Regalis Lullabis Haven: what do you think?

Post by Guest »

Hello! First of all, I'm new to the Nexus, though I'm not necessarily a new face to some of you. -Waves to those familiar.- If you don't recognize the name Azrani, you may know me as Dragonflychaser.

Anyway, though I'm no newbie to the online community of adoptables, some of the processes at the Nexus are new to me, so bear with me if I'm a bit... confused with some things.

The reason why I'm posting this in the Ideas forum, though, is because I have something that I'm considering bringing to the Nexus forums. It isn't a dragonery, so I'm not quite how sure everyone will react. However, I do know most of you welcome other species as well, so I'm not too worried. ^^

I've my own original world named Alyrr (honestly, any similarity between the names Alyrr and Alskyr are purely coincidence. I actually chose the name Alyrr a year or so before Alskyr's public opening.) Like many of you, I've used my creative forces to design numerous species that inhabit this world. I've adopted out the Tyviron raptors (http://alyrr.bedazzledfixations.com/tyviron/) at Silvanon's Orchard Messageboard, and now most recently I've started offering a new species: the Regalis Lullabis.

More info can be found at the site: http://www.bedazzledfixations.com/regalis/, but some of that is subject to change as I'm still... developing the species. I plan to write a novel, maybe series, with these guys as well, so as I figure out plotlines and such, I'll have to make modifications.

Okay, it seems to me like I'm babbling a lot, so I'll get to the point: would there be any interest for the Regali here? I'm not sure how often I could draw individual Regali, since a new college year is about to start, so I'm also debating on creating a few templates to use.

Comments, suggestions, etc are welcome.

Examples (all have names and Bondmates):

Oh, those're lovely ^^ What do you use? They look like they're watercolored, or markered, or something. Beautiful detail, and pretty darn good anatomy, to boot XD

We're not really all that exclusively about dragons, you know. To tell you the truth, a lot of what exists out there most people would hesitate to even call dragons XD But equine-ish critters = love, too o.o :: has a thing for hooves XD ::

First: WELCOME! I saw your ID down there and as always checked it out - and thank goodness you're not another salesbot! :D *hug* we love not-sales-bots. :D

Second: um, YEAH! :D

What we've more gone to is a series of giveaways and contests, though a lot of us still run adoption agencies. We don't 'charge' for our creations at the Nexus, though honestly if you'd like to work in trade for other critters I'm sure everyone would be more than happy to do so. :) We don't use a nexus currency, since a lot of us came straight from Pernese 'earn it with a page story' style adoptions.

I remember your name, I think, from WAYYYY back. :) Welcome to the nexus!

*I now go back to drooling over your creations*.

((And - you might want to think about what restrictions on us breeding the crap out of these guys you need. Because I guarantee the moment we've paged em, someone will want to send them out for a breeding elsewhere to be hybridized. If you don't want that to happen, I highly recommend *saying so right off*. :) ))

*boggles* @.@ Love. Want.

Seriously, they're absolutely -GORGEOUS-. When will you be opening for applications, and where do I sign? X3 I do love markered critters, if they're well done, and I haven't seen such awesome marker-coloring in such large ammounts since... well.. DS. ^.^;; But.. hnnnnn.. Want. *more clingage*

Thanks guys! hehe, nope, I won't preach to you about Cialis and whatnot.

I appreciate the comment abotu anatomy, too. Hopefully it will continue to improve and become more believable.

-Nods.- In my lurking and page surfing, I did see a lot of hybrids and such, but not many equine-based critters. But these guys have scales and dew claws, so what's not to love? XD

I've been using the old-school "create, apply, and hope" method, but character compatibility also plays a large role in how these will be distributed. Some of the Regali have pre-determined personalities, so sometimes even a great page with character developement won't Bond because the personalities just don't match that well.

Edit: Oh, yes, forgot to mention I used Prismacolor markers <3

I'd love to see what you'd do with a set of Copics... :) And these might make nice companions to some of the Kirin and Deer dragons we've got :D

Shard: I've never used Copics before, are they better than prismas?

Uny & Cacopheny: I'm not quite sure when I'll have some available Regali, but I'll be sure to advertise here. I don't know if I should focus on drawing up more outlines, or work on a few templates first. Using templates would possibily mean more Regali more often. However, it'd be harder to maintain the uniqueness of each Regalis. I suppose I could do both: offer colored templates and then individually drawn ones when I have the time.

But then that makes me wonder... should I color printed templates with the markers, or color them in photoshop? Agh, so many decisions. x_o

Oooo, I think these are very pretty! I was admiring them on PI for a while, but I have very bad luck most of the time, getting on and having the money when things I like are available!

I'd definitely be interested in seeing them here :)

Well, I suppose that depends on how long coloring each way takes you, really XD Whether you use markers or photoshop. Some people whip up a marker coloring in half an hour and take six on a photoshoped image, while other people are the other way around.

