, we did it a couple times at the Den’s larger hatchings.” She furrowed her fine brows, “I would have thought you’d be all about doing that?”

“I can teleport and move through dimensions, my dear, I cannot travel through time to the same dimension without... repercussions.”

“Oh that is such bullshit,” S’xon chuckled. “I mean, you can do it, can’t you?”

“I cannot travel through time,” Keenan said flatly, serious. “I get around that by fiddling with the dimensions I move through. But... There is no denying that the dragons can do it perfectly well.” Since Den had come into his life, Keenan’s abilities to move beyond the current moment without such trickery or side-stepping had grown quite a bit. He wasn’t used to doing it yet, though.

“There you go!” S’xon nodded as though that was all that was needed. “So we will-”

“I will need to be given some very specific wording for this request, Weyrleader,” Keenan warned. “Moving people around into different dimensions for a short jaunt and then home again is one thing, and field trips come with waivers and insurance forms. But... I’m not getting the impression that this is quite like the trips my Carramba classes and I take.”

“Ooh, Carramba,” Baeris said, uncharacteristically chipper, “that’s another one you should look through.” S’xon nodded and wrote something in that booklet. Keenan was not used to being conspired against, though it wasn’t exactly a negative thing just now.

“Be careful what you wish for,” the Convocation entity in human form said, and the pair on his wall-sized viewing window sobered a bit. “And be specific, as I said. Remember that though I’ve severed most of my ties with my ... kin, I do still generally try to set a good example for them. I must be bidden to do this, and agree to it, first. I know you both can figure out legal documents. It doesn’t have to be written, but I do have to hear the words for them to be... binding.”

Baeris looked slightly disappointed.

“Master Healer,” Keenan said softly, “remember that beings of my ... ability level, cannot just be let loose with their own will. It’s... Difficult at best to put aside the bulk of my existence and its requirements. I will not flippantly abuse the power I have,” he paused and gave a very faint smirk, “my Leggy Blonde Conscience sees to that.”

Both of the dragon riders gave abrupt laughs at that, and both knew he meant Melissa. In chats between Baeris and Mel, she’d learned much about their relationship, Mel was chatty. Mel had encouraged Baeris to ‘sample him’, then again Melissa had encouraged Keenan to do that the moment the genetic engineers met. But still, it was odd, from a woman that collected genetic materials without asking rather too much like a certain other person they knew, that she had been the one to encourage Keenan to be human, as much as he was now. All that aside, S’xon tapped his fingers against his big white teeth and grunted something about consulting with a lawyer or two.

Now that they knew the contract needed to be worded a particular way, they settled for calling back later, and presenting the Convocation man with some number of particulars, as well as a suggestion that he bring some of his own to the hatchings. After all, the Rookery was in full swing protecting their planet, quite similarly to how the Weyrs on S’xon’s were required to keep Thread at bay.

***

It seemed, as he read the carefully-worded and equally careful script on this collected request, that a number of agencies would be willing to accept rider-pairs even if they weren’t ‘from’ those locations. Some were on Pern, others not so much. So now he understood why they’d be needing to ‘pass’, for the most part. Though the clutch charts were only the barest of numbers and information about the eggs’ parentage, what was more important to him was the staggering of arrival times needed.

Over the course of ten years, the start of what S’xon called the 11th Pass, their dragons were getting ready to produce... well, fighting forces, ones which might fly and die in combat with the Thread that would be falling.

Some of these receiving the rider-pairs would be fighting, too. But some clearly weren’t needed for that, or were but for varied duties in their homes. A number of them were just starting out, but some, Baeris assured their newer dragonry counterpart, had been around ‘for a long, long time’ and were finally emerging from - well, from whatever interregnum had gone on shortly before Keenan and the Rookery burst back on the scene.

A dragonry with this many queens - and fertile greens - would be bursting at the seams with dragons. So invitations had gone out, far and wide, to collect many dragonets and perhaps supply their own potential candidates. These clutches they were asking him to help fill weren’t the only ones at their Weyr in that time, apparently. But the rest, S’xon assured him, were being handled ‘in house’ and would remain firmly in their own ranks on hatching.

