Which Pernese Weyrs are still open?

Hiya, all.

Just wondering recently which Pern-based weyrs are still open! I've been going through my old pages and have a few Candidates that I was saving, and I'd love to have somewhere to send them in to.

I'm already aware of Falas and it's affiliated sites, Ryslen (though, is it Pernese anymore?) and Dragonhope, though that's about all I've got. It's hard to tell when looking at some sites whether or not they're still open, since from the past I know a lot of people often gave up their sites and left them with Candidates and info still on the pages. So any sites that are still alive (esp. those accepting Candidates!) would be really appreciated.

Right now I'm on a big Pern kick.

I'm re-reading the books and getting all enthused with Pern once again, so that's mainly what I'm looking for atm. But, certainly, if there are non-Pern places that you'd like some Candidates/Bonders/whateveryoucallums sent to, please let me know!

Who has Cincanta now? I thought they were going to re-reopen again, but... I don't know now.

And there's Whiterock Weyr, run by Kit on it's own forum.

Darkling Dawn's still open. (It's got the Fauna Frenzy still going right now, but the one after that is a typical Pernese clutch.) It's turned into more of a hybridization place, though I still like the more "traditional" types.

Ryslen isn't a cannon Pernese Weyr anymore, but we do (a) accept and understand Pern folk, and (b) have full-blooded Pernese clutches from time to time.

(Right now the clutches on the sands and the Flurry are half-petrified and I really need to finish them... *embarrassed*)

I do have a purebred Pernese clutch coming up, but with a twist. All female candidates, and if people get pushy about it (in character...) the riders and dragons may refuse to let males in to see the hatching.

Falas and the FGPC are getting "reformated" or an update. I think people might like this one because I've decided NOT to wait for certian people for the story line.

I'll post more later but when it reopens I'll have a clutch on the sands (both, maybe), and will be in need of chasers and risers for normal flights as well as a special event coming up. XD

DMW is accepting candidates. I have yours but I need to update that to show it is accepting candidates. XD

If you need fillers, I still have that Pernese template from when I was going to open up a Weyr. >_>" I don't plan on opening it anymore but the fact remains that if you want some greens or blues, just hit me up or something. :3 I was very fond of the template and think it's a shame that it should go into disuse.

Sweet, thank you all for the names!

I've got a good start there and will hopefully be making Candidates for most of them.

I remember Cincanta... lovely dragons, but didn't last very long.

Hope it does re-open, I found the site but it looks like, for now, no-one's home...

Oh, and I never saw the templates you're talking about Dray, but if you're willing I'd totally love to snag a couple!

I'm always happy for more greens and blues! I'm a total dragon hoarder, what can I say.

Hmm… I'm almost a little tempted to re-open (or would that be open… I don't think we ever had an official launch) Aster Weyr. All this sudden interest in Pern. =)

I believe the owner of Seiryuu is the current owner of Cincanta, and I wish I knew which image set she was running. The original dragons (and that awesome ice cream clutch) were gorgeous. Then again, is Quachir still around in general?

I also vaguely remember Caer Catena's owner having something to do with Cincanta as well. Was she one of the old owners?

In general, I know quite a few locales that are Pernese Weyrs or started as Pernese Weyrs whose owners are still active, though I'm not sure of the active/inactive status of the sites. I don't want to risk being rude or presumptuous, so I'll let those owners volunteer their Weyrs if they find the thread…

I'm always happy to hear of new places opening. At the moment, there don't seem to be a whole lot of Pern-traditional places left. I still remember the days of Sapphire Weyr and Talor Cliff, and I miss 'em.

But sadly, I don't think it'll ever be quite the same as it was again. For one, Talor cliff's clutches used to fill up scary fast. Like, first day they'd open you'd have to rush or you might miss your chance to claim a spot! As far as I know, that sort of thing just doesn't happen anywhere anymore, though.

There /is/ going to be a Pern movie though (or, well, it's in progress, but whether it gets cancelled or not remains to be seen...) So, if that comes out, Pern might get a re-awakening of fans. Like LOTR got for their movies.

Which you have to wonder will be good or not.

Unless mccaffrey has nothing whatsoever to do with it, Hollywood won't touch her properties. She made sure of that last time she tried making a movie. And a video game. Apparently the original crappy early version of one video game that might not have even been official, was way better than the 'authentic' one... sad.

