Tutorials and whatnot

Post by Mystic Dragon »

Hey Sah? Could you link this from the Nexus page? I figure a tutorial on art theft, what is and isn't acceptable, would be a good thing for our new users to browse over.

Also, if anyone else has any helpful tutorials (hint: Dray! PS editing tutorial!) then maybe we can link those too. Personally I find any sort of tutorial very handy.

Sooooo... change of plans. The tutorial is no longer at the above link because DA took it down. Why? Not because it was infringing on anyone's rights. No, the artist had been very meticulate about making sure that everything was either free to use or had permission. They removed it because (and get this)...

They didn't agree with her opinion.

That's right. DA has openly stated now that they do not agree with people who disapprove of art theft. It wasn't a rant against thieves either. It was a helpful tutorial to let people know /why/ artists get upset about certain forms of copying and whatnot. So trace away if you want to belong to DA! But don't you dare come up with anything original!

I believe I'll be taking down my DA stuff after this. Assuming that's possible.

I've contacted the artist and she says she'll be putting it up somewhere else and get back to me with a new link. I'll post that here as soon as I have it.

You can take your stuff down, but you have to, like, send a letter to DA or something if you want them to never use your stuff in, like, promotionals and the like. Once it's uploaded, you have to go through this whole set of hoops to make it entirely yours again v.v

Yeah, I've not been uploading there for over a year now >.>

That said. DA sucks XP Since when is expressing an opinion different than DA's opinion in a piece of artwork (or a tutorial, for that matter!) grounds for having your piece taken down? Censorship anyone?

There are times when I begin to think that maybe I should go re-sign with them and upload works...

And then something like this happens. XD Further grounds to stay the heck away from online galleries, no matter what comment-whorage might otherwise ensue!

I upload there solely because VCL's a porn site, FA's not much better, and SA just sucks. Side7's a kid's haven, and epilogue.net are just too leet. ^^' No one really watches my stuff much.

Oh yeah, and they told me that art theft is in their terms of service and they're nor responsible for the guy in FRANCE who stole a picture of mine. {nodnod} He still has it up on his own gallery and keeps claiming it's his, etc etc, even when me and other people have responded in french and english to take it down.

Ah well. *hugs*

You need to contact their *host* not the guy. The host will have to remove it. But figuring that out, I don't know how to do that.