That was fine, because this was a daunting task either way. “It will be a bit different than what I’m personally used to doing,” Keenan commented when he did finally agree and showed up at the Healing Den to formalize the contract for searching. “My students generally were befriending adults, not hatchling dragonets, but I’m sure there will be a few that will benefit from this. Carramba’s dragonry program is in good hands after all.” He gave a knowing and impish grin toward Baeris, who headed up that program along side Hollis of bronze Synesth.

“It’s how we used to do it in the early days of that program,” she confirmed. “Bringing students on a year long jaunt, they usually didn’t spend the full time their dragon grew up at the hatcheries, we didn’t want them to be too much more mature than when they left, bringing them back to school a few months later, or even just over spring or summer break.”

“Why did you stop?” Keenan asked, tucking the information packet back into his suit pocket, and earnestly waiting for her answer. He wasn’t there at the start of that program, and it had hardly been mentioned until after someone threw him in front of Denhadarvahth’s egg.

“Well, first because there were enough on-site dragons having their own clutches, you know how they breed...” She chuckled. “Later though... well, because there weren’t any hatchings to bring them to. But this changes everything, this will be new blood and old all together.”

The three of them stood for a moment, not silent but not really talking, until Keenan met Baeris’ distinct blue eyes, then S’xon’s equally unusual citron-green ones. “Now I just need to find out who among the Rookery is capable of doing all this Searching... I know Den will enjoy some of it, but he isn’t big enough to transport them. He’s barely big enough for me to ride.”

S’xon’s brain spilled out something that Keenan picked up quite easily, that it was still difficult for him to even imagine the interdimensional businessman ‘riding’ anything... S’xon in any location - Zekira, Planet Twenty, Pern, or otherwise - was very well known as being one of the most expert riders of whatever animal seemed fit to ride.

Keenan however only gave a mock glare back at the tall man, and said, “we’ll work that out ourselves, though. I look forward to seeing the results of these clutches.”

“I’m sure they won’t disappoint,” S’xon said with a bold grin.

***

“Well they certainly are candidates,” S’xon said, looking over the groups that had filtered in behind the small black dragon and his tall black-suited rider. They were back in a Vortal Construct, but it was a slightly different one than he’d been in before. There were no walls so much as there was a faint sense of ‘don’t go too far away from this lit place’, to keep anyone who was awake for this from straying. It was otherwise a very large dark-skied spot, the floor was either dirt or packed sand, neither Baeris nor S’xon could tell which. No stars in the sky of course, because above them was not sky, just more of that pervasive darkness that Keenan was so fond of using in his Vortal areas.

And on the ground, scattered around in clumps, not talking to one another because they were all effectively asleep standing up, were the candidates he’d assembled.

Denhadarvahth slipped between and among them like a black veil, occasionally teleporting to another area entirely and seeming to compare and contrast those people he was sniffing. Even S’xon could see the Vortal auras around some of them - otherwise normal Humans with super powers, tall and strange Zekirans over there - several of whom were decidedly not sleeping but pretending to look like they were... Batches of students from Carramba, child-sized elfin folk, and a pile of what looked like sea-worthy adventurers...

More humans than anything else, S’xon was happy to see, though there were some that absolutely did not ‘pass’ and would need to be shuffled around carefully before and after their clutch appearances. It wouldn’t be very hard, he himself could probably handle clouding the other minds around the area for at least a short time.

“I can handle that too, if you need it,” Keenan supplied, shamelessly reading the other’s mind. “I’m... much more practiced at staying out of people’s sight, than you.” S’xon boldly agreed - he was a bronze rider, a Weyrleader, a master politician... He liked the spotlight as much as Keenan avoided being in it.

It seemed that Den had ‘handled’ something else: deciding who would go when. It was when he was joined by a longer, leaner version of himself that the dragon gave a very quiet but highly traditional ‘bugle’ in greeting.

“So they just show up now?” S’xon said, “like that? Just... boom they’re here?” He squinted, “I don’t know who that dragon is, but they seem very ... familiar.”

“Oh that’s Gozu’lath, Den’s offspring. Kendrick must be nearby.” Keenan sighed, “and he will undoubtedly tell me that this Construct is terrible and boring,” the lilt in his voice said he’d done this before, “and then do something fancy to ‘fix’ it.”