And then some people never know how much time they spend on images in photoshop, and can't color worth a darn, so photoshop nearly exclusively. ;D

Thse guys are awesome. I just... have no other worsd to say than that at this moment. *dork*

My recommendation is to create a couple templates that we can all vye for :) Myrror does those, coloring them and offering them for us like a feeding frenzy (witness her thread in the Giveaways section!) frankly we'd likely be happy with *anything you give out*. :)

Copics are remarkable - I can't use em myself because I really don't hand-color with anything nowadays anyway. But I know a lot of folks on Deviantart who've gotten ahold of them and really never go back. They're the ones that most Japanese artists use, and they've recently come across the ocean via some of the manga publishers. They had a huge booth at the comic con this year. They blend beautifully, that's their key thing. There's a blending tool for them I guess, but they are like using watercolors with a brush, in ways. You're already remarkably talented with regular markers, they're kind of like the next step up. :)

Thestral are equinesh~ and i was designing something that looked vagually equine the other day~ ^^ besides, if youlump them together with dragons, they can breed with anything and make wierd looking babies!

They look absoluteloy lovely. XP sorry for a non-in depth comment. you'll get one when i have more time, so i don't just skim your info. ;-; everything looks great so far, i'll jump on the once they're available. XP

I'll have to see if I can get my hands on any Copics, then! ^^

I'll probably do a combination of modifiable templates and individually drawn Regali. I'm sure you guys won't mind if some are colored with markers while others are computer colored? At least until I find out what works best for me.

Oh, and those Tyvirons will be adopted out again as well. ^^ They don't bond, but tamed ones can make nice companions. ^^

-grabs at them- they're all pretty.

Drawijng each individually would be hard on you, wouldn't it? -hugs- but it does look nice. you could use one template for each.. and i know a way you can change the colour with photoshop. Colourise or hue/saturation modification. it DOES have it's limits, but if you want to change osmething hand coloured, it's the best way i can think of to go~~

If you ever need random photoshop tips, i'll offer them, btw. XP i dunno that much myself, but what i do know i'm always willing to share. ^^

Welcome!

My personal opinion is... I want... that. Just like you have, with each template, set of details (jewelry, horn shape, etc.), and colors completely individual. I would wait for that. And frankly, it would give me more time to write a better candidate for that. ;)

Shard - so that's what Copics are like. I like markers (but have always been disappointed with the range of colors without burning a hole in your pocket), and I like watercolors. Both together would be a dream.

Sorry, I digress... However, I adore this marker coloring style. The techniques you use are fascinating. :3 *mind wanders off*

So here are the templates I'm thinking I may use. I'll still offer individually drawn and colored Regali with unique accessories, but with these templates I'll at least be able to have some available when I'm pressed for time.

I didn't draw the horn and scales, so I can still customize those for more structural variety.

I think I'll marker in the shadows, and then make use of the Multiply and layers feature for color and highlights. Essentially, they'll be computer colored, but this way they should still have that marker "feel" to them.

Whatcha guys think?

That's a great idea, shading them in marker. I like it. :) The templates are gorgeous, I love them. ^^

LOVE. They're just gorgeous!

You know, I know Sue Dawe - the Mead Portfolio queen of the 80s - and this style of creature reminds me a little of her work. You might consider (aside from web creations really) getting in touch with landscapes and skyscapes, etc, and sticking these guys on them, see if you can't revive the fantasy portfolio business. :) They're really pretty.

hey, actually, I had a bunch that were *blank*, uncolored images and were intended to be colored by the kid buying em. You've got gorgeous lines like these, it'd be stupid of a company to pass them up for that kind of thing too.

Shard: You know Sue Dawe? Wow! I remember always oogling over her stuff as a child, and I've got several of her posters. Now that I think about it, she really did help fuel my passion for the fantasy world.

I'm entering my second year (well, technically first as last year was all foundation classes of doom) as an illustration major, and ultimately my dream job would be to have a WETA-type job. For those of you unfamiliar, WETA Workshop is the company that did all the animals/armor/weapons design for Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia. I'd love to do something with concept fantasy/animal art.

I certainly wouldn't mind having artwork everywhere like Sue Dawe, though.[/i]

Yeah actually she lives here in san diego, shopped at my store when it was still open. Her hubby is awesome too, he teaches literature - *Tolkien* - at the university :)

She hosts (infrequently) the "Mos Eisley Cantina Star Wars Party" which is an in-costume, in-character space themed partay... I had such fun at them, I think she's coming up on the 20year anniversary of the first she held and that'll be a blast. :) She's done me a picture (which ... I really need to locate, and scan/photograph) and I'm going to be asking her for some help on costuming this year for halloween :) She's like THE biggest star wars fan, she actually won a contest they had at these weird little "record your Star Wars memory" kiosk thing a couple years ago. :)

Actually, I'm using both she and her husband as teachers in my fictional high school -

http://www.geocities.com/carramba_high/car-inst6a.htm (mike's at the bottom)

WETA = coolness. It couldn't hurt to start getting your images out there as recognizable things! :D
