Ellipsis

Name: Technically ". [rest] . [rest] .", but this roughly translates to "Ellipsis"
Origin: Deep Sea Dragon Giveaway, June 2009
Gender: Male
Species: Deep Sea Wyrm (or GlowWyrm)
Colour: Transparent Black-Red
Size: Tiny or Large (see abilities)
Abilities: Bioluminescence. This dragon has parts that glow, and it can control these parts to create a pattern and a language.
Size Shifting. This dragon can shift between two sizes: one is whale-sized, the other is shrimp-sized (there are no in-between sizes.)
Telepathy. This dragon can communicate mind-to-mind for up to several hundred miles, and with the accuracy to pinpoint a single mind. However, its thoughts are alien enough that this communication is usually a ghost of an idea surrounded with bioluminescent "translations" to its native language.
Personality: Ellipsis is a mysterious but congenial figure who stays deep in the lake neighbouring Nidus Lacus for the most part, except to come ashore for a little while on the full moon. In the years that Ellipsis has lived in the lake, he's become known as a trickster, but harmless, and something of a sage or a spy. He can listen in to any conversation for hundreds of miles, and to those few who have learned to translate his light pattern speech, he is an excellent informant.

Ellipsis has an especial interest in berries grown far inland, and has made fast friends with a few dragons willing to cultivate trade of delicious treats for puzzles, speech games, and occasional important information.

Ellipsis is unperturbed by most things, dipping into the vast lake when things get heated and staying down there for days and weeks at a time.

Repetition

Name: Technically "Beat [rest] BeatBeat [rest, repeat x3]" but she is happy to go with "Repetition"
Origin: LochNexian Giveaway, April 2022
Gender: Female
Species: LochNex
Colour: Muted Grey
Size: Long (~30' at present, but will continue growing over time)
Abilities: High Intelligence. This dragon has a higher average intelligence than most, and this is a species-wide trait. Primarily used for spacial and mathematical (especially song-based) precision.
Extra Large Lung Capacity. This dragon can stay beneath water for hours at a time, but notably breathes air.
Musical Vocalizations. This dragon communicates by song, and is able to communicate complex thoughts through varied tempo, pitch, and repetition.
Perfect Pitch. This dragon can emulate pitch exactly. In this case, tonality is used to express mathematical formulas and proofs, but Repetition finds most use for it by emulating children's songs back to them, and occasionally scaring teenagers by echoing their shore-side conversations back from the darkness of the lake.
Excellent Aim. This dragon can spit a gout of water from a far distance with great accuracy. This... is also often used to startle dragons lounging on shore from the middle of the lake.
Personality: Repetition found her way into Ellipsis' care at a very early age, and the two have been inseperable since. Unlike Ellipsis, who tends to be calm, patient, and pragmatic, Repetition can grow easily bored and so has begun developing bad habits to get attention.

She is a genius; in fact, she's probably the Nidus' strongest tactician. Living in the lake gives her a spacial awareness that even flying dragons don't possess: she is not bound by gravity in the same way that most of the Nidus residents are. When she hears a problem (and she likes to eavesdrop) she will consider solutions to those problems to herself in a considered, iterative way. To most, though, this sounds like the LochNexian singing another tune.

Nobody has yet quite grasped her genius. Ellipsis understands enough to occasionally broadcast ideas to those in need when the problem is dire... but his methods of communication are far less precise. For this reason, both Ellipsis and Repetition tend to stay to the waters, even though Repetition could technically come on land should she wish.

In her more bored moments, she likes to study the two-legged folk who live among the dragons of the Nidus. They seem tiny and fragile, much like Ellipsis when he is shrunk down to shrimp-sized in order to catch a ride on her head when she raises her long neck out of the water! Repetition has begun to take on a sense of pride and protection of these slightly dumber, very adorable 'humans'. Their children especially give her a kind of cute rage that is hard to beat. She's taken to humming tunes to those she can see on the shore, and those who are brave enough to stick around when she appears to them, she hums special naming tunes. From them, she has picked up quite a few lullabies (each of which is adorable, in her mind.) To dragons on the shore... she is less equinaminous. There are a few stuffy ones that she likes to play tricks on. Whether startling them by night, or pranking them with a well-aimed spitball, she's identified one or two that have targeted her as a nemesis.

Repetition is blithely ignorant of how far this one-upsmanship could go, enjoying instead the little spikes of excitement when she can taunt a dragon into coming out over the waves to try to play whack-a-mole with her head. This isn't her relationship with all the Nidus' dragons, thankfully, and there are a few (mostly those who knew Ellipsis prior to Repetition's arrival) who she has made peace with.