The groups of candidates were suddenly in small neighborhood yards. Still asleep or something close to it, now standing almost as though at backyard cookouts. But the entire Construct changed to look much more ... relaxing, inviting, comforting. Well lit. With a blue sky and clouds, even the sounds of birds and dogs now and then.

“And there it is,” Keenan said with a shrug and a smirk. “Thank you,” he called to his son, who was somewhere around the Usagi group, creating a space that looked more like a castle or keep than the 20th Century homes that the others had been given. The nearby ‘yard’ became an elfin-styled forest. Apparently this young rider was extraordinarily apt at Vortal construction.

Even though he was still interested, Keenan pretended he had other things to do - leaving his son, and his dragon’s daughter, to do that work. They would probably be helping move those candidates through time and space as well, later on...

(( OOC ))

Pernese Candidates run the typical ranges of annoying Ladies and Lordlings, to servants and wanderers, wearing the standard available gear, and speaking with the normally expected local world accents. A few of them are obviously related to one another, with parents in the stands for their hatchings. Any Pernese candidates may be searched locally by those at Dragonhope, or by their own Weyr’s search riders, up to you all for who you choose. Interactions between your characters will be entirely up to you all, I’m only including the below information for non-Pernese.

Non-Pernese Candidate Types:

Offworld Search notes - though Keenan is the one who was tapped and primarily does the Searching of off-world candidates, for this venture he has also recruited several of his peers at Carramba, who have connections nearly everywhere. Also of course, his dragon Denhadarvahth is remarkably small and can only really fit one human at a time, so others are dragged in for transportation purposes.

Generally speaking the candidates will be brought to the correct hatching directly from this odd neighborhood staging area, and never see the place again (unless they have access to dimension hopping powers...). Though everyone is gathered at the same time on this end, they spread out over the course of the 10 years of hatchings when they leave, so they may or may not be in the same groups on the sands. When candidates are related or heading ‘home’ to their agency or weyr, however, they will all be returning at the same time together. It’s possible that they and their dragons can be seen slumbering in this Construct around the edges of it if they have to wait the full spread of years for their friends to catch up, because the ‘early year’ bonders don’t seem to have remained on hand the whole time at Dragonhope.

Overall however, candidates should expect to spend around 1 year in training. Any individual candidate - turned rider - will perhaps see a total of 4 hatchings if they remain on 2 full years for complete fighter training. So if they are, they will certainly be able to watch their friends at impression times should they overlap.

Obviously it’s up to you all whether they remain longer at Dragonhope - they will get extensive training if they’re to be fighting, but equally get good ideas of how to use their non-fighting skills with a dragon around. Most of the dragons *cannot GenreHop* but might be able to time-it to other eras on Pern itself, which may mean that those in other Passes or Falls can be guided by their own search riders home. Those going off Pern should likely rely on Keenan or the other helpers he’s brought to each ‘graduation’. Or even just on request; anyone in need of being taken back sooner than Weyrlinghood can make arrangements with S’xon and Kira the Weyrleaders, as they aren’t going to stop anyone as long as their dragon is healthy, but still want to make sure their hatchlings are headed in the right direction on leaving.

Some of the candidates are clearly brought specifically by Keenan, and cling closer to him and Den when they’re brought toward the sands. These include a pair of siblings by the names Khan and Batari, who seem... normalish, burly and strong, a bit on the wild side. Key word is ‘seem’ because at times they grow horns or tails, and Batari has very obvious fangs when she smiles. Another is a kindly looking young man, if anyone has the ability to sense mental energies he is very strong with them. If someone is having a hard time or seems down, he’s the first to comfort them, with strong empathic power to help. Others include a few below too, from Carramba students to someone that could be the same guy in a fancy fantasy noble’s ruffled suit.

Notably, Shard’s seem more common in the lists because all of them are non-Pernese.

Carramba students are searched by Keenan but transported by Nachos California (Keenan’s clone who ... yeah he’s got a dragon so that complicates them being the ‘same’ person now) because Qutobi is fucking massive.

