Personal alternative to stories-- y/n?

Post by DNS »

I was talking to nicole, and she gave me the best idea. Like f'serious.

Writing for me is painful. I don't think in words, so shoving the raw thought i've got into words in an attempt to make a cohernat story is a painful experience, and i hate it. I resent writing as an action, and half thetime i end up crying and screaming to tio in frustration, becuase i just can't get it down. and even if i have a good idea, when i get down to write it dissapears. the details. kinda like when you sit down to draw an animal and you suddenly forget a feature, and thus can't draw it realisitcally. like ears on mongooses or stripes on tigers.. which i do sometimes, but that might just be me.

anyway, so writing is painful, which i usually don't complain about on here-- but nicole just gave me the awesomest idea.

Why don't i draw comics? :3 some maybe with more writing, some with less-- not particularly detailed, but if they were they;d turn all mucky. likely quick, 2-3 page affairs, just long enough to get the idea across without being tedious.

So, all you story writing agencies-- could that potentially count as a story, or are you a nay on that vote?

I would definitely accept it. :D Actually, I would be thrilled about the uniqueness of it if someone sent me one.

So, I get the first offical vote of 'Yes'. ;)

True, myrror, which is why i posted this on it-- i dunno if it will take. ;-; My justification is that people want stories becuas eit shows off a character and because it shows effort-- but i spend hours on /stats/ to show off the character, and they're wordless anyway. >.> besides, comics take as much, if not more, effort than stories do. :3 so maybe that will win out-- i dunno.

but yay nicole and DF! -clings- thankyou. :3 you guys may see stories from me, then!

I know exactly how that feels. I'm forever telling Cacopheny I wish I had a braincamera to capture my mindmovies, because I totally think in imagery. Unfortunately, I totally lack the patience to do comics. XD I think I'd accept them, though.

Actually, I have recently been wondering why nobody has tried this yet. :)

:3 apparently, a portion of the nexus had their minds in the same vein. Great minds think alike! <3
Will you take it at ryslen, then? <3

and squee, another of like mind! -hugs phe- it's so frustrating, isn't it? -el sigh- but i think i can manage-- ah well, you can turn down the comic submissions any time, if you'd rather.

and then i got distracted by something and lost my train of thoughts. :D drakdrawings!

Yeah I think this is a great idea! :) Storytelling is hard, sometimes frustrating, but hey - it's in your head, and it's gonna come out somehow. :)

Sure, why not? If you can get the point across in pictures and some text (rather than all text) then it will still work, right?

(I do, however, reserve the right to stop accepting comic-candidates if I deem it necessary.)

well, yeha, and so does everyone. >.> I was a bit worried about making this public, becuase i dunno.. i don't want people to jump on it and send so many in that it ruins the game for some of us, but then again, comics take awhile.

ah well, what happens happens. :3

I can't believe i'm actually excited, becuase these will probably take twice or thrice the work as text-stories, but iunno. I guess it's better to spend energy on something you enjoy rather than something rahter than something tedious.

I've actually considered doing that before, but the main thing that kept me back was that I can't draw people. Which I'd almost certainly have to. Or backgrounds. But yeah...
I'll accept them at any of my agencies. And hey, I like your stat sheets. ^^
Darkling Dawn: Fauna Frenzy Open to candidates; flights open to males/females; rukel eggs/breedings available.
Drockh-Tallahn Castle: 3 eggs, 2 available. Females and males needed.
Sgiath Wolfkeep: 7 pups available
Sedona Weyr: 12 eggs, Deadline March 8. Chasers and a female needed.

I think it sounds really neat, and I would definitely accept them at any of my agencies. Just as long as people don't start *requiring* comics instead of stories. Writing for me is as natural as breathing, but I have a huge problem drawing (1) humanoids, (2) different poses for humanoids, and (3) *especially* facial expressions/emotions for humanoids. It just does not happen for me. So I think I would end up being the one crying in frustration if it became a requirement.

XD I remember trying to do that when I first joined... though I passed the idea by Kim/Shiolar at the time and she/he smacked me down for it, so I figured that they weren't welcome in the Nexus.

Anyways, I'd support that. X3 I mean, accept! Sounds like fun!

He was always more of a tranditionalist-- that's another reason he gave for leaving, actually. not enough stories, and he was pissed because people were giving him awesome dragons for stories he didn't spend much time on. ._. of that were me, i wouldn't complain, but anyway.
hee, offtopic.

XP I'm actgually surprised that these were so well recieved. :3

I tried doing a short little comic thing last night, and it's do-able, it'll just take practice. :3 and I may still do stories for some agencies, becuase these ARE taking a lot longer than writing ever did. The only difference is that writing leaves me a frustrated wreck, and drawing is more enjoyable.

XP I really doubt that comics will become a requirement, astra. First becuase they are frustrating sometimes, and harder to draw-- facial expressions, posing. for some reason, drawing it all is so much harder in comics. But yeah. Actually, I'm truely hoping the idea doesn't get picked up by that many people, because it's not my intention to change the way things are done in nexus, and i don't want people to get sick of them and outlaw them becuase they want things to go back the way they were. Though actually, i think most of the people who would've done that have left by now.

whee, i'm getting off track. :3 back to sketching draks/comicing!

I'm actually thrilled so many people have said they'd accept stuff like that. I've been looking for more excuses to draw my characters....it's hard to make me do that. ^^;

Just an update on this-- I tried it, and comic writing is harder than i thought it would be. Or rather, it took longer, and i dunno if the result is worth it. >.> 5 hours, and 3-4 of that was just the drawing, and working on it directly-- the other hour was like, thinking and such. It's not as frustrating, but it takes longer, which means i can't get as much done.

But i'm still gonna do it. :3 which means some of my submissions [probably most] will be stories, and the rest will be comic-types. and stats if people allow that. It'll mostly depend on what materials i have when i get an idea for a candidate. [computer = story, pencil and paper = comic] :D

oh well. what happens happens. :3 i guess i opened the idea to the public officially and got opinions on it and everything. ^^

I prefer stories - I type faster then I draw and once I get on a role I usually have to force myself to stop.

Considering that I'm on an unoffical/unannounced hatius I'm not going to say whether or not I'll accept them but I will probably still prefer stories because text loads faster then images...

I think DNS means more to ask if other agencies are willing to accept her comics, since that's an easier medium for -her-, rather than if comic-drawing is easier for other agency-owners. :3

I'll accept them. I was considering the idea as well, but I dislike drawing comics cause I'm no good with action poses or backgrounds. >.> I'm trying to get into it now with CoX, but so far... not so good.

Yeah, I understand that Dray. I was just stating what was easier for me just because. I also said I probably wouldn't accept them because I would rather read a story then read a comic. Writting gives me a better idea of the candidate and a comic wouldn't. It's the same differance as reading a book or watching a movie of the book - or vise versa. You get more detail in the book then the movie.

I probably won't accept them, DNS, for the above reasons. Nothing against you but that is just my opinon. That, and everytime I go to read an 'american' comic, I sometimes start at the wrong end....grr...stupid manga!

Actually, ironically enough, i can portray a character a lot better in pictures than words. XP That's how bad i am at writing.

That said, it's cool, yakima-- i've got plenty of other agencies that i can send comics to and have htem be accepted, so there's no real issue.
