Like, I'm here but my site isn't. Does that count?
Server 13 of Invisionfree, which has been hosting my forums up until now, has been down for the last three days. Apparently their datacentre guys are 'working on it'. After two days they figured out that it was a hardware problem.
I'm not particularly hopeful of having it back before Christmas.
I have backups of about three-quarters of my stuff, but there's a few things I didn't have chance to copy to my computer, ones that were scheduled for tomorrow's backup session (I do all my backups at the same time, on a Saturday). And these's eight or ten dragons I never got a chance to upload at all. I have the images, but nowhere to host them. The really, really hard thing to lose is my Flurry Candidate...
Invisionfree have said that they should have server 13 back up soon, and that the chances of data loss are minimal, and even if it is lost, they have their own backups. I tried to get them to tell me how old those backups are, but nobody over there seems to know.
The long term solution is shifting everything onto my own web-server and actually using a proper website; I don't need to worry about my router blocking the FTP when I can transmit everything right over the LAN. But currently my connection can't handle the bandwidth strain you guys put on it, not in combination with the other things the server needs to do for the network here. I can only host images if I put them online and link to them when nobody else is using the server for its other purposes...
So I'm looking into running a second server and either upgrading my Broadband to something with a higher upload speed and overall bandwidth, or else a second line entirely. Then I can run everything from a computer across the room from me.
Until then, I'm just gonna go stalk the Invisionfree forums a bit more and hope I can get my boards back soon. If I owe dragons or updates, please forgive me. It's beyond my control.
Sorta back...

Like, my forums on Invisionfree aren't back yet, but I have a replacement site on my own server. It's image light, to limit the bandwidth, so it should be okay. Just gonna have it up for testing for a while.

Now, none of my characters and dragons are up on it, but at least there's something there...

That's good enough for me
It's a shame that the service isn't as consistant as it was a couple months ago! Weird.

Well, it's still consistent on all the other servers. The issue is that they were using a different datacentre to host the server to the one they used for the others... Just trying to find other companies they can work with I guess, because they don't physically house the servers themselves.
Only this new datacentre had a problem with the server. It took a day for them to even get around to looking at it to see what the problem was, and another day for them to narrow it down to hardware. They have determined that the data on the server is fine.
And from what I've read, all Invisionfree want to get back is the data. They even announced that they don't intend to use that datacentre again, because it's taken so long to get the server fixed and the datacentre won't even talk to them to give them updates of how it's going.
I think once they get the server running again and moved to a new datacentre, it should be okay. None of the other servers have ever had this cataclysmic a crash, so it's really a one off thing... The problem is the customer service Invisionfree are getting from the datacentre holding the S13 server. After this it'll probably run as perfectly as the other servers have for the past three years I've been using them...
More than anything, it opens a good opportunity to just shift Mirus over onto my server and get it working from there. It's giving me lots of time to write the World Info and the Race Info, at least.
I'm quite pleased with how the site turned out, too... it looks much nicer than I thought it would, especially since I made it more image light than I would have liked to.