If you want to use the formatting for students that is found on the Carramba ‘game’ site, go for it, but you don’t have to.
Totems are for background not physical but inspiration can certainly be taken from them (for instance that itsy-bitsy spider totem might come in the form of biotics that can act as hands, someone who is just super grabby or speedy, or if non-human might actually have extra arms). Stats are technically 0-10, typical humanoids tap out at 6 but most students have something higher these days. Kudos are to be spent on Clusters (overarching skill sets) at 3:1, Skills (individual) at 2:1, and Knacks (special quirky personal things) at 1:1. Powers for these students can be virtually anything, but I have taken a lot of them from HOL and Teenagers from Outer Space. They are still students, so not all of their abilities might be available at this stage in their lives, and some might get left by the wayside as they mature and no longer need them (like gang, or other such things). The class schedule can be adjusted, and I do have a full course schedule available...

-- Kitsu’s student Haley Evens, human from Mass Effect dimension’s earth. Whether that means they’re a child of regular folks or some higher-up in a military family with access to ships and whatever is up to you. Junior class - they have 1.5 years left of high school, and might want to come back to finish, but all their course credits should transfer into wherever they go.
-- Phe’s student Lady Urmi, is technically from Zekira and as noted I can also create a full character sheet on WoZ for this one. A freshman, they’ve got a couple years to go before they would be considered an adult, and would also be required to pass their Status exams back on Zekira. You can decide whether they’re from the canon WoZ or from the DragonMasters of Zekira alternate universe, though if they go ‘back’ to Zekira it will make more sense to be DMZ.
-- Trix’s student Reles Jelova, a human (or perhaps a near-human of some breed of very similar aliens found in most sci fi) from the Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy dimension, so he comes with an Electronic Thumb for hitch hiking and a Towel and is likely used to traveling around the multiverse. He’s a freshman so he has a few years left of traditional school before he does whatever hitch hikers do. It’s also possible that he has family that now owns a spaceship, given his powers and randomly-generated ‘is rich’ comments.
-- Astra’s student Raafida Dehwar is a human from the Bioshock universe, who has apparently shown up thanks to being rescued by a Rookery rider while on a dimensional jaunt. Since there is a Rapture facility in the Rookery world, they currently have access to plasmids and respawning, and might be a little too used to using that respawn feature. She’s markedly aggressive and if someone sees her using the Plasmids for powers, they will notice that she’s presenting as a male for the duration...
-- Shard’s student Delta is actually a Kthari, with way more limbs than are visible when anyone might be watching them, though they do seem to be a girl one moment and after sundown a guy? They have a class with Keenan so he definitely made note of their potential possibly even before the request to come to Dragonhope. They’re a sophomore, and will be returning to Carramba.
-- Shard’s students Samson and Landon are also Rookery kids, and hold themselves with a strange grace and a lot of arrogance. They are twin sons of Sulfur, one of the Color Guard who are leading the fight against the Combine on the Rookery. They have a lot riding on this hatching...

Semi-Related to Carramba, characters from the HarryPotterverse dimension will be searched by Keenan and transported by the lovely Calmath and Zora Domina of House Domina - a dragon-centric establishment taking cast-offs or those students inappropriate to Hogwarts or other European (or world-wide, really) schools. As a half-Avengaean fire, half Pernese Calmath is unusually bright and feathered, but also shapeshifts so it’s possible to meet her on two feet with brightly orange-red hair, or as a massive towering Fire-and-Feathers Gold queen.

