Actually no, because they are all born male :) They'll just be making little inbred creatures - but then with *one parent* I suppose that's irrelevant! :D

I can just imagine that, several generations down the line; when the genepool shrinks and dries up, they'll be walking into walls and eating their own tails.

I think they've been doing this for a long, long time anyway - fish do it, I think some amphibs do it too, lots of lizards really. They're more simple than mammals, I guess, it's easier to get away with it.

The first generation's all inbred technically - but it usually takes a lot more than that to do any damage. And I'd imagine that this would be how a lot of the variety of species on islands (which they mention) would have come about. If they don't make it, meh, but if they do - hey maybe those tails taste pretty good, eh?? :)

My ... cat seems to like bringing us lizard tails in the summer, so.... lol!