Yeah, Tiala owned Caer Catena and Cincanta Weyr. I honestly loved the second run, when it changed hands for the second time...*points to Derroth and Syobeth* I wish I had gotten all of that set, too. And I never got a blue from Tiynarea...

Nor all the Talor Cliff dragons that look like Mixuith and Avsiruth....*sighs*

And sadly, I've been looking at the old, old Falas set (before the one I have) and was going to open a place to give them out, set it apart from Falas all together and run it so old style-traditional that it would make Falas look fancy with there whites and such. LOL. But...I have enough on my plate so I decided to let those images collect dust rather then "fix" them up (fix anatomy and such) and redo them. XD And since I have trouble getting candidates for the three places I have, yeah...i don't know. Finding all these records and visiting old sites make me miss those days. Dawn Sisters (of whom the records are completly missing and I would really love them...), Talor Cliff, and such. I felt lucky to ever get M'len into the clutch I had him in. You pretty much had to have your candidates ready before the clutch was posted. LOL The rest of my riders were from the secret clutch.

Of course, working on Philippe's Search dosn't help. I miss my old Falas...I blame collage. If I had only known I would still be able to update and continute everything, things would have been SOOOOO different. XD

Anyway, have a site to revamp and riders to page and a weyrling image to redo...for both Falas and DMW.

As with Keilin Alyr, you've got me tempted to open up a little Pernese Weyr again... I've been thinking about coming back, and totally restarting without any of my previous candidates/riders/etc... I'm on a bit of a Pernese kick at the moment too.

I'll have a play in a bit and see if I've sucessfully learnt how to draw a dragon yet... that has, always held me back in the past. If I did get around to a Weyr though, I'd probably aim to have small clutches (5-10 eggs), and hatch them when I got candidates for about half of them (the rest could join my Weyrs wings), probably focusing on the five 'canon' colours - with perhaps, 2-3 rares popping up once in a while (black & cream, or something).

Heh, well, Tiiyn, if anything, I still have my old set and I would allow you to tweak anything you want on them. *shrugs* I was going to give them to Chemmis Weyr (or whatever it was) but she never actually started it.

Well, the brave souls at Copperheart Entertainment are apparently trying... (the same guys who made Ginger Snaps). Of course, I haven't heard anything about it for a while, so it might be dead. That's what this article seems to think anyway:

As a side note, that picture of Mcaffrey in the article is scary as crap. She looks like a monster!!

Not that I disagree with your take on it at all.

I hadn't heard anything regarding problems with the games and such, but it sounds interesting! Not to mention my own beefs with McCaffrey. Did you all hear about her "changing" the dragon sizes? Apparently, when it was published in the Dragonlover's Guide to Pern as meters, with pictures and everything, many years later McCaffrey is now saying she meant feet, not meters. And I can guess she's doing it because she wanted a movie and most people would probably find it absurd to look at jet-plane sized dragons with teeny tiny riders on them in a movie. This change was right around when she changed her rules for using her material, making it more movie-friendly, so go figure.

You probably all knew that, but I'm just ranting.

I was going to say the same thing Yakima did Tiiyn, but she beat me to it.

Her old set is gorgeous, but I also understand the personal value of having your own set of images, so either way.

Speaking of Yakima's images, have you had a chance to get that white-black and granite dragon I've been missing?

I'm working on Candidates slowly (I got a little sidetracked by Dragonflight's Halloween thing, writing up some people for it! Halloween's my favorite holiday and it seemed too cool to pass up). At very least you can always count on me for stats-page Candidates, even if I don't have time for stories! I feel so lame sending those in, but I type 18 WPM and even a few-page story usually takes me a couple days to finish. It stinks.

My thoughts are, that if you're not happy with your old images, make new ones, but then like, do a giveaway for wing-padding of the old ones since some folks might want "sets"

... I really should actually hatch the You Walk Into A Weyr at Dragonhope huh?

Yes... yes you should... since if sounds like my Weyr is going ahead (Either with my own images, or talking nicely to Yakima or Erinnyes), I shall consider my starting over effective from today... and that makes any impressions from now 1... well, awesome... and 2. allowed to appear in the new Weyr. =)... (Well, Alexandria might not get to... but the nice sensible browns/blues/greens will). PLUS... I've never had a dragon using those images... lets change that, yus?