-- Phe’s mage student Stanley Starling is possibly the youngest of the searched candidates at 12 years old and only a 2nd year Hufflepuff. Should he decide to continue his dimension-centric education it would very much need to be at House Domina or at another school that allows for dragons, but he would likely be just as happy virtually anywhere.
-- Luna/Cele’s mage student Elektra Hawks is a Slytherin so there’s that. It’s very likely that she’d need to transfer to House Domina rather than continue studying at Hogwarts, because of this dragon bonding, or just ‘graduate early’ but she is only 15 at the time.
-- Astra’s mage student Sorrel Hawks is a Griffindor and though she’s literally only one hour younger than her twin Elektra she got put in the next year’s Hogwarts invites...
-- Trix’s mage student Gideon Beehive is an unusually strong weather witch as well as having a burlier casting rod rather than a flimsy wand. Since he’s ‘home schooled’ he isn’t constrained by rules about dragons, but that will depend on where he winds up residing as a rider.
-- Starfyre’s mage student Ulysses Hickory has an assortment of ironic and conflicting features; his wand is all about flying and the air, and flight is his worst subject... will that change with a dragon? He’s not going to need much more schooling at age 16 but that’s up to you to decide if he goes back to school or just transitions right into a profession.
-- DragonFlight’s mage student Merrill Fluke is a Durmstrang student in the middle of his schooling, and with his goal of becoming a teacher he might need to finish up that schooling somewhere more unconventional, given a dragon.
-- Shard’s mage student Joy Oleander is young (nearly as young as Stanley) and appears to strain herself trying to return to her Tapir Animagus form, she’ll talk about it til the cows come home which might literally be true because she’s from a ranch in Texas. She will be heading to House Domina.

Further student aged candidates can be found from the Usagi / Gelgelan breed, rabbit-folk who use a tremendous amount of innate magic as well as spells, and are Searched by their very own Queen Sean, transported by their very own King Sapadt on his large copper Birth. Since the royals host dragon riders and do searching on their own, but often send their new candidates off to Carramba, it’s your choice where they were actually ‘found’, either in their native fantasy-type setting, or the school. They are used to a variety of tech-levels, but consistently use magic so that’s important for them to be able to exploit wherever they go after impression. The Usagi use Family-name first, personal name second, when they have more than one word names.

-- Luna/Cele’s Usagi student Pin Zhu seems like a well-rounded sort, comfortable in most settings.
-- Phe’s Usagi Seikamekei comes from the same general area (Borura) as Zhu, though is slightly older than he is and might not have been in the same social circles.
-- Trix’s Usagi student Airasan seems like he will fit in anywhere, obviously liking to travel to find stuff to collect.
-- Starfyre’s Usagi student Lo Kya hails from a larger town than the others, and as an orphan might have had to learn to fend for their family too early. She might benefit from being reunited with her younger sibling, who may have what it takes to also be a rider?
-- DragonFlight’s Usagi student Sen Laki is quite young and doesn’t seem too sure about this whole dragon thing but she is obviously comfortable in a castle or even a Weyr given her upbringing. She is listed as having clones, and that she does: her mother is very likely a professor at Carramba with access to such things. It’s up to you to decide whether those clones are ‘active and available’, or merely as replacement parts, and what their mental / psionic / magical relationship to their Prime actually is. Alternately you can just ditch this and say she’s got a very large bunch of siblings or twins/triplets, after all they do ‘breed like rabbits’.
-- Shard’s Usagi student is pleasantly pretty with beige fur and sooty markings, but he’s a bit stand-offish and complains about the food a bit. He will be heading home to Gelgela directly under Sean’s tutelage for his healing powers.

Zeddian candidates have been Searched by Zhül, a Zeddian who had been a student at Carramba, and whose large white Antaakutsuath will also be transporting them from Zedd to Pern. Be prepared for Antaa to talk your candidate’s lower arms off on her journey! These Zeddians should be considered teens through young adults, and have been collected from rural areas rather than highly populated cities on Zedd, given the world’s hesitation to accept off-worlders or weird stuff like dragons. Notably their second set of arms can be ‘disguised’ with relative ease, but their black and white skin coloration is still quite distinct.

--Kitsu’s Zeddian Zhenz Zhaacabl will likely want to remain in some kind of technical world if possible, given their power over electronics.
-- Luna/Cele’s Zeddian Ksh’aua Kshiaxhhiea might make a tremendously good cook for a Weyr or Caer.
-- Phe’s Zeddian Zyhr Sh’aish is pretty impressive with numerous powers, and might have attachments on Zedd because of that.
-- Starfyre’s Zeddian Zheew enjoys technology but also might be able to fend for herself on a low-tech world thanks to her own powers. She’s more visibly distinct than most others due to her coloration.
-- Astra’s Zeddian Ks’ihmr may attract attention among her Zeddian peers if they’re at the same nest or dorm, because of her own specific marking (singular), any Zeddian with only ‘one’ marking almost immediately becomes revered, but other cultures might not even realize why they act like that
-- Shard’s Zeddian X’op seemed like a human at first glance, but that’s only because she can shapeshift her arms away.

