Mythology Giveaway - pending - Ha-inu/Ameratsu

Well, I've been sitting on an image for about a week, but I've been out of town since Sunday and thus without a scanner. Aaannddd.. it's looking like I'll be out of town for a while more yet, because I'm heading out east today for a surprise party for my grandmother. Blargle. But I do have an image! That I can't scan for another couple of days. Sorry -.-;;

Alright, these are from Japanese myth. There are two different stories about who Ha-inu was. In one myth, Ha-inu was a dog owned by the samurai Toyotomi Hideyoshi. One night, robbers broke in the house, but Ha-inu faced the robbers down and chased them off. Later on, when his dog died, Toyotomi Hideyoshi created a memorial in the form of a stone statue of a dog with great wings. The Japanese say that, if you're ever waylaid by robbers or bandits, all you need to do is call on Ha-inu and he'll appear and bark three times. On the third bark, a great wind will be summoned and knock the bandits down so that you have time to escape.

The second myth says that Ha-inu was a wild dog who terrorized humans and livestock alike, and when Toyotomi Hideyoshi went to conquer the island the dog stood in his way. He defeated it, but was taken with the creature's pluck and courage, and so created a monument in the dog's honor.

In the process of drawing Ha-inu, though, I ended up mixing in some traits from the Okami version of Ameratsu. And the image is going to be a more stylized version of my normal art style, as I'm going for a more Japanese feel to the image.

Well, plans ended up changing slightly (we were originally going to head a couple hours west, stay the night at Aunt Sue's house tonight, then drive the rest of the way on Monday), so tomorrow is going to be like.. a 10 hour car ride for me. This will be exciting. But in any case! What that means is that late tomorrow night I will be able to scan the image and show y'all.

*rubs hands together* I think you'll end up liking this image. I really, really wish I could show the rough image off right now.

-Gust of Wind -- the ability to summon a strong gust of wind by barking three times
-Swift flight
-Long life -- as children of a spirit and the Mother Goddess, the Aiji Kamui live unchanging for an unknown length of time, violent death is the only known way to kill one

Some have: (each Aiji Kamui has 5 "picks" that can be made - unless otherwise noted, each power costs 1 pick, and yes, these are pulled from Okami):
-Rejuvination -- the ability to restore broken or missing things
-Power Slash (1, 2, 3) -- the ability to cut through objects (Power Slash 1 costs 1 pick and is the basic ability listed here, Power Slash 2 costs 2 picks and is the basic ability plus the ability to cut through tougher items such as iron, Power Slash 3 costs 3 picks and is capable of cutting through anything)
-Sunrise -- the ability to make the sun rise at any time of day or night
-Bloom -- the ability to make flowers or trees bloom, also
-Water Lily -- the ability to create water lilies large enough to support people over water
-Cherry Bomb -- the ability to create cherry bombs (up to three at a time)
-Vine -- the ability to create a vine that will lift a person up and carry them across gaps or through the air
-Waterspout -- the ability to move water from place to place, or even create a gyser capable of lifting a person into the air
-Fountain -- the ability to travel betwen sacred springs at will
-Deluge -- the ability to call rain from the sky
-Crescent -- the ability to turn day into night
-Galestorm -- the ability to change the direction of wind at will
-Whirlwind -- the ability to summon up a whirlwind

^_^ Making yours was an interesting process, because it was the first of the pearls, so I needed to rearrange some things to make it look right. In the process, I ended up with this, and decided to save it for the lulz becasue I liked the look.

I called it the black opal coloration. =P It's shiny.
