Horsey!

Post by Xalia »

Drew this today and was proud of it so I thought I'd share... :) 'Tis a drawing of my young horse from a picture taken at our last show, back in June. :)

And look, I made it into an icon! :D

Pretteh!! I like how they both turned out, color matches it nicely. Maybe a tad more shading under the jaw, where the neck is, but hey - if it's based off a photo obviously you know what it looks like best. :)

Very pretty! I think it turned out lovely :D

It probably helps that I'm a sucker for that color XD

Thanks!

Yah, the lighting on the photo was really odd as we were riding in a covered arena. Some of the pictures I have are so dark you can't tell she's a chestnut! XD But this one was pretty light, just kinda weird shadow and highlight placement. I /think/ she was playing with her lip in the pic too, but I had to adjust that in the sketch because I couldn't /quite/ make it out and it looked stupid when I tried to draw what I think she was doing... XD And actually, with the angle the pic is at you can't see her jaw at all. The dark line in that general area is actually the throatlatch of the bridle. :)

That's beautiful. =3 I love the detail, and the coloring turned out pretty well. Got to love that curly mane. <3

Heh, it's not curly, it's in little knotted braids that I was too lazy to try to draw in detail (not to mention the pic doesn't show much detail, as it's only a little larger than my icon... XD ) and her forelock is french-braided and then tied up into one of the little knots...but the knot turned sideways so you couldn't tell it was actually knotted... XD

Ahh, cool! I find photos are the most difficult to draw from because the features get so locked into place -- it's hard to give really referenced images a life of their own, but this is pretty solid, Xalia! XD Even if she isn't playing with her lips, this looks good! :3

Well, it helps that I see the horse in person almost every day... XD The picture gave me the pose and the shading and helped me remember exactly where her blaze is, otherwise I tried to draw her personality a bit, and remember what she felt like at the show...alert and tense...hopefully it came through a little bit...

Heh, usually when I'm drawing horses I draw the shape of the face first and then the ears and start working the eye in with all the other face details...for her I started with the eyes...

And I'm going to stop babbling about my horsey drawing now...glad everyone's liking it though! :D
