Craptastic Router...

Well, my router is at it again. I don't know how loud I have complained about it around here before, but sometimes it likes to pretend there isn't a problem when there IS. All the lights go "green! yay!" and all the computers go "pbbt! boo!" -.-; So, until further notice, I am at the mercy of whomever happens to have wireless in the neighborhood. ^^;;;

I'm lazy, or I'd go to a cute lil cafe and peruse of their hotspot and a tasty mocha. During hours. But it's after midnight, when I like to be online, and meh.

So anyway, my point is, until my router decides to behave (for now) and/or I figure out what the heck is going on... I will be doing less Net-ing and more... PAGING! =D

That or parental units will take the opportunity to make me earn my free rent. o: Aw... crap.

lol - I just tried installing a wireless router... No luck, but I am gonna try again since I have a new laptop to use.

;>> Well.... looks like all I had to do was unplug the modem and router. Hard reboot. BAH. *kicks at it* But at least it wasn't something big, like fried equipment from a power surge. We lost another modem that way.

Thanks for the well wishes though. Maybe that's what it needed?

Sara, good luck with your wireless. It confuses the hell out of me, but let me know what you're hung up on and maybe I can help. I have a newbie wireless book that I could look up your questions, or maybe I've run into what you have. ^.^

Basically my DSL connection won't be found by the router. When I plug the cords back in the way they were before the router, the computer finds the connection perfectly. The wireless program just isn't able to use the modem or network to connect. I'm not sure why, perhaps it's not looking in the right place, or perhaps the network hasn't acknowledged that there's a router there.

Since it's not really connected *directly to the computer* it makes the computer confused I think. Normally if you plug a different thing in it'll detect (but this is not usb plug and play). I'd call either SBC or the Router's company for help but I don't actually have a phone IN my room right now. I suppose I could try using it, but the cord's chewed through by the cats, and it's a shitty phone...

Ah well. If you've got advice I'd love to hear it! I wanna play coh in the living room... heh.

Hrm... That's a toughy... since we have the router and modem connected to a desktop physically, and the laptops just kind of surfing along... :/

Try, if you haven't already, turning off the modem and router, then set them up together. Then, plugged in together, turn on the modem first. Wait like... a minute, minute and a half, until power, DSL, and Internet lights come on (I believe those are the ones). It will be two or three lights that come on. Then turn on the router. It MIGHT work then. That was what happened with mine, and that's what the guys on the phone are going to tell you to do first anyway. XD

If that doesn't work, you might try re-installing it. At least then you can tell them you did everything... >>

I'd hate for you to have to call them though. I hate phones... ><