Vault Earth is the Fallout setting, and since the Rookery is breeching into that dimension with support for their own weird needs, some locals scattered around what’s left of the USA in the 2290s have expressed interest in the dragons that are now showing up. Aretha has genrehopped from New Vegas into the superheroic world of Paragon City, where she and Keenan first met. Though she and her Leaf-Night dragon Silence did the Searching, he is not capable of teleportation and as such another rider has been brought in. From among the Color Guard, Sulfur and pale bronze Serianth will be carrying candidates from this world to Pern and will be returning to the Rookery’s world after this duty. (Serianth is happy about this travel opportunity, particularly because his clutch-sibling is one of the queens and resides at Dragonhope and he wants to see them again! Plus... Well, two of Sulfur’s kids are actually being brought along in the Carramba section...) Candidates from this world will be used to hard work and difficult living, and would likely be absolutely overjoyed to relocate anywhere but there.

-- Phe’s Vault dweller Skye Ward is markedly intelligent and adaptable, and would be well suited to a modern-era or technologically advanced home.
-- Trix’s Vault-Earther Aspen Nettle is kinda special, in that they are a Synth who has compelling reason to need to defend herself from the Institute (not the current era, run by the Rookery-related Levi, rather from before he took over - meaning though she looks young she’s probably closer to 60 than 20); she’s made it to the west coast from Boston so that’s already an achievement.
-- Neishai’s Vault earther Logan Bing was personally Searched by Aretha straight off the Strip in New Vegas, and has some odd skills and personality quirks.
-- DragonFlight’s Vault earther Ruben Kent might make a great combat oriented rider wherever they wind up living.
-- Astra’s Vault Earther Gabriel Savoy seems to be one of those ‘mysterious’ types supposedly selling pottery but with way more skill and attitude than that might warrant. They would easily fit in most places, who knows whether they want to?
-- Shard’s Vault earther Ghoul Gadget Overbrook is clearly used to being stared at, and makes the most of it on her journeys across the Commonwealth, and of the bunch she will be returning to that location to run the dragonry settlement’s supply flights.
-- Shard’s Vault earther Dan Torrence knows he’s hot as hell and likes posing for the ladies (or the gents he isn’t picky), and seems like a nice down-home kind of burly animal wrangler. He will he going back to the Wakefield Vault with Gadget.

Zekiran candidates are searched by the very lovely Amaranth Marad, more or less from the AU DragonMasters version of the planet. She and her Night Gold Racynioth will eagerly transport any of the potentials from their world to Pern, and bonus points to anywhere else they’re needed. Racy is quite talented and Amaranth will only ask a little in return... That little being ‘genetic samples’... (note that the Carramba student is also from Zekira but they were searched at the school.)

