Working on a new style

Post by Cy »

This will, eventually, be part of the layout of my personal site.

But it shows off a new style I'm experimenting with, and I wanted to get some opinions on it.

It's, obviously, very different from my previous style.

Is that acrylics? Wow - the colors are really good, the style is fun. Exaggerated enough but the shading and fleshtones are clearly realistic. It does kinda look like those eggs are coming out of the top of her head though.... :)

No, I don't have a scanner at the moment, so I had to take a picture of the line-art-y stuff and I'm using it as a guide in photoshop :]

The eggs on her head were meant to be turned into a rat [my pet, Chatterbox] and she's holding Lydia [the dog] and Puppy [the snake]

It's one of my "me" characters :]

The colouring looks really nice, Cy! Keep in mind proportions and hand-shapes and such, though, since if they look wonky it can take away from the effect... if you have a digital camera, you can take a picture of yourself or get a friend to pose for you so that you can see how the hands and arms look in real life, and then go from there! Nice job on the face and hair, though! ^_^ It's coming along really well!

That's actually what I did to get that pose, actually :] Her fingers are meant to be curled more under, so I think I need to fix the shading on that, because her hand is supposed to be about where her shoulder is [so as to keep the snake and dog apart]

But shading is not my thing XD which makes this new style veryyy challenging, but I'm enjoying it.

Any suggestions on where to place the shading Dray to make the hand look more curved inward?

XD The only thing I can suggest is to get the lighting the way you want it and take another reference photo, then copy from that... if you want more specific help, you'll have to harass someone like JKat! She's the colouring master, not me! *ducks*

It's ok Dray :] I'll try another picture.

I can't do her hair XD Her hair is meant to be, as you can tell, pouffed up and big. But it keeps looking like a Christmas tree on her head :[ Blahhh.