-- Trix’s Zekiran Worker Dhuua will likely make his old animal master boss very happy if he shows up with a dragon - even if he doesn’t remain on the rugged mountainside fishery that he worked at when Searched. If he chooses to return to Zekira as a dragon master he will not only have a bonus in re-titling to a much higher status than Kaumburuh (worker), he will be given land and possibly even his own staff and servants depending on how well he does against the weird alien invaders there. If he chooses to remain at Lantessama or another dragonry, he’s well suited to hard work and might make a good heavy-lifter for a dragonry.
-- Starfyre’s Zekiran Suzerinne Shii Lach-Nach (sheila? with kangaroo feet?!) is very used to having servants, company, and a lot of busy work to do on Zekira. Notably she is ‘hyperfertile’ which would make her incredibly useful for population improvements, but also is slightly frustrating since everything just looks so darn tasty in that time of her cycle... She does have some very odd powers, strong ones, and she would very much like to keep her status on Zekira - but that doesn’t mean she has to remain on hand all the time, just show up to vote and order people around...
-- Neishai’s Zekiran Master Peridian 6th Degree Nuutta ahlVahh is a descendant of Keenan’s Zekiran alternate Kallah Vahh, and as such has a remarkably strong set of powers. He is also Hyperfertile and so you might want to keep him and Shii apart for the time being... Of all the candidates brought to this hatching he might look the most odd with very long bat-wing like arms, he’s considerably taller and more easily visible than others at the hatchings, so it’s wise to keep him under wraps as much as possible until then. Since he is part of the Vahh family, he has access to dimensional portals, and will certainly be able - and desires - to habit both Zekira and wherever else he might be needed. Even though he’s technically a ‘genetic engineer’ he doesn’t specialize in breeding people, and focuses his efforts on alteration of already existing genes on people needing the Icarus treatments.
-- DragonFlight’s Zekiran Mistress Dota Liuno ahlVahh is another of the Vahh holders, though much younger than the other candidates from his group. ... And is another Hyperfertile what is up with that? Maybe they need more dragon riders, that’s it. She can ‘pass’ as a very pale skinned human, with no mutations visible and mostly internalized powers. She too can claim access to portals to and from Zekira of any version, and will definitely have a home there even if she resides more permanently elsewhere.
-- Astra’s representative from Zekira isn’t actually Zekiran at all, but was born there to the colony of human element Benders off the coast of one of the continents. Her stats reflect a quick witted and smart type, but her powers certainly distinguish her as ‘more than human’. She has family land held on those small islands on Zekira, but she would certainly be of great use in a Weyr or Caer thanks to her ability to heal.
-- Shard’s Zekiran Master Emik ahlVahh is likely directly related to Dota given their physical resemblances, though he’s been through the Icarus processing and his ability to teleport and genrehop allow him to move ‘wherever’ and likely ‘whenever’ he knows about. He has a strange speech impediment but it’s more like Keenan’s in that he ‘knows too many words’ and numerous languages, all of them spill out of him while he’s trying to speak.
-- Shard’s Zekiran Pelatih Falhur seems more or less like a normal person until you notice her furry skin and muzzle, and what looked like green tattoos are actually markings... She is accompanied by a small slinky creature with glow-bobbed fringe fur, who seems to love the attention it gets while perched around her shoulders.

Abodean Elves have been Searched by Ainea, who works at Carramba and is very familiar with cross-dimensional travel among other odd things. Most Elves are somewhat rustic and used to living in nature, so they will likely enjoy any outdoors or low-tech worlds they might reside at. It’s unlikely that they would easily fit in back with their tribes on Abode. Ainea is a very small ‘Ice Glider’, who rarely speaks verbally, so most speaking she does is using telepathic ‘Sending’, and she can do this with anyone, not just other Elves or telepaths! She has two dragons bonded to her, tiny white Flurrier Adisath, and much bigger fur-bearing winter Nivoan. Since the Elves are quite small, between those two dragons, everyone will be flown easily between dimensions.

-- Trix’s Abodean Elf Spell is a wolfrider who actually still has a wolf-friend. However, the wolf bonds are less tight than Impression with a dragon could ever be. Whether that wolf gets along with the new dragon, or any other outcome, is up to you. With a dragon, however, Spell might be best residing somewhere other than with her birth-tribe, and she will definitely be able to hold her own with her plant shaping power wherever she winds up.
-- Starfyre’s Abodean Elf Lriya is Go-Back whose magic power of ‘item finding’ both distinguishes her and makes others in the tribe suspicious of her. She would be best placed in a rustic, cold environment off-world, even if it means leaving her tribe. She’s already left children to them, so her line will continue there regardless in the ice-cold domain.
-- Neishai’s Abodean Elf Laoo is from the Sun Village (completely opposite of that Go-Back’s area!) and as part of a very large family (who has ever heard of three children?!) and has a modest ability with rock and gem shaping. She’s been trained as a brewer, and can definitely add plenty to any dragonry’s table with wine, herbs, and even... poisons... It’s unlikely she will want to return to her life in the desert, but she also is a bit put off at high cold mountains.
-- Astra’s Abodean Elf Pace is a Desert and Plains dwelling nomad with surprisingly strong magical power. Since they are commonly in contact with Humans on their world, she is probably the most well-adjusted among the potential candidates from this world, since Elves and Humans rarely get along there (to the point of near genocide...), so she’s likely to at least try to get the others from Abode to ‘behave’ better around all these Tall Ones. Where she winds up from here is up to you, given her expertise in mapping and such, she might just never stop being a nomad, only on new worlds.
-- Shard’s Abodean Elf Tapestry is a wolfrider from a splinter group that won’t have encountered Spell’s tribe. Given that he never found a wolf-friend among their pack, having a dragon means he no longer feels like an outsider. But now that he has a dragon he is an outsider. He will be returning to the Bald Mountain Holt with Ainea to start his life as a rider and make sure that the place is well-decorated.

Dungeons and Dragons ‘verse... well, a standard fare fantasy setting with magic, religion that works, and monsters. ‘Tame’ dragons are uncommon so having one with a rider seems quite ridiculous around most parts of this realm. The thing about the search and retrieval pair here is that... Though they are technically “Pernese”, at least on their original pages, Bequet is absolutely a Drow elf, and her gold dragoness Felaxnath is of very rare bicolor parents, and loves rubbing that in to any ‘normal’ golds around... She is nowhere near a ‘gold dragon’ might be expected on this rustic fantasy world - since she’s still effectively Pernese, she knows no magic and cannot speak verbally. Bequet is known to hang out with Master Collins the weapon-smith who now instructs at Carramba, and who recommended her to Keenan, probably because otherwise she’d be bored out of her mind wherever it is she calls ‘home’ these days. (That actually includes Zekiran believe it or not. Felax’s abilities to teleport have not gone unnoticed.)

The dark elf rider managed to pick up the entire crew of a pirate ship somewhere off the coast of a large deserted island - one which might make for a great roosting spot if they ever want to return to this world? There are at minimum 10 characters rolled up for this, more if needed.
-- Neishai’s life cleric Supheo was not part of the pirate crew, but she definitely was on their ship... for whatever reason. And likely why she is not going anywhere with those people now.
-- Molly’s Pirate Crew, that is to say Iletot (I’tot) a sorcerer; the triplets Givabril (G’bril), bard, Giacell (G’cell) the monk, and Gemanee the rogue; and Biloma the barbarian are approximately the last of the ‘crew’ of an ill-fated ship. Whether it ran ashore before everyone else died or after, that’s up to you. Also up to you, whether this group were voluntary members of this pirate venture, or conscripted. Their ‘background’ was all rolled as Pirate so they likely perform ship based duties together for a while before this ‘search’ thing that Bequet and a terrifyingly large gold dragoness foist on them. Their classes and levels obviously are up to you to keep or ditch too but I figure a group of ‘adventurers’ (minus the cleric they probably depended upon for aid...) would be having fun wherever they wind up, even if it’s not on ‘their’ new island. Ages should be adjusted if they’re too high, or it’s up to you.
-- Astra’s ranger Toz should probably be slightly younger to fit with the age ranges of typical candidates. With a mad on for those pirates that likely stole the ship that he worked on, it’s a sure bet that he will not be returning anywhere with them.
-- Astra’s fighter Reboccu (also probably wanting an age drop) seems like she was on her way to a tourney, or looking for treasure to gain from ‘whatever it was’ this ship was supposed to be doing. Highly likely to be glad that they crashed. Highly likely to want to pick fights with those pirates, but unless they have lots of money on them (that has remained intact since moving worlds) what’s even the point.
-- Shard’s swashbuckling bard Brax fits the bill of ‘please don’t try to seduce the kraken. It appears he might have actually succeeded at one point, in doing so, he almost always has hickeys of some shape somewhere on him. Wait are those tattoos?
-- Shard’s sorcerer (...?) the tabaxi calling himself Shortcut Along the Ancient Path seems very, very strangely familiar. Probably because when he shapeshifts into a human he looks just like Keenan. Then he seems very, very strangely unfamiliar, if you catch him just in the corner of your eye - since he’s actually a displacer beast shifter. What he was doing on this ship is a mystery. He was definitely there with the others who were on the wreck, but no one seems to remember him all that well. How hard can it be to recall a green colored cat man!?
